  • Matthew 15:2 - “Why do Your disciples violate the tradition (religious laws) handed down by the [Jewish] elders? For Your disciples do not [ceremonially] wash their hands before they eat.”
  • Matthew 15:3 - He replied to them, “Why also do you violate the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition [handed down by the elders]?

  • John 9:33 - If this Man were not from God, He would not be able to do anything [like this because God would not hear His prayer].”
  • Proverbs 3:7 - Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord [with reverent awe and obedience] and turn [entirely] away from evil.
  • Titus 1:13 - This description is true. So rebuke them sharply so that they will be sound in the faith and free from doctrinal error,

  • Matthew 21:26 - But if we say, ‘From men,’ we are afraid of the [response of the] crowd; for they all regard John as a prophet.”
  • Matthew 21:27 - So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And He said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what [kind of] authority I do these things.”
  • Proverbs 28:11 - The rich man [who is conceited and relies on his wealth instead of God] is wise in his own eyes, But the poor man who has understanding [because he relies on God] is able to see through him.
  • Romans 12:16 - Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty [conceited, self-important, exclusive], but associate with humble people [those with a realistic self-view]. Do not overestimate yourself.
  • Matthew 16:1 - Now the Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and testing Jesus [to get something to use against Him], they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven [which would support His divine authority].
  • Matthew 16:2 - But He replied to them, “ When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’
  • Matthew 16:3 - And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and has a threatening look.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but cannot interpret the signs of the times?
  • Matthew 16:4 - An evil and [morally] unfaithful generation craves a [miraculous] sign; but no sign will be given to it, except the sign of [the prophet] Jonah.” Then He left them and went away.
