John 18:9 - This happened so that the words Jesus had spoken would come true. He had said, “I have not lost anyone God has given me.” ( John 6:39 )
John 18:10 - Simon Peter had a sword and pulled it out. He struck the high priest’s slave and cut off his right ear. The slave’s name was Malchus.
John 18:11 - Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shouldn’t I drink the cup of suffering the Father has given me?”
Psalm 22:1 - My God, my God, why have you deserted me? Why do you seem so far away when I need you to save me? Why do you seem so far away that you can’t hear my groans?
Psalm 22:2 - My God, I cry out in the daytime. But you don’t answer. I cry out at night. But you don’t let me sleep.
Hebrews 5:7 - Jesus prayed while he lived on earth. He made his appeal with sincere cries and tears. He prayed to the God who could save him from death. God answered Jesus because he truly honored God.
Psalm 69:13 - But Lord, I pray to you. May this be the time you help me. God, answer me because you love me so much. Save me, as you always do.
Psalm 69:14 - Save me from the trouble I’m in. It’s like slippery mud, so don’t let me sink in it. Save me from those who hate me. Save me from the deep water I’m in.
Psalm 69:15 - Don’t let the floods cover me. Don’t let the deep water swallow me up. Don’t let the grave close its mouth over me.
Luke 22:39 - Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives. His disciples followed him.
Luke 22:40 - When they reached the place, Jesus spoke. “Pray that you won’t fall into sin when you are tempted,” he said to them.
Luke 22:41 - Then he went a short distance away from them. There he got down on his knees and prayed.
Luke 22:42 - He said, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup of suffering away from me. But do what you want, not what I want.”
Luke 22:43 - An angel from heaven appeared to Jesus and gave him strength.
Luke 22:44 - Because he was very sad and troubled, he prayed even harder. His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
Luke 22:45 - After that, he got up from prayer and went back to the disciples. He found them sleeping. They were worn out because they were very sad.
Luke 22:46 - “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up! Pray that you won’t fall into sin when you are tempted.”
Matthew 26:42 - Jesus went away a second time. He prayed, “My Father, is it possible for this cup to be taken away? But if I must drink it, may what you want be done.”
Matthew 26:39 - He went a little farther. Then he fell with his face to the ground. He prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, take this cup of suffering away from me. But let what you want be done, not what I want.”
