The Plot to Kill Jesus
After Mt 26:1-5; Lk 22:1-2 two days it was the Passover Ex 12:11 and the Festival Jn 5:1 of Unleavened Bread. Ex 23:15 The chief priests and the scribes Mt 2:4 were looking for a treacherous Ps 10:7 way to arrest and kill Him. Jn 5:18
“Not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be rioting among the people.”
The Anointing at Bethany
While Mt 26:6-13; Jn 12:2-8 He was in Bethany Mk 11:1 at the house of Simon who had a serious skin disease, Mt 11:5 as He was reclining at the table, Lv 19:34 a woman came with an alabaster jar of pure and expensive fragrant oil of nard. She broke the jar and poured it on His head. Rm 12:13
But some were expressing indignation to one another: “Why has this fragrant oil been wasted?
For this oil might have been sold for more than 300 denarii Mt 18:28 and given to the poor.” Rm 15:26 And they began to scold her.
Then Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a noble thing 1Pt 2:12 for Me.
You always have the poor Dt 15:11 with you, and you can do what is good for them whenever you want, but you do not always have Me. Lk 10:38-42
She has done what she could; she has anointed My body Lk 12:4 in advance for burial. Jn 19:40
I assure you: Ps 72:19; Rv 22:21 Wherever the gospel Mk 1:1; Php 1:5 is proclaimed in the whole world, Mt 13:38; 1Jn 2:2 what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.”
Then Mt 26:14-16; Lk 22:3-6 Judas Iscariot, Mk 3:19 one of the Twelve, Mk 11:11 went to the chief priests Mt 2:4 to hand Him over Mk 9:31 to them.
And when they heard this, they were glad and promised to give him silver. Or money ; in Mt 26:15 it is specified as 30 pieces of silver; see Zch 11:12-13 Lk 19:15 So he started looking for a good opportunity to betray Jn 13:21 Him.
Preparation for Passover
On Mt 26:17-19; Lk 22:7-13 the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrifice the Passover lamb, Ex 12:21 His disciples Mt 9:10; Mk 10:10; Lk 6:1; Jn 6:3; Ac 6:1 asked Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare the Passover so You may eat it? ”
So He sent two of His disciples and told them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a water jug will meet you. Follow him.
Wherever he enters, tell the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher Mk 4:38; Eph 4:11 says, “Where is the guest room for Me to eat the Passover with My disciples? ” ’
He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.”
So the disciples Mk 10:10 went out, entered the city, and found it just as He had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
Betrayal at the Passover
When Mt 26:20-25; Lk 22:21-23; Jn 13:21-30 evening came, He arrived with the Twelve. Mk 11:11
While they were reclining and eating, Jesus said, “I assure you: One of you will betray Me — one who is eating with Me! ”
They began to be distressed and to say to Him one by one, “Surely not I? ”
He said to them, “It is one of the Twelve — the one who is dipping bread with Me in the bowl.
For the Son of Man Mk 2:10 will go just as it is written Mk 1:2; Ac 15:15 about Him, Dn 7:21,25; 9:26 but woe Rv 9:12 to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”
The First Lord’s Supper
As Mt 26:26-30; Lk 22:17-20; 1Co 11:23-25 they were eating, He took bread, 1Co 10:16 blessed and broke Mt 14:19; 15:36; Ac 2:46; 20:7,11; 27:35 it, gave it to them, Lk 24:30 and said, “Take it; Other mss add eat; this is My body.” Lk 12:4; Jn 2:21; 6:51
Then He took a cup, and after giving thanks, Mk 8:6 He gave it to them, and so they all drank from it.
He said to them, “This is My blood that establishes the covenant; Other mss read the new covenant Ex 24:8; Zch 9:11; Heb 9:18-20; 10:29; 13:20 it is shed Gn 4:11; Nm 35:33; Lm 4:13; Mt 23:35 for many. Is 52:13–53:12

