Colossians2

1For I want you to know 2:1 Phil. 1:30how great a 2:1 [See ch. 1:29above]struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face,
2that 2:2 ch. 4:8; Eph. 6:22their hearts may be encouraged, being 2:2 [ch. 3:14] knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of 2:2 See ch. 1:27God’s mystery, which is Christ,
32:3 Isa. 11:2; 45:3; 1 Cor. 1:24, 30; 2:6, 7; [Luke 11:49; Eph. 1:8]in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4I say this in order 2:4 Rom. 16:18; [Eph. 5:6; 2 Pet. 2:3]that no one may delude you with plausible arguments.
5For 2:5 1 Cor. 5:3though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your 2:5 1 Cor. 14:40good order and 2:5 1 Pet. 5:9the firmness of your faith in Christ.
Alive in Christ
62:6 ch. 1:10; 1 Thess. 4:1Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,
72:7 Eph. 3:17rooted and 2:7 Acts 20:32; Eph. 2:20; See 1 Cor. 3:9built up in him and 2:7 Heb. 13:9established in the faith, just 2:7 Eph. 4:21as you were taught, abounding 2:7 ch. 4:2; Eph. 5:20in thanksgiving.
8See to it that no one takes you captive by 2:8 [1 Tim. 6:20] philosophy and 2:8 Eph. 5:6empty deceit, according to 2:8 See Matt. 15:2human tradition, according to the 2:8 ver. 20elemental spirits2:8 Or elementary principles; also verse 20 of the world, and not according to Christ.
9For 2:9 ch. 1:19; John 1:14in him the whole fullness of deity dwells 2:9 [ver. 17]bodily,
10and 2:10 Eph. 3:19you have been filled in him, who is 2:10 See Eph. 1:21, 22the head of all rule and authority.
11In him also 2:11 [Eph. 2:11]; See Rom. 2:29you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by 2:11 ver. 15; ch. 3:9putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,
122:12 Rom. 6:4having been buried with him in baptism, in which 2:12 ch. 3:1; [Rom. 6:5] you were also raised with him through faith in 2:12 [1 Cor. 6:14]; See Acts 2:24; Eph. 1:19the powerful working of God, 2:12 [1 Cor. 6:14]; See Acts 2:24; Eph. 1:19who raised him from the dead.
132:13 See Eph. 2:1And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God 2:13 See Eph. 2:5made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,
14by 2:14 See Acts 3:19canceling 2:14 See Rom. 7:4the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
152:15 [See ver. 11above] He disarmed the rulers and authorities2:15 Probably demonic rulers and authorities and 2:15 [Gen. 3:15; Ps. 68:18; Isa. 53:12; Matt. 12:29; Luke 10:18; John 12:31; 16:11; Eph. 4:8; Heb. 2:14] put them to open shame, by 2:15 Eph. 2:16triumphing over them in him.2:15 Or in it (that is, the cross)
Let No One Disqualify You
16Therefore let no one 2:16 Rom. 14:3, 10, 13pass judgment on you 2:16 Rom. 14:17; Heb. 9:10; See Lev. 11:2in questions of food and drink, or with regard to 2:16 Lev. 23:2; Rom. 14:5a festival or 2:16 [Mark 2:28]; See Num. 28:11a new moon or a Sabbath.
172:17 Heb. 8:5; 10:1These are a shadow of the things to come, but 2:17 [ver. 2]the substance belongs to Christ.
18Let no one 2:18 1 Cor. 9:24disqualify you, 2:18 ver. 23insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, 2:18 [Ezek. 13:7; 1 Tim. 1:7] going on in detail about visions,2:18 Or about the things he has seen2:18 [Eph. 4:17] puffed up without reason by 2:18 [Rom. 8:7]his sensuous mind,
19and 2:19 See Eph. 4:15, 16not 2:19 Rev. 2:13; 3:11holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.
20If with Christ 2:20 See Rom. 6:2you died to the 2:20 ver. 8elemental spirits of the world, 2:20 [Gal. 4:9]why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations—
212:21 ver. 16; 1 Tim. 4:3“Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch”
22(2:22 1 Cor. 6:13referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to 2:22 Isa. 29:13; Matt. 15:9; [Titus 1:14]human precepts and teachings?
23These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in 2:23 ver. 18promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are 2:23 [1 Tim. 4:8]of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.
