  • Leviticus 23:3 - “ ‘There are six days when you can work. But the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest. You must rest on it. Come together on that sacred day. You must not do any work on it. No matter where you live, it is a Sabbath day to honor the Lord.
  • Ezra 3:1 - The Israelites had made their homes in their towns. In the seventh month all of them gathered together in Jerusalem.
  • 1 Corinthians 11:31 - We should think more carefully about what we are doing. Then we would not be found guilty for this.
  • Daniel 10:3 - I didn’t eat any rich food. No meat or wine touched my lips. I didn’t use any lotions at all until the three weeks were over.
  • 1 Kings 8:2 - All the Israelites came together to where King Solomon was. It was at the time of the Feast of Booths. The feast was held in the month of Ethanim. That’s the seventh month.
  • 2 Corinthians 7:10 - Godly sadness causes us to turn away from our sins and be saved. And we are certainly not sorry about that! But worldly sadness brings death.
  • 2 Corinthians 7:11 - Look at what that godly sadness has produced in you. You are working hard to clear yourselves. You are angry and alarmed. You are longing to see me. You are concerned. You are ready to make sure that the right thing is done. In every way you have proved that you are not guilty in that matter.
  • Psalm 69:10 - When I weep and go without eating, they laugh at me.
  • Isaiah 58:13 - “Do not work on the Sabbath day. Do not do just anything you want to on my holy day. Make the Sabbath a day you can enjoy. Honor the Lord’s holy day. Do not work on it. Do not do just anything you want to. Do not talk about things that are worthless.
  • Exodus 30:10 - Once a year Aaron must put the blood of a sin offering on the horns of the altar. He must do this to make the altar pure. He must do this on the day Israel’s sin is paid for. Do this for all time to come. The altar is a very holy place to me.”
  • Hebrews 4:10 - God rested from his work. Those who enjoy God’s rest also rest from their works.
  • Exodus 12:16 - On the first and seventh days, come together for a sacred assembly. Do not work at all on these days. The only thing you are allowed to do is prepare food for everyone to eat.
  • Isaiah 58:5 - Do you think that is the way I want you to fast? Is it only a time for people to make themselves suffer? Is it only for people to bow their heads like tall grass bent by the wind? Is it only for people to lie down in ashes and clothes of mourning? Is that what you call a fast? Do you think I can accept that?
  • Leviticus 23:7 - On the first day you must come together for a special service. Do not do any regular work on that day.
  • Leviticus 23:8 - On each of the seven days bring a food offering to the Lord. On the seventh day come together for a special service. Do not do any regular work on that day.’ ”
  • Leviticus 23:21 - On that same day tell the people that they must come together for a special worship service. They must not do any regular work. That is a law that will last for all time to come. It applies no matter where you live.
  • Leviticus 23:27 - “The tenth day of the seventh month is the day when sin is paid for. Come together for a special service. Do not eat any food. Bring a food offering to the Lord.
  • Leviticus 23:28 - Do not do any work on that day. It is the day when sin is paid for. On that day your sin will be paid for in my sight. I am the Lord your God.
  • Leviticus 23:29 - Suppose you do eat food on that day. Then you will be separated from your people.
  • Leviticus 23:30 - I will destroy anyone among your people who does any work on that day.
  • Leviticus 23:31 - You must not do any work at all. This is a law that will last for all time to come. It applies no matter where you live.
  • Leviticus 23:32 - That day is a day of sabbath rest for you. You must rest on it. You must not eat anything on that day. You must follow the rules of the sabbath rest. Follow them from the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening.”
  • Daniel 10:12 - He continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. You decided to get more understanding. You made yourself humble as you worshiped your God. Since the first day you did those things, your words were heard. I have come to give you an answer.
  • Psalm 35:13 - But when they were sick, I put on the clothing of sadness. I made myself humble by going without food. My prayers for them weren’t always answered.
  • Leviticus 23:36 - On each of the seven days bring a food offering to the Lord. On the eighth day come together for a special service. Bring a food offering to the Lord. That special service is the closing service. Do not do any regular work on that day.
  • Exodus 20:10 - But the seventh day is a sabbath to honor the Lord your God. Do not do any work on that day. The same command applies to your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and your animals. It also applies to any outsiders who live in your towns.
  • Isaiah 58:3 - ‘We have gone without food,’ they say. ‘Why haven’t you noticed it? We have made ourselves suffer. Why haven’t you paid any attention to us?’ “On the day when you fast, you do as you please. You take advantage of all your workers.
  • Numbers 29:7 - “ ‘On the tenth day of the seventh month, come together for a special service. You must not eat anything on that day. You must not do any work on it.
