  • Matthew 23:16 - “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever takes an oath by the temple, it means nothing. But whoever takes an oath by the gold of the temple is bound by his oath.’
  • Matthew 23:17 - Blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctified the gold?
  • Matthew 23:18 - Also, ‘Whoever takes an oath by the altar, it means nothing; but whoever takes an oath by the gift that is on it is bound by his oath.’
  • Matthew 23:19 - Blind people! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
  • Matthew 23:20 - Therefore, the one who takes an oath by the altar takes an oath by it and by everything on it.
  • Matthew 23:21 - The one who takes an oath by the temple takes an oath by it and by him who dwells in it.
  • Matthew 23:22 - And the one who takes an oath by heaven takes an oath by God’s throne and by him who sits on it.
  • Matthew 23:23 - “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, and yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law — justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These things should have been done without neglecting the others.
  • Matthew 23:24 - Blind guides! You strain out a gnat, but gulp down a camel!
  • Jeremiah 29:31 - “Send a message to all the exiles, saying, ‘This is what the Lord says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite. Because Shemaiah prophesied to you, though I did not send him, and made you trust a lie,
  • Jeremiah 29:32 - this is what the Lord says: I am about to punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his descendants. There will not be even one of his descendants living among these people, nor will any ever see the good that I will bring to my people — this is the Lord’s declaration — for he has preached rebellion against the Lord.’”
  • Ezekiel 13:12 - When the wall has fallen, will you not be asked, “Where’s the whitewash you plastered on it?”
  • Ezekiel 13:13 - “‘So this is what the Lord God says: I will release a whirlwind in my wrath. Torrential rain will come in my anger, and hailstones will fall in destructive fury.
  • Ezekiel 13:14 - I will demolish the wall you plastered with whitewash and knock it to the ground so that its foundation is exposed. The city will fall, and you will be destroyed within it. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
  • Ezekiel 13:15 - After I exhaust my wrath against the wall and against those who plaster it with whitewash, I will say to you, “The wall is no more and neither are those who plastered it —
  • Ezekiel 13:16 - those prophets of Israel who prophesied to Jerusalem and saw a vision of peace for her when there was no peace.” This is the declaration of the Lord God.’
  • Daniel 12:2 - Many who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to eternal life, and some to disgrace and eternal contempt.
  • Daniel 12:3 - Those who have insight will shine like the bright expanse of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.

  • Luke 20:45 - While all the people were listening, he said to his disciples,
  • Luke 20:46 - “Beware of the scribes, who want to go around in long robes and who love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the places of honor at banquets.
  • Luke 20:47 - They devour widows’ houses and say long prayers just for show. These will receive harsher judgment.”

  • Malachi 2:3 - “Look, I am going to rebuke your descendants, and I will spread animal waste over your faces, the waste from your festival sacrifices, and you will be taken away with it.
  • Mark 7:8 - Abandoning the command of God, you hold on to human tradition.”
  • Mark 7:9 - He also said to them, “You have a fine way of invalidating God’s command in order to set up your tradition!
  • Mark 7:10 - For Moses said: Honor your father and your mother; and Whoever speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death.

  • Mark 7:14 - Summoning the crowd again, he told them, “Listen to me, all of you, and understand:
  • Matthew 19:17 - “Why do you ask me about what is good?” he said to him. “There is only one who is good. If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
  • Matthew 19:18 - “Which ones?” he asked him. Jesus answered: Do not murder; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not bear false witness;
  • Romans 7:7 - What should we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! But I would not have known sin if it were not for the law. For example, I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, Do not covet.

  • Matthew 5:33 - “Again, you have heard that it was said to our ancestors, You must not break your oath, but you must keep your oaths to the Lord.
  • Matthew 5:34 - But I tell you, don’t take an oath at all: either by heaven, because it is God’s throne;
  • Matthew 5:35 - or by the earth, because it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great King.
  • Matthew 5:36 - Do not swear by your head, because you cannot make a single hair white or black.
  • Matthew 5:37 - But let your ‘yes’ mean ‘yes,’ and your ‘no’ mean ‘no.’ Anything more than this is from the evil one.
  • 1 Kings 22:28 - But Micaiah said, “If you ever return safely, the Lord has not spoken through me.” Then he said, “Listen, all you people!”
  • Ezekiel 13:21 - I will also tear off your veils and rescue my people from your hands, so that they will no longer be prey in your hands. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
