James 2:15 - Suppose a brother or a sister has no clothes or food.
James 2:16 - Suppose one of you says to them, “Go. I hope everything turns out fine for you. Keep warm. Eat well.” And suppose you do nothing about what they really need. Then what good have you done?
James 2:17 - It is the same with faith. If it doesn’t cause us to do something, it’s dead.
James 2:18 - But someone will say, “You have faith. I do good deeds.” Show me your faith that doesn’t cause you to do good deeds. And I will show you my faith by the goods deeds I do.
James 2:19 - You believe there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that. And they tremble!
James 2:20 - You foolish person! Do you want proof that faith without good deeds is useless?
James 2:21 - Our father Abraham offered his son Isaac on the altar. Wasn’t he considered to be right with God because of what he did?
James 2:22 - So you see that what he believed and what he did were working together. What he did made his faith complete.
James 2:23 - That is what Scripture means where it says, “Abraham believed God. God accepted Abraham because he believed. So his faith made him right with God.” ( Genesis 15:6 ) And that’s not all. God called Abraham his friend.
Ezekiel 18:7 - He does not treat anyone badly. Instead, he always returns things he takes to make sure loans are paid back. He does not steal. Instead, he gives his food to hungry people. He provides clothes for those who are naked.
James 1:27 - Here are the beliefs and way of life that God our Father accepts as pure and without fault. When widows are in trouble, take care of them. Do the same for children who have no parents. And don’t let the world make you impure.
Amos 2:8 - They lie down beside every altar on clothes they have taken. They lie on those clothes until the owner pays back what is owed. In the house of their God they drink wine that was paid as fines.
Genesis 15:6 - Abram believed the Lord. The Lord was pleased with Abram because he believed. So Abram’s faith made him right with the Lord.
Job 31:16 - “I haven’t said no to what poor people have wanted. I haven’t let widows lose their hope.
Job 31:17 - I haven’t kept my bread to myself. I’ve shared it with children whose fathers had died.
Job 31:18 - From the time I was young, I’ve helped those widows. I’ve raised those children as a father would.
Job 31:19 - Suppose I’ve seen people dying because they didn’t have enough clothes. I’ve seen needy people who didn’t have enough to keep warm.
Job 31:20 - And they didn’t give me their blessing when I warmed them with wool from my sheep.
Job 24:7 - The poor don’t have any clothes. So they spend the night naked. They don’t have anything to cover themselves in the cold.
Job 24:8 - They are soaked by mountain rains. They hug the rocks because they don’t have anything to keep them warm.
Psalm 112:9 - They have spread their gifts around to poor people. Their good works continue forever. They will be powerful and honored.
Isaiah 58:8 - Then the light of my blessing will shine on you like the rising sun. I will heal you quickly. I will march out ahead of you. And my glory will follow behind you and guard you. That’s because I always do what is right.
Deuteronomy 15:9 - Be careful not to have an evil thought in your mind. Don’t say to yourself, “The seventh year will soon be here. It’s the year for forgiving people what they owe.” If you think like that, you might treat the needy people among you badly. You might not give them anything. Then they might make their appeal to the Lord against you. And he will find you guilty of sin.
Deuteronomy 15:10 - So give freely to needy people. Let your heart be tender toward them. Then the Lord your God will bless you in all your work. He will bless you in everything you do.
Exodus 22:26 - Suppose your neighbor owes you money and gives you a coat as a promise to pay it back. Then return it by sunset.
Exodus 22:27 - That coat is the only thing your neighbor owns to wear or sleep in. When they cry out to me, I will listen, because I am loving and kind.
Deuteronomy 24:15 - Give them their pay every day. They are poor and are counting on it. If you don’t pay them, they might cry out to the Lord against you. Then you will be guilty of committing a sin.
Daniel 4:27 - So, Your Majesty, I hope you will accept my advice. Stop being sinful. Do what is right. Give up your evil practices. Show kindness to those who are being treated badly. Then perhaps things will continue to go well with you.”
Deuteronomy 6:25 - We must make sure we obey the whole law in the sight of the Lord our God. That’s what he has commanded us to do. If we obey his law, we’ll be doing what he requires of us.”
