The Messiah’s Triumph and Kingdom
(Acts 4:23–31)
1Why do the 2:1 Gentilesnations 2:1 throng tumultuouslyrage,
And the people plot a 2:1 worthless or emptyvain thing?
2The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against the Lord and against His Anointed,2:2 Christ, Commissioned One, Heb. Messiah saying,
3“Let us break Their bonds in pieces
And cast away Their cords from us.”
4He who sits in the heavens shall laugh;
The Lord shall hold them in derision.
5Then He shall speak to them in His wrath,
And distress them in His deep displeasure:
6“Yet I have 2:6 Lit. installedset My King
2:6 Lit. Upon Zion, the hill of My holinessOn My holy hill of Zion.”
7“I will declare the 2:7 Or decree of the Lord: He said to Medecree:
The Lord has said to Me,
‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
8Ask of Me, and I will give You
The nations for Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth for Your possession.
9You shall 2:9 So with MT, Tg.; LXX, Syr., Vg. rule (cf. Rev. 2:27)break them with a rod of iron;
You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ”
10Now therefore, be wise, O kings;
Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
11Serve the Lord with fear,
And rejoice with trembling.
122:12 LXX, Vg. Embrace discipline; Tg. Receive instructionKiss the Son, lest 2:12 LXX the LordHe be angry,
And you perish in the way,
When His wrath is kindled but a little.
Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.
