  • Matthew 23:20 - When you swear ‘by the altar,’ you are swearing by it and by everything on it.
  • Matthew 23:21 - And when you swear ‘by the Temple,’ you are swearing by it and by God, who lives in it.
  • Matthew 23:22 - And when you swear ‘by heaven,’ you are swearing by the throne of God and by God, who sits on the throne.

  • Matthew 23:24 - Blind guides! You strain your water so you won’t accidentally swallow a gnat, but you swallow a camel!
  • Matthew 23:25 - “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy—full of greed and self-indulgence!
  • Matthew 23:26 - You blind Pharisee! First wash the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside will become clean, too.
  • Isaiah 29:10 - For the Lord has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep. He has closed the eyes of your prophets and visionaries.
  • Isaiah 29:11 - All the future events in this vision are like a sealed book to them. When you give it to those who can read, they will say, “We can’t read it because it is sealed.”

  • Hosea 4:6 - My people are being destroyed because they don’t know me. Since you priests refuse to know me, I refuse to recognize you as my priests. Since you have forgotten the laws of your God, I will forget to bless your children.
  • Micah 2:1 - What sorrow awaits you who lie awake at night, thinking up evil plans. You rise at dawn and hurry to carry them out, simply because you have the power to do so.
  • Romans 3:11 - No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God.
  • Jeremiah 5:21 - Listen, you foolish and senseless people, with eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear.
  • Romans 16:19 - But everyone knows that you are obedient to the Lord. This makes me very happy. I want you to be wise in doing right and to stay innocent of any wrong.
  • 1 Corinthians 14:20 - Dear brothers and sisters, don’t be childish in your understanding of these things. Be innocent as babies when it comes to evil, but be mature in understanding matters of this kind.
