  • Matthew 21:23 - When Jesus returned to the Temple and began teaching, the leading priests and elders came up to him. They demanded, “By what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right?”
  • Mark 12:15 - Should we pay them, or shouldn’t we?” Jesus saw through their hypocrisy and said, “Why are you trying to trap me? Show me a Roman coin, and I’ll tell you.”
  • John 6:30 - They answered, “Show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe in you. What can you do?
  • Mark 7:1 - One day some Pharisees and teachers of religious law arrived from Jerusalem to see Jesus.
  • Mark 7:2 - They noticed that some of his disciples failed to follow the Jewish ritual of hand washing before eating.
  • Matthew 22:18 - But Jesus knew their evil motives. “You hypocrites!” he said. “Why are you trying to trap me?
  • Matthew 22:34 - But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again.
  • Matthew 22:35 - One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question:
  • Luke 11:53 - As Jesus was leaving, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees became hostile and tried to provoke him with many questions.
  • Luke 11:54 - They wanted to trap him into saying something they could use against him.
  • Luke 10:25 - One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?”
  • Luke 11:16 - Others, trying to test Jesus, demanded that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority.
  • Malachi 3:15 - From now on we will call the arrogant blessed. For those who do evil get rich, and those who dare God to punish them suffer no harm.’”
  • Exodus 17:7 - Moses named the place Massah (which means “test”) and Meribah (which means “arguing”) because the people of Israel argued with Moses and tested the Lord by saying, “Is the Lord here with us or not?”
  • 1 Corinthians 10:9 - Nor should we put Christ to the test, as some of them did and then died from snakebites.
  • Deuteronomy 6:16 - You must not test the Lord your God as you did when you complained at Massah.
  • Matthew 12:38 - One day some teachers of religious law and Pharisees came to Jesus and said, “Teacher, we want you to show us a miraculous sign to prove your authority.”
