Jesus Prays for Himself

1Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said:

Father,

the hour has come.

Glorify Your Son

so that the Son Jn 5:19; Heb 1:2 may glorify You, Jn 12:28

2for You gave Him authority

over all flesh; Or people Php 3:3

so He may give eternal life Jn 12:25; Ac 13:48; 1Jn 2:25

to all You have given Him. Mt 24:22

3This is eternal life:

that they may know You, the only Jn 5:44; Rm 16:27 true Jn 4:23; 1Jn 5:20 God,

and the One You have sent Mk 9:37; Jn 1:6 — Jesus Christ. Jn 5:38; 6:29

4I have glorified You on the earth

by completing the work You gave Me to do.

5Now, Father, Mt 11:27 glorify Me in Your presence

with that glory Mk 10:37; Jn 17:24; 1Pt 5:1 I had with You

before the world existed. Pr 8:23; Jn 1:1-2; 8:58

Jesus Prays for His Disciples

6I have revealed Your name Jn 10:25; Ac 15:14; Rv 14:1

to the men You gave Me Mt 24:22; Jn 6:37 from the world. Jn 8:23; 13:1; 15:19; 17:14-16; 18:36; 1Co 5:10; 1Jn 2:16; 4:5

They were Yours, You gave them to Me, Jn 18:9

and they have kept Your word. Jn 8:51

7Now they know that all things

You have given to Me are from You,

8because the words that You gave Me, Jn 14:24

I have given them.

They have received them

and have known for certain

that I came from You. Jn 5:43; 13:3

They have believed that You sent Me.

9I pray Lit ask (throughout this passage) for them.

I am not praying for the world

but for those You have given Me, Rm 9:11

because they are Yours.

10Everything I have is Yours,

and everything You have is Mine, Jn 16:15

and I have been glorified in them.

11I am no longer in the world,

but they are in the world,

and I am coming to You. Jn 13:3; 14:12

Holy Ps 20:6; 1Co 7:14 Father,

protect Lit keep (throughout this passage) them by Your name Pr 18:10

that You have given Me,

so that they may be one Jn 11:52 as We are Jn 10:16,30; 17:22; Gl 3:28 one.

12While I was with them,

I was protecting them by Your name

that You have given Me.

I guarded 2Tm 1:14 them and not one of them is lost,

except the son of destruction, The one destined for destruction, loss, or perdition

so that the Scripture Mt 26:54 may be fulfilled. Ps 41:9; Jn 13:18; 15:25; 19:24,36

13Now I am coming to You,

and I speak these things in the world

so that they may have My joy completed in them.

14I have given them Your word.

The world hated Lk 6:22,27; 19:14 them

because they are not of the world, Jn 15:19

as I am not of the world. Jn 8:23; 18:36

15I am not praying

that You take them out of the world

but that You protect them from the evil one. 2Th 3:3

16They are not of the world,

as I am not of the world. Jn 18:36; 1Jn 4:17

17Sanctify Set apart for special use Lk 11:2 them by the truth; Ps 119:142; 2Th 2:10; 1Jn 5:20

Your word is truth.

18As You sent Me into the world, 1Jn 4:17

I also have sent them into the world.

19I sanctify Myself for them,

so they also may be sanctified by the truth.

Jesus Prays for All Believers

20I pray not only for these,

but also for those who believe in Me

through their message.

21May they all be one, Jn 11:52; 17:11

as You, Father, are in Me and I am in You. 1Jn 2:24; 5:20

May they also be one Other mss omit one in Us,

so the world may believe You sent Me.

22I have given them the glory Mk 10:37; Jn 17:24; 1Pt 5:1,4 You have given Me.

May they be one as We are one.

23I am in them and You are in Me. 1Jn 4:4

May they be made completely one,

so the world may know You have sent Me

and have loved Jn 3:16; 12:43; 1Co 13:1; 2Th 2:13 them as You have loved Me. Jn 15:9

24Father,

I desire those You have given Me

to be with Me where I am. Jn 12:26

Then they will see My glory,

which You have given Me

because You loved Me before the world’s foundation.

25Righteous Father!

The world has not known You.

However, I have known You, Mt 11:27; Lk 10:22

and these have known that You sent Me.

26I made Your name Jn 10:25 known to them

and will make it known,

so the love You have loved Me with

may be in them and I may be in them. 1Jn 4:4
