Numbers 18:23 - The Levites will do the work at the tent of meeting. They will be responsible for any sins connected with the tent. This is a law that will last for all time to come. The Levites will not receive any share among the Israelites.
Numbers 18:24 - Instead, I will give the Levites the tenth as their share. It is the tenth that the Israelites bring me as an offering. That is why I said the Levites would not have any share of land among the Israelites.”
Numbers 18:25 - The Lord said to Moses,
Numbers 18:26 - “Speak to the Levites. Say to them, ‘You will receive the tenth from the Israelites. I will give it to you as your share. When I do, you must give a tenth of that tenth as an offering to the Lord.
Numbers 18:27 - Your offering will be considered as if you gave grain from a threshing floor. It will be considered as juice from a winepress.
Numbers 18:28 - In that way, you also will bring an offering to the Lord. You will bring it from the tenth you receive from the Israelites. You must give the Lord’s part to the priest Aaron. You must bring it from the tenth you receive.
1 Chronicles 26:20 - Men were in charge of the treasures in the house of God. They were the Levite relatives of the men who guarded the gates. These men were also in charge of other treasures that had been set apart for God.
1 Chronicles 26:21 - Ladan was from the family line of Gershon. Some leaders of families belonged to Ladan’s family line. One of them was Jehieli.
1 Chronicles 26:22 - The sons of Jehieli were Zetham and his brother Joel. They were in charge of the treasures in the Lord’s temple.
1 Chronicles 26:23 - Here are the officials who were from the family lines of Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel.
1 Chronicles 26:24 - Shubael was from the family line of Moses’ son Gershom. Shubael was the official in charge of the treasures.
1 Chronicles 26:25 - His relatives through Eliezer included his son Rehabiah. Jeshaiah was Rehabiah’s son. Joram was Jeshaiah’s son. Zikri was Joram’s son. And Shelomith was Zikri’s son.
1 Chronicles 26:26 - Shelomith and his relatives were in charge of all the treasures that had been set apart for God. King David had set those treasures apart. Some family leaders had also set them apart. They were the commanders of thousands of men and commanders of hundreds. The treasures had also been set apart by other army commanders.
1 Chronicles 26:27 - Some of the goods that had been taken in battle were set apart to repair the Lord’s temple.
Numbers 3:36 - They were responsible for taking care of the frames of the tent. They took care of its crossbars, posts and bases. They took care of all its supplies. In fact, they had to take care of everything connected with the use of all those things.
Numbers 3:37 - They also took care of the posts of the courtyard around the holy tent. And they took care of the bases, tent stakes and ropes.
Numbers 3:38 - Moses, Aaron and Aaron’s sons had to camp to the east of the holy tent. They had to camp toward the sunrise in front of the tent of meeting. They were responsible for taking care of the sacred tent. They had to do it for the Israelites. Anyone else who approached the tent would be put to death.
Numbers 3:39 - The total number of the Levite males was 22,000. They were counted family by family. Every male a month old or more was counted. Moses and Aaron counted them, just as the Lord had commanded.
1 Chronicles 9:27 - They spent the night in their positions around the house of God. That’s because they had to guard it. They were in charge of the key that opened it each morning.
1 Chronicles 9:28 - Some Levites were in charge of the objects that were used when they served at the temple. They counted the objects when they were brought in. They also counted them when they were taken out.
1 Chronicles 9:29 - Other Levites were appointed to take care of all the other things that belonged to the temple. They also took care of the special flour, wine, olive oil, incense and spices.
Hebrews 13:17 - Trust in your leaders. Put yourselves under their authority. Do this, because they keep watch over you. They know they are accountable to God for everything they do. Do this, so that their work will be a joy. If you make their work a heavy load, it won’t do you any good.
Numbers 18:1 - The Lord spoke to Aaron. He said, “You, your sons and your family are in charge of the sacred tent. You will be responsible for sins connected with the tent. And you and your sons alone will be responsible for sins connected with the office of priest.
Numbers 18:2 - Bring the Levites from your tribe to join you. They will help you when you and your sons serve at the tent of meeting. That is where the tablets of the covenant law are kept.
Numbers 18:3 - The Levites will work for you. They must do everything that needs to be done at the tent. But they must not go near anything that belongs to the sacred tent. And they must not go near the altar. If they do, they and you will die.
Numbers 18:4 - They will help you take care of the tent of meeting. They will join you in all the work at the tent. No one else can come near you there.
Numbers 18:5 - “You will be responsible for taking care of the sacred tent and the altar. Then I will not be angry with the Israelites again.
