Hebrews 10:29 - People who deserve even more punishment include those who have hated the Son of God. They include people who have said no to him. They include people who have treated as unholy the blood of the covenant that makes them holy. They also include people who have disrespected the Holy Spirit who brings God’s grace. Don’t you think people like this should be punished more than anyone else?
Hebrews 10:30 - We know the God who said, “I am the God who judges people. I will pay them back.” ( Deuteronomy 32:35 ) Scripture also says, “The Lord will judge his people.” ( Deuteronomy 32:36 ; Psalm 135:14 )
Hebrews 10:31 - It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Psalm 80:15 - Guard the root you have planted with your powerful right hand. Take care of the branch you have raised up for yourself.
Psalm 80:16 - Your vine has been cut down and burned in the fire. You have been angry with us, and we are dying.
1 Peter 4:17 - It is time for judgment to begin with the household of God. And since it begins with us, what will happen to people who don’t obey God’s good news?
1 Peter 4:18 - Scripture says, “Suppose it is hard for godly people to be saved. Then what will happen to ungodly people and sinners?” ( Proverbs 11:31 )
Ezekiel 15:2 - “Son of man, how is the wood of a vine different from the wood of any tree in the forest?
Ezekiel 15:3 - Can its wood ever be made into anything useful? Can pegs be made from it to hang things on?
Ezekiel 15:4 - Suppose it is thrown in the fire to be burned. And the fire burns both ends and blackens the middle. Then is the wood useful for anything?
Ezekiel 15:5 - It was not useful when it was whole. So how can it be made into something useful now? The fire has burned it and blackened it.”
Ezekiel 15:6 - Here is what the Lord and King says. “Instead of the wood of any tree in the forest, I have given the vine to burn in the fire. I will treat the people who live in Jerusalem the same way.
Ezekiel 15:7 - I will turn against them. They might have come out of the fire. But the fire will destroy them anyway. I will turn against them. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
Malachi 3:1 - The Lord who rules over all says, “I will send my messenger. He will prepare my way for me. Then suddenly the Lord you are looking for will come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant will come. He is the one you long for.”
Malachi 3:2 - But who can live through the day when he comes? Who will be left standing when he appears? He will be like a fire that makes things pure. He will be like soap that makes things clean.
Malachi 3:3 - He will act like one who makes silver pure. And he will purify the Levites, just as gold and silver are purified with fire. Then these men will bring proper offerings to the Lord.
Psalm 92:13 - Their roots will be firm in the house of the Lord. They will grow strong and healthy in the courtyards of our God.
Psalm 92:14 - When they get old, they will still bear fruit. Like young trees they will stay fresh and strong.
Matthew 7:19 - Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down. It is thrown into the fire.
Luke 13:6 - Then Jesus told a story. “A man had a fig tree,” he said. “It was growing in his vineyard. When he went to look for fruit on it, he didn’t find any.
Luke 13:7 - So he went to the man who took care of the vineyard. He said, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree. But I haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’
Luke 13:8 - “ ‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year. I’ll dig around it and feed it.
Luke 13:9 - If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’ ”
John 15:2 - He cuts off every branch joined to me that does not bear fruit. He trims every branch that does bear fruit. Then it will bear even more fruit.
Luke 3:9 - The ax is already lying at the roots of the trees. All the trees that don’t produce good fruit will be cut down. They will be thrown into the fire.”
John 15:6 - If you don’t remain joined to me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and dries up. Branches like those are picked up. They are thrown into the fire and burned.
