The Message - The woodworker draws up plans for his no-god, traces it on a block of wood. The first worker says to the second, “You have done a good job.” Another worker smooths out the metal with a hammer. Still another gives the statue its final shape. The one who hammers says to the one who shapes, “You have done a good job.” Then they nail the statue down so it won’t fall over.
Genesis 31:19 - Laban had gone to clip the wool from his sheep. While he was gone, Rachel stole the statues of the family gods that belonged to her father.
Exodus 20:4 - “Do not make for yourself statues of gods that look like anything in the sky. They may not look like anything on the earth or in the waters either.
Exodus 20:5 - Do not bow down to them or worship them. I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God. I cause the sins of the parents to affect their children. I will cause the sins of those who hate me to affect even their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Deuteronomy 4:16 - Make sure you don’t commit a horrible sin. Don’t make for yourselves a statue of a god. Don’t make a god that looks like a man or woman or anything else.
Deuteronomy 4:17 - Don’t make one that looks like any animal on earth or any bird that flies in the sky.
Deuteronomy 4:18 - Don’t make a statue that looks like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish that swims in the water.
Genesis 35:2 - So Jacob spoke to his family and to everyone with him. He said, “Get rid of the statues of false gods you have with you. Make yourselves pure by washing and changing your clothes.
Romans 1:23 - They would rather have statues of gods than the glorious God who lives forever. Their statues of gods are made to look like people, birds, animals and reptiles.
Psalm 115:5 - They have mouths but can’t speak. They have eyes but can’t see.
Psalm 115:6 - They have ears but can’t hear. They have noses but can’t smell.
Psalm 115:7 - They have hands but can’t feel. They have feet but can’t walk. They have throats but can’t say anything.
Judges 17:4 - Micah gave the silver back to his mother. Then she gave five pounds of it to a skilled worker who made things out of silver. He used the silver for the statue. The statue was put in Micah’s house.
Judges 17:5 - That same Micah had a small temple. He made a sacred linen apron and some statues of his family gods. He appointed one of his sons to serve as his priest.
