  • Psalms 74:19 - Don’t let these wild beasts destroy your turtledoves. Don’t forget your suffering people forever.
  • Psalms 74:20 - Remember your covenant promises, for the land is full of darkness and violence!
  • Psalms 74:21 - Don’t let the downtrodden be humiliated again. Instead, let the poor and needy praise your name.
  • Ezekiel 9:7 - “Defile the Temple!” the Lord commanded. “Fill its courtyards with corpses. Go!” So they went and began killing throughout the city.
  • Daniel 9:26 - “After this period of sixty-two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end.
  • Daniel 9:27 - The ruler will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven, but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all his terrible deeds, he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration, until the fate decreed for this defiler is finally poured out on him.”
  • Lamentations 5:1 - Lord, remember what has happened to us. See how we have been disgraced!
  • Ezekiel 24:21 - and I was told to give this message to the people of Israel. This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will defile my Temple, the source of your security and pride, the place your heart delights in. Your sons and daughters whom you left behind in Judah will be slaughtered by the sword.
  • Ezekiel 7:18 - They will dress themselves in burlap; horror and shame will cover them. They will shave their heads in sorrow and remorse.
  • Jeremiah 14:3 - The nobles send servants to get water, but all the wells are dry. The servants return with empty pitchers, confused and desperate, covering their heads in grief.
  • Jeremiah 52:13 - He burned down the Temple of the Lord, the royal palace, and all the houses of Jerusalem. He destroyed all the important buildings in the city.
  • Psalms 123:3 - Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy, for we have had our fill of contempt.
  • Psalms 123:4 - We have had more than our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant.
  • Daniel 11:31 - “His army will take over the Temple fortress, pollute the sanctuary, put a stop to the daily sacrifices, and set up the sacrilegious object that causes desecration.
  • Revelation 11:1 - Then I was given a measuring stick, and I was told, “Go and measure the Temple of God and the altar, and count the number of worshipers.
  • Revelation 11:2 - But do not measure the outer courtyard, for it has been turned over to the nations. They will trample the holy city for 42 months.
  • Ezekiel 7:21 - I will give it as plunder to foreigners, to the most wicked of nations, and they will defile it.

  • Psalms 79:1 - O God, pagan nations have conquered your land, your special possession. They have defiled your holy Temple and made Jerusalem a heap of ruins.
  • Psalms 79:12 - O Lord, pay back our neighbors seven times for the scorn they have hurled at you.
  • Psalms 137:1 - Beside the rivers of Babylon, we sat and wept as we thought of Jerusalem.
  • Psalms 137:2 - We put away our harps, hanging them on the branches of poplar trees.
  • Psalms 137:3 - For our captors demanded a song from us. Our tormentors insisted on a joyful hymn: “Sing us one of those songs of Jerusalem!”
  • Psalms 109:29 - May my accusers be clothed with disgrace; may their humiliation cover them like a cloak.
  • Psalms 71:13 - Bring disgrace and destruction on my accusers. Humiliate and shame those who want to harm me.
  • Jeremiah 31:19 - I turned away from God, but then I was sorry. I kicked myself for my stupidity! I was thoroughly ashamed of all I did in my younger days.’
  • Micah 7:10 - Then my enemies will see that the Lord is on my side. They will be ashamed that they taunted me, saying, “So where is the Lord— that God of yours?” With my own eyes I will see their downfall; they will be trampled like mud in the streets.
  • Jeremiah 3:22 - “My wayward children,” says the Lord, “come back to me, and I will heal your wayward hearts.” “Yes, we’re coming,” the people reply, “for you are the Lord our God.
  • Jeremiah 3:23 - Our worship of idols on the hills and our religious orgies on the mountains are a delusion. Only in the Lord our God will Israel ever find salvation.
  • Jeremiah 3:24 - From childhood we have watched as everything our ancestors worked for— their flocks and herds, their sons and daughters— was squandered on a delusion.
  • Jeremiah 3:25 - Let us now lie down in shame and cover ourselves with dishonor, for we and our ancestors have sinned against the Lord our God. From our childhood to this day we have never obeyed him.”
  • Daniel 8:11 - It even challenged the Commander of heaven’s army by canceling the daily sacrifices offered to him and by destroying his Temple.
  • Daniel 8:12 - The army of heaven was restrained from responding to this rebellion. So the daily sacrifice was halted, and truth was overthrown. The horn succeeded in everything it did.
  • Daniel 8:13 - Then I heard two holy ones talking to each other. One of them asked, “How long will the events of this vision last? How long will the rebellion that causes desecration stop the daily sacrifices? How long will the Temple and heaven’s army be trampled on?”
  • Daniel 8:14 - The other replied, “It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the Temple will be made right again.”
  • Psalms 79:4 - We are mocked by our neighbors, an object of scorn and derision to those around us.
  • Psalms 74:3 - Walk through the awful ruins of the city; see how the enemy has destroyed your sanctuary.
  • Psalms 74:4 - There your enemies shouted their victorious battle cries; there they set up their battle standards.
  • Psalms 74:5 - They swung their axes like woodcutters in a forest.
  • Psalms 74:6 - With axes and picks, they smashed the carved paneling.
  • Psalms 74:7 - They burned your sanctuary to the ground. They defiled the place that bears your name.
  • Psalms 44:13 - You let our neighbors mock us. We are an object of scorn and derision to those around us.
  • Psalms 44:14 - You have made us the butt of their jokes; they shake their heads at us in scorn.
  • Psalms 44:15 - We can’t escape the constant humiliation; shame is written across our faces.
  • Psalms 44:16 - All we hear are the taunts of our mockers. All we see are our vengeful enemies.
  • Lamentations 1:10 - The enemy has plundered her completely, taking every precious thing she owns. She has seen foreigners violate her sacred Temple, the place the Lord had forbidden them to enter.
