Matthew 27:64 - So give the order to make the tomb secure until the third day. If you don’t, his disciples might come and steal the body. Then they will tell the people that Jesus has been raised from the dead. This last lie will be worse than the first.”
2 Chronicles 25:15 - The Lord was very angry with Amaziah. He sent a prophet to him. The prophet said, “Why do you ask the gods of those people for advice? They couldn’t even save their own people from your power!”
2 Chronicles 25:16 - While the prophet was still speaking, the king spoke to him. He said, “Did I ask you for advice? Stop! If you don’t, you will be struck down.” So the prophet stopped. But then he said, “I know that God has decided to destroy you. That’s because you have worshiped other gods. You haven’t listened to my advice.”
Amos 2:12 - “But you made the Nazirites drink wine. You commanded the prophets not to prophesy.
Romans 15:18 - I will speak about what Christ has done through me. I won’t try to speak about anything else. He has been leading the Gentiles to obey God. He has been doing this by what I have said and done.
Romans 15:19 - He has given me power to do signs and wonders. I can do these things by the power of the Spirit of God. From Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum I have finished preaching. In those places, I preached the good news about Christ.
Romans 15:20 - I have always wanted to preach the good news where Christ was not known. I don’t want to build on what someone else has started.
Romans 15:21 - It is written, “Those who were not told about him will understand. Those who have not heard will know what it all means.” ( Isaiah 52:15 )
Romans 15:22 - That’s why I have often been kept from coming to you.
Amos 7:12 - Then Amaziah said to Amos, “Get out of Israel, you prophet! Go back to the land of Judah. Earn your living there. Do your prophesying there.
Amos 7:13 - Don’t prophesy here at Bethel anymore. This is where the king worships. The main temple in the kingdom is located here.”
Amos 7:14 - Amos answered Amaziah, “I was not a prophet. I wasn’t even the son of a prophet. I was a shepherd. I also took care of sycamore-fig trees.
Amos 7:15 - But the Lord took me away from taking care of the flock. He said to me, ‘Go. Prophesy to my people Israel.’
Amos 7:16 - Now then, listen to the Lord’s message. You say, “ ‘Don’t prophesy against Israel. Stop preaching against the people of Isaac.’
Amos 7:17 - “But the Lord says, “ ‘Your wife will become a prostitute in the city of Bethel. Your sons and daughters will be killed by swords. Your land will be measured and divided up. And you yourself will die in another country. The people of Israel will surely be taken away as prisoners. They will be carried off from their own land.’ ”
Psalm 2:1 - Why do the nations plan evil together? Why do they make useless plans?
Psalm 2:2 - The kings of the earth rise up against the Lord. The rulers of the earth join together against his anointed king.
Psalm 2:3 - “Let us break free from their chains,” they say. “Let us throw off their ropes.”
Psalm 2:4 - The God who sits on his throne in heaven laughs. The Lord makes fun of those rulers and their plans.
Jeremiah 20:1 - Pashhur the priest was the official in charge of the Lord’s temple. He was the son of Immer. Pashhur heard Jeremiah prophesying that Jerusalem would be destroyed.
Jeremiah 20:2 - So he had Jeremiah the prophet beaten. Then Pashhur put him in prison at the Upper Gate of Benjamin at the Lord’s temple.
Jeremiah 20:3 - The next day Pashhur set him free. Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord’s name for you isn’t Pashhur. The Lord’s name for you is Terror on Every Side.
Acts 4:29 - Now, Lord, consider the bad things they say they are going to do. Help us to be very bold when we speak your word.
Acts 4:30 - Stretch out your hand to heal. Do signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 1:8 - The Lord’s message rang out from you. That was true not only in Macedonia and Achaia. Your faith in God has also become known everywhere. So we don’t have to say anything about it.
Jeremiah 29:25 - “The Lord who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says, ‘You sent letters in your own name to all the people in Jerusalem. You also sent them to Zephaniah the priest. He is the son of Maaseiah. And you sent them to all the other priests. You said to Zephaniah,
Jeremiah 29:26 - “The Lord has appointed you priest in place of Jehoiada. He has put you in charge of the Lord’s house. You are supposed to arrest any crazy person who claims to be a prophet. You should put him in prison. You should put iron bands around his neck.
Jeremiah 29:27 - So why haven’t you punished Jeremiah from Anathoth? He claims to be a prophet among you.
Jeremiah 29:28 - He has sent a message to us in Babylon. It says, ‘You will be there a long time. So build houses and make your homes there. Plant gardens and eat what they produce.’ ” ’ ”
Jeremiah 29:29 - But Zephaniah the priest read the letter to me.
Jeremiah 29:30 - Then a message from the Lord came to me. The Lord said,
Jeremiah 29:31 - “Send a message to all the people who were taken away. Tell them, ‘The Lord speaks about Shemaiah, the Nehelamite. He says, “Shemaiah has prophesied to you. But I did not send him. He has made you trust in lies.
Jeremiah 29:32 - So I say, ‘I will certainly punish Shemaiah, the Nehelamite. I will also punish his children after him. He will not have any children left among these people. I will do good things for my people. But he will not see them,’ ” ’ ” announces the Lord. “ ‘ “ ‘That’s because he has taught people to turn against me.’ ” ’ ”
Acts 5:39 - But if their plans come from God, you won’t be able to stop these men. You will only find yourselves fighting against God.”
Acts 5:40 - His speech won the leaders over. They called the apostles in and had them whipped. The leaders ordered them not to speak in Jesus’ name. Then they let the apostles go.
Romans 10:16 - But not all the people of Israel accepted the good news. Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” ( Isaiah 53:1 )
Romans 10:17 - So faith comes from hearing the message. And the message that is heard is the message about Christ.
Romans 10:18 - But I ask, “Didn’t the people of Israel hear?” Of course they did. It is written, “Their voice has gone out into the whole earth. Their words have gone out from one end of the world to the other.” ( Psalm 19:4 )
Isaiah 30:8 - The Lord said to me, “Go now. Write on a tablet for the people of Judah what I am about to say. Also write it on a scroll. In days to come it will be a witness that lasts forever.
Isaiah 30:9 - That’s because these people of Judah refuse to obey me. They are children who tell lies. They will not listen to what I want to teach them.
Isaiah 30:10 - They say to the seers, ‘Don’t see any more visions!’ They say to the prophets, ‘Don’t give us any more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things. Prophesy things we want to hear even if they aren’t true.
Isaiah 30:11 - Get out of our way! Get off our path! Keep the Holy One of Israel away from us!’ ”
Daniel 2:34 - While you were watching, a rock was cut out. But human hands didn’t do it. It struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay. It smashed them.
Daniel 2:35 - Then the iron and clay were broken to pieces. So were the bronze, silver and gold. All of them were broken to pieces. They became like straw on a threshing floor at harvest time. The wind blew them away without leaving a trace. But the rock that struck the statue became a huge mountain. It filled the whole earth.
Acts 5:24 - When the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard this report, they were bewildered. They wondered what would happen next.
Acts 5:28 - “We gave you clear orders not to teach in Jesus’ name,” he said. “But you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching. You want to make us guilty of this man’s death.”