I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep Mt 7:15 will be scattered. Zch 13:7 Zch 13:7
But after I have been resurrected, 1Co 15:4 I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” Mt 17:22
Peter Lk 6:14; Ac 10:32 told Him, “Even if everyone runs away, I will certainly not! ”
“I assure you,” Jesus said to him, “today, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times! ” Mk 14:72
But he kept insisting, “If I have to die with You, I will never deny You! ” And they all said the same thing.
The Prayer in the Garden
Then Mt 26:36-46; Lk 22:39-46 they came to a place named Gethsemane, and He told His disciples, Mk 10:10 “Sit here while I pray.” Mt 5:44; Ac 12:12
He took Peter, Lk 6:14 James, Ac 12:2 and John Jn 21:7 with Him, and He began to be deeply distressed and horrified.
Then He said to them, “My soul is swallowed up in sorrow Or I am deeply grieved — to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake.” Rv 16:15
Then He went a little farther, fell to the ground, and began to pray that if it were possible, the hour Jn 2:4 might pass from Him.
And He said, Abba, Rm 8:15; Gl 4:6 Father! Mt 5:16; 11:27; Jn 8:42 All things are possible Mt 19:26; Mk 9:23 for You. Take this cup Ps 11:6; Is 51:17,22; Lm 4:21; Ezk 23:32-34; Mk 10:38-39; Jn 18:11 away from Me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”
Then He came and found them sleeping. “Simon, Mt 16:17 are you sleeping? ” He asked Peter. Lk 6:14 “Couldn’t you stay awake one hour?
Stay awake and pray Mt 5:44 so that you won’t enter into temptation. Mt 6:13; Lk 4:13 The spirit Ps 51:12 is willing, but the flesh Php 3:3 is weak.”
Once again He went away and prayed, saying the same thing.
And He came again and found them sleeping, because they could not keep their eyes open. Lit because their eyes were weighed down They did not know what to say to Him. Mk 4:40
Then He came a third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The time has come. Look, the Son of Man Mk 2:10 is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Mk 8:31; 9:31; 10:33-34
Get up; Mk 5:41 let’s go! See — My betrayer is near.”
The Judas Kiss
While Mt 26:47-56; Lk 22:47-53; Jn 18:1-2 He was still speaking, Judas, Mk 3:19 one of the Twelve, Mk 11:11 suddenly arrived. With him was a mob, with swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, Mt 2:4 and the elders. 3Jn 1
His betrayer had given them a signal. “The One I kiss,” he said, “He’s the One; arrest Him and take Him away under guard.”
So when he came, he went right up to Him and said, “Rabbi! ” Jn 11:8 — and kissed Him.
Then they took hold of Him and arrested Him.
And one of those who stood by drew his sword, struck the high priest’s slave, and cut off his ear.
But Jesus said to them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs, as though I were a criminal, Lit as against a criminal to capture Me?
Every day I was among you, teaching in the temple complex, Ac 21:26 and you didn’t arrest Me. But the Scriptures 2Pt 1:20 must be fulfilled.” Mt 1:22; Mk 9:12
Then they all deserted Him and ran away. Mk 4:40; Jms 4:7

but he left the linen cloth behind and ran away naked. Am 2:16
Jesus Faces the Sanhedrin

The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin Mk 13:9 were looking for testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, Mt 10:21 but they could find none.
For many were giving false testimony Pr 6:19; 1Jn 5:10 against Him, but the testimonies did not agree.
Some stood up and were giving false testimony against Him, stating,
“We heard Him say, ‘I will demolish this sanctuary made by human hands, Col 2:11 and in three days I will build another not made by hands.’ ”
Yet their testimony did not agree Nm 35:30; Dt 17:6; 19:15; Php 2:6 even on this.
Then the high priest stood up before them all and questioned Jesus, “Don’t You have an answer to what these men are testifying against You? ”
But He kept silent and did not answer anything. Is 53:7; Mt 27:12,14; Mk 15:5; Lk 23:9; Jn 19:9 Again the high priest questioned Him, “Are You the Messiah, Mt 1:17; Eph 5:2 the Son Jn 5:19; Heb 1:2 of the Blessed Lk 1:68; Rm 1:25; 9:5; 2Co 1:3; 11:31; Eph 1:3; 1Pt 1:3 One? ”

You have heard the blasphemy! Jn 10:33 Rv 13:6 What is your decision? ” Lit How does it appear to you?
And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death. Mk 10:33
Then some began to spit on Him, to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, saying, “Prophesy! ” Jn 11:51 The temple police Jn 18:18 also took Him and slapped Him.
Peter Denies His Lord
While Mt 26:69-75; Lk 22:54-62; Jn 18:15-18,25-27 Peter Lk 6:14 was in the courtyard below, one of the high priest’s servants came.
When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with that Nazarene, Mk 1:24; 10:47; 16:6; Lk 4:34; 24:19 Jesus.”
But he denied it: “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about! ” Then he went out to the entryway, and a rooster crowed. Other mss omit and a rooster crowed

Then he started to curse To call down curses on himself if what he said weren’t true and to swear with an oath, Mt 5:34 “I don’t know this man you’re talking about! ”
Immediately a rooster crowed a second time, Mk 14:30 and Peter remembered when Jesus had spoken the word to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” When he thought about it, he began to weep. Or he burst into tears, or he broke down
