David and Zion Chosen
A song of ascents.
1Lord, remember David
and all the hardships he endured, 2Sm 16:12
2and how he swore an oath to the Lord,
making a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: Gn 49:24; Is 49:26; 60:16
3“I will not enter my house Lit enter the tent of my house
or get into my bed, Lit into the couch of my bed
4I will not allow my eyes to sleep
or my eyelids to slumber Pr 6:4
5until I find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.” 1Ch 22:7; Ac 7:46
6We heard of the ark in Ephrathah; = Bethlehem Gn 35:19; Ru 4:11; 1Sm 17:12; Mc 5:2
we found it in the fields of Jaar. = Kiriath-jearim 1Sm 7:1
7Let us go to His dwelling place;
let us worship at His footstool. 1Ch 28:2; Ps 99:5
8Rise up, Lord, come to Your resting place,
You and Your powerful ark. 2Ch 6:41; Ps 68:1; 78:61
9May Your priests be clothed with righteousness,
and may Your godly people shout for joy. Jb 29:14; Ps 149:5
10Because of Your servant David,
do not reject Your anointed one. = the king 2Ch 6:42
11The Lord swore an oath to David,
a promise He will not abandon:
“I will set one of your descendants Lit set the fruit of your womb
on your throne. 2Sm 7:12-16; Ps 89:3; Ac 2:30
12If your sons keep My covenant
and My decrees that I will teach them,
their sons will also sit on your throne forever.” 1Kg 8:25; Lk 1:32
13For the Lord has chosen Zion;
He has desired it for His home: Ps 68:16; 78:68
14“This is My resting place forever;
I will make My home here
because I have desired it. Mt 23:21
15I will abundantly bless its food;
I will satisfy its needy with bread. Ps 107:9; 147:14
16I will clothe its priests with salvation,
and its godly people will shout for joy. 2Ch 6:41
17There I will make a horn grow for David; 2Sm 23:5; Lk 1:69
I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one. 1Kg 11:36
18I will clothe his enemies with shame, Jb 8:22
but the crown he wears Lit but on him his crown will be glorious.” Ps 21:3
