Psalm 16
Confidence in the Lord
A Miktam of David.16:0 Ps 56–60
1Protect me, God, for I take refuge in you.16:1 Ps 94:22
2I16:2 Some Hb mss, LXX, Syr, Jer; other Hb mss read You said to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
I have nothing good besides you.”16:2 Or “Lord, my good; there is none besides you.”16:2 Ps 73:25
3As for the holy people who are in the land,16:3 Dt 7:6; 14:2; 26:19
they are the noble ones.
All my delight is in them.
4The sorrows of those who take another god
for themselves will multiply;
I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood,
and I will not speak their names with my lips.16:4 Ex 23:13; Jos 23:7

5 Lord, you are my portion16:5 Or allotted portion
and my cup of blessing;
you hold my future.16:5 Nm 18:20; Ps 119:57; Lm 3:24
6The boundary lines have fallen for me
in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.16:6 Jr 3:19

7I will bless the Lord who counsels me16:7 Ps 73:24 —
even at night when my thoughts trouble me.16:7 Or at night my heart instructs me16:7 Ps 77:6
8I always let the Lord guide me.16:8 Lit I place the Lord in front of me always
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.16:8 Ps 15:5; 112:6

9Therefore my heart is glad
and my whole being rejoices;
my body also rests securely.16:9 Ps 4:7–8; 13:5
10For you will not abandon me to Sheol;16:10 Ps 49:10; 86:13
you will not allow your faithful one to see decay.16:10 Jb 33:18,28; Ps 30:3; 103:4; Ac 13:35
11You reveal the path of life to me;
in your presence is abundant joy;16:11 Ps 21:6
at your right hand are eternal pleasures.16:8–11 Ac 2:25–28
