  • Matthew 21:25 - Where did John’s baptism come from? Was it from heaven? Or did it come from human authority?” They talked to one another about it. They said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’
  • Genesis 37:18 - But they saw him a long way off. Before he reached them, they made plans to kill him.

  • Psalm 2:6 - He says to them, “I have placed my king on my holy mountain of Zion.”
  • Acts 3:15 - You killed the one who gives life. But God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.
  • Psalm 2:8 - Ask me, and I will give the nations to you. All nations on earth will belong to you.
  • Matthew 2:2 - They asked, “Where is the child who has been born to be king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose. Now we have come to worship him.”
  • Matthew 2:3 - When King Herod heard about it, he was very upset. Everyone in Jerusalem was troubled too.
  • Matthew 2:4 - So Herod called together all the chief priests of the people. He also called the teachers of the law. He asked them where the Messiah was going to be born.
  • Matthew 2:5 - “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied. “This is what the prophet has written. He said,
  • Matthew 2:6 - “ ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are certainly not the least important among the towns of Judah. A ruler will come out of you. He will rule my people Israel like a shepherd.’ ” ( Micah 5:2 )
  • Matthew 2:7 - Then Herod secretly called for the Wise Men. He found out from them exactly when the star had appeared.
  • Matthew 2:8 - He sent them to Bethlehem. He said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report it to me. Then I can go and worship him too.”
  • Matthew 2:9 - After the Wise Men had listened to the king, they went on their way. The star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them. It finally stopped over the place where the child was.
  • Matthew 2:10 - When they saw the star, they were filled with joy.
  • Matthew 2:11 - The Wise Men went to the house. There they saw the child with his mother Mary. They bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures. They gave him gold, frankincense and myrrh.
  • Matthew 2:12 - But God warned them in a dream not to go back to Herod. So they returned to their country on a different road.
  • Matthew 2:13 - When the Wise Men had left, Joseph had a dream. In the dream an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph. “Get up!” the angel said. “Take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you to come back. Herod is going to search for the child. He wants to kill him.”
  • Matthew 2:14 - So Joseph got up. During the night, he left for Egypt with the child and his mother Mary.
  • Matthew 2:15 - They stayed there until King Herod died. So the words the Lord had spoken through the prophet came true. He had said, “I brought my son out of Egypt.” ( Hosea 11:1 )
  • Matthew 2:16 - Herod realized that the Wise Men had tricked him. So he became very angry. He gave orders about Bethlehem and the area around it. He ordered all the boys two years old and under to be killed. This agreed with the time when the Wise Men had seen the star.
  • John 11:47 - Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin. “What can we do?” they asked. “This man is performing many signs.
  • John 11:48 - If we let him keep on doing this, everyone will believe in him. Then the Romans will come. They will take away our temple and our nation.”
  • John 11:49 - One of the Jewish leaders spoke up. His name was Caiaphas. He was high priest at that time. He said, “You don’t know anything at all!
  • John 11:50 - You don’t realize what is good for you. It is better if one man dies for the people than if the whole nation is destroyed.”
  • Luke 22:2 - The chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for a way to get rid of Jesus. They were afraid of the people.
  • Romans 8:17 - As his children, we will receive all that he has for us. We will share what Christ receives. But we must share in his sufferings if we want to share in his glory.
  • Hebrews 1:2 - But in these last days, he has spoken to us through his Son. He is the one whom God appointed to receive all things. God also made everything through him.
