  • Genesis 48:19 - But his father refused and said, “I know, my son, I know; Manasseh also will become a people and he will be great; but his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his descendants shall become a multitude of nations.”
  • Genesis 48:20 - Then Jacob blessed them that day, saying, “By you Israel will pronounce a blessing, saying, ‘May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.’ ” And he put Ephraim before Manasseh.
  • Genesis 48:16 - The Angel [that is, the Lord Himself] who has redeemed me [continually] from all evil, Bless the boys; And may my name live on in them [may they be worthy of having their names linked with mine], And the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; And may they grow into a [great] multitude in the midst of the earth.”

  • Joshua 16:5 - Now this was the territory of the sons of Ephraim according to their families: on the east side the border of their inheritance was Ataroth-addar, as far as upper Beth-horon.
  • Joshua 16:6 - Then the border went westward at Michmethath on the north, and turned eastward to Taanath-shiloh and continued beyond it to the east of Janoah.

  • Joshua 16:8 - The border continued from Tappuah westward to the Brook Kanah, and it ended at the [Mediterranean] sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim according to their families (clans),
  • Joshua 16:9 - with the cities which were set apart for the sons of Ephraim within the inheritance of the sons of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages.
  • Joshua 16:10 - But they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites live among Ephraim to this day, and they became forced laborers.
  • Psalms 128:1 - Blessed [happy and sheltered by God’s favor] is everyone who fears the Lord [and worships Him with obedience], Who walks in His ways and lives according to His commandments.
  • Psalms 1:1 - Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example], Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers).
  • Psalms 1:2 - But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night.
  • Psalms 1:3 - And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity].
  • Numbers 32:1 - Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had very large herds of cattle, and they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead [on the east side of the Jordan River], and indeed, the place was suitable for raising livestock.
  • Numbers 32:2 - So the sons of Gad and of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, to Eleazar the priest, and to the leaders of the congregation, saying,
  • Numbers 32:3 - “[The country around] Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,
  • Numbers 32:4 - the land which the Lord conquered before the congregation of Israel, is a land [suitable] for livestock, and your servants have [very large herds of] livestock.”
  • Numbers 32:5 - They said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as a possession. Do not take us across the Jordan [River].”
  • Numbers 32:6 - But Moses said to the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, “Shall your brothers go to war while you sit here?
  • Numbers 32:7 - Now why are you discouraging the hearts of the Israelites from crossing over into the land which the Lord has given them?
  • Numbers 32:8 - This is what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land!
  • Numbers 32:9 - For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the hearts of the Israelites so that they did not go into the land which the Lord had given them.
  • Numbers 32:10 - And the Lord’s anger was kindled on that day and He swore an oath, saying,
  • Numbers 32:11 - ‘None of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I promised to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, because they have not followed Me completely,
  • Numbers 32:12 - except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have followed the Lord completely.’
  • Numbers 32:13 - So the Lord’s anger was kindled against the sons of Israel (Jacob) and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the entire generation of those who had done evil in the sight of the Lord was destroyed.
  • Numbers 32:14 - Now look, you [the tribes of Reuben and Gad] have risen up in your fathers’ place, a brood of sinful men, to add still more to the fierce anger of the Lord against Israel.
  • Numbers 32:15 - For if you turn back from following Him [completely], He will once again leave them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all these people.”
  • Numbers 32:16 - But the people of Reuben and Gad approached Moses and said, “We will build sheepfolds here for our flocks and [walled] cities for our children,
  • Numbers 32:17 - but we will be armed and ready to go to war before the [other tribes of the] Israelites, until we have brought them to their place, while our children live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
  • Numbers 32:18 - We will not return to our homes until every one of the [other] sons of Israel has taken possession of his inheritance.
  • Numbers 32:19 - For we will not inherit with them on the west side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan [River] toward the east.”
