  • Leviticus 27:30 - “ ‘A tenth of everything the land produces belongs to the Lord. That includes grain from the soil and fruit from the trees. It is holy. It is set apart for him.
  • Leviticus 27:31 - Suppose someone wants to buy back some of their tenth. Then they must add a fifth of the cost to it.
  • Leviticus 27:32 - Every tenth part of herds and flocks will be holy. They will be set apart for the Lord. That includes every tenth animal that its shepherd marks with his wooden staff.
  • Leviticus 27:33 - No one may pick out the good animals from the bad. They must not choose one animal instead of another. But if anyone does, both animals become holy. They can’t be bought back.’ ”
  • Leviticus 27:34 - The Lord gave Moses all these commands on Mount Sinai for the Israelites.
  • Proverbs 20:25 - A person is trapped if they make a hasty promise to God and only later thinks about what they said.
  • Amos 7:15 - But the Lord took me away from taking care of the flock. He said to me, ‘Go. Prophesy to my people Israel.’
  • Amos 7:16 - Now then, listen to the Lord’s message. You say, “ ‘Don’t prophesy against Israel. Stop preaching against the people of Isaac.’
  • Amos 7:17 - “But the Lord says, “ ‘Your wife will become a prostitute in the city of Bethel. Your sons and daughters will be killed by swords. Your land will be measured and divided up. And you yourself will die in another country. The people of Israel will surely be taken away as prisoners. They will be carried off from their own land.’ ”
  • Matthew 23:16 - “How terrible for you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone makes a promise in the name of the temple, it means nothing. But anyone who makes a promise in the name of the gold of the temple must keep that promise.’
  • Matthew 23:17 - You are blind and foolish! Which is more important? Is it the gold? Or is it the temple that makes the gold holy?
  • Matthew 23:18 - You also say, ‘If anyone makes a promise in the name of the altar, it means nothing. But anyone who makes a promise in the name of the gift on the altar must keep that promise.’
  • Mark 7:10 - Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother.’ ( Exodus 20:12 ; Deuteronomy 5:16 ) He also said, ‘Anyone who asks for bad things to happen to their father or mother must be put to death.’ ( Exodus 21:17 ; Leviticus 20:9 )
  • Mark 7:11 - But you allow people to say that what might have been used to help their parents is Corban. Corban means A Gift Set Apart for God.
  • Mark 7:12 - So you no longer let them do anything for their parents.
  • Mark 7:13 - You make the word of God useless by putting your own teachings in its place. And you do many things like this.”
  • Acts 5:29 - Peter and the other apostles replied, “We must obey God instead of people!
  • Acts 4:19 - But Peter and John replied, “Which is right from God’s point of view? Should we listen to you? Or should we listen to God? You be the judges!
