Teach Sound Doctrine
1But as for you, teach what accords with 2:1 See 1 Tim. 1:10sound2:1 Or healthy; also verses 2, 8 doctrine.
2Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, 2:2 [See ver. 1above]sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.
32:3 [1 Tim. 2:9] Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, 2:3 1 Tim. 3:11not slanderers 2:3 [1 Tim. 3:8; 5:23]or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good,
4and so train the young women to love their husbands and children,
5to be self-controlled, 2:5 1 Pet. 3:2pure, 2:5 [1 Tim. 5:14] working at home, kind, and 2:5 See Gen. 3:16submissive to their own husbands, 2:5 See 1 Tim. 6:1that the word of God may not be reviled.
6Likewise, urge 2:6 1 Tim. 5:1the younger men to be self-controlled.
7Show yourself in all respects to be 2:7 1 Tim. 4:12; 1 Pet. 5:3a model of good works, and in your teaching 2:7 [2 Cor. 11:3] show integrity, 2:7 1 Tim. 2:2dignity,
8and 2:8 [1 Tim. 6:3] sound speech that cannot be condemned, 2:8 Neh. 5:9; 1 Tim. 5:14; 1 Pet. 2:12; 3:16so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.