  • Numbers 32:20 - Moses replied, “If you will do as you say, if you will arm yourselves before the Lord for war,
  • Numbers 32:21 - and every armed man of yours will cross the Jordan before the Lord until He has driven out His enemies before Him,
  • Numbers 32:22 - and the land [west of the Jordan] is subdued before the Lord, then afterward you shall return and be blameless [in this matter] before the Lord and before Israel, and this land [east of the Jordan] shall be yours as a possession before the Lord.
  • Numbers 32:23 - But if you do not do this, behold, you will have sinned against the Lord; and be sure that your sin will find you out.
  • Numbers 32:24 - Build yourselves cities for your children, and folds for your sheep, and do that of which you have spoken.”
  • Numbers 32:25 - Then the descendants of Gad and of Reuben said to Moses, “Your servants will do just as my lord commands.
  • Numbers 32:26 - Our children, our wives, our livestock, and all our cattle shall be there in the cities of Gilead.
  • Numbers 32:27 - But your servants will cross over, every man armed for war, before the Lord to the battle, just as my lord says.”
  • Numbers 32:28 - So Moses gave the command concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the leaders of the fathers’ households of the tribes of the Israelites.
  • Numbers 32:29 - Moses said to them, “If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben will cross over the Jordan with you, every man armed for battle before the Lord, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead [east of the Jordan River] as a possession;
  • Numbers 32:30 - but if they will not cross over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan [and surrender their right to their land east of the Jordan River].”
  • Numbers 32:31 - The sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, “As the Lord has said to your servants, so will we do.
  • Numbers 32:32 - We will cross over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, so that the possession of our inheritance on [the east] side of the Jordan may be ours.”
  • Numbers 32:33 - So Moses gave to them, to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon, the king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og, the king of Bashan, the land with its cities and territories, the cities of the surrounding land.
  • Numbers 32:34 - The sons of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
  • Numbers 32:35 - Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,
  • Numbers 32:36 - Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran, fortified (walled) cities, and sheepfolds for sheep.
  • Numbers 32:37 - The sons of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
  • Numbers 32:38 - Nebo, and Baal-meon (their names being changed) and Sibmah; and they gave other names to the cities which they built.
  • Numbers 32:39 - The sons of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and drove out the Amorites who were in it.
  • Numbers 32:40 - So Moses gave Gilead to [the tribe of] Machir the son of Manasseh, and they settled in it.
  • Numbers 32:41 - [The sons of] Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its towns (tent villages) and called them Havvoth-jair.
  • Numbers 32:42 - Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and called it Nobah after his own name.
  • Genesis 48:1 - Now some time after these things happened, Joseph was told, “Your father is sick.” So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim with him [to go to Goshen].
  • Ezekiel 19:11 - And it had strong branches for the scepters of rulers, And its height was raised above the thick branches and into the clouds So that it was seen [easily] in its height with the mass of its branches.
  • Joshua 17:14 - The sons of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, “Why have you given us only one lot and one portion as an inheritance, when we are a numerous people whom the Lord has so far blessed?”
  • Joshua 17:15 - Then Joshua replied, “If you are a numerous people, go up to the forest and clear ground for yourselves there in the land of the Perizzites and the Rephaim, since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you.”
  • Joshua 17:16 - The sons of Joseph said, “The hill country is not enough for us, and all the Canaanites who live in the valley have iron chariots, both those who are in Beth-shean and its towns and those in the Valley of Jezreel.”
  • Joshua 17:17 - Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and to Manasseh, “You are a numerous people and have great power; you shall not have only one lot,

  • Deuteronomy 33:17 - His majesty is like a firstborn young bull, And his horns like the horns of the wild ox; With them he will gore the peoples, All of them together, to the ends of the earth. And those are the ten thousands of Ephraim, And those are the thousands of Manasseh.”
  • Genesis 46:27 - and the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two. All the persons of the house of Jacob [including Jacob, and Joseph and his sons], who came into Egypt, were seventy.
