  • Luke 2:23 - In the Law of the Lord it says, “The first boy born in every family must be set apart for the Lord.” ( Exodus 13:2 , 12 )
  • Luke 2:24 - They also offered a sacrifice. They did it in keeping with the Law, which says, “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.” ( Leviticus 12:8 )
  • Luke 2:25 - In Jerusalem there was a man named Simeon. He was a good and godly man. He was waiting for God’s promise to Israel to come true. The Holy Spirit was with him.
  • Luke 2:26 - The Spirit had told Simeon that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.
  • Luke 2:27 - The Spirit led him into the temple courtyard. Then Jesus’ parents brought the child in. They came to do for him what the Law required.
  • John 8:42 - Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me. I have come here from God. I have not come on my own. God sent me.
  • Romans 9:5 - The founders of our nation belong to them. The Messiah comes from their family line. He is God over all. May he always be praised! Amen.
  • Hebrews 9:10 - They deal only with food and drink and different kinds of special washings. They are rules people had to obey only until the new covenant came.
  • Luke 1:31 - You will become pregnant and give birth to a son. You must call him Jesus.
  • 1 Timothy 3:16 - There is no doubt that true godliness comes from this great mystery. Jesus came as a human being. The Holy Spirit proved that he was the Son of God. He was seen by angels. He was preached among the nations. People in the world believed in him. He was taken up to heaven in glory.
  • Matthew 5:17 - “Do not think I have come to get rid of what is written in the Law or in the Prophets. I have not come to do this. Instead, I have come to fulfill what is written.
  • Romans 15:8 - I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews. He teaches us that God is true. He shows us that God will keep the promises he made to the founders of our nation.
  • Acts 1:7 - He said to them, “You should not be concerned about times or dates. The Father has set them by his own authority.
  • Malachi 3:1 - The Lord who rules over all says, “I will send my messenger. He will prepare my way for me. Then suddenly the Lord you are looking for will come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant will come. He is the one you long for.”
  • Hebrews 2:14 - Those children have bodies made out of flesh and blood. So Jesus became human like them in order to die for them. By doing this, he could break the power of the devil. The devil is the one who rules over the kingdom of death.
  • Isaiah 48:16 - “Come close and listen to me. “From the first time I said Cyrus was coming, I did not do it in secret. When he comes, I will be there.” The Lord and King has filled me with his Spirit. People of Israel, he has sent me to you.
  • Philippians 2:6 - In his very nature he was God. Jesus was equal with God. But Jesus didn’t take advantage of that fact.
  • Philippians 2:7 - Instead, he made himself nothing. He did this by taking on the nature of a servant. He was made just like human beings.
  • Philippians 2:8 - He appeared as a man. He was humble and obeyed God completely. He did this even though it led to his death. Even worse, he died on a cross!
  • Genesis 3:15 - I will make you and the woman hate each other. Your children and her children will be enemies. Her son will crush your head. And you will bite his heel.”
  • Romans 8:3 - The written law was made weak by the power of sin. But God did what the written law could not do. He made his Son to be like those who live under the power of sin. God sent him to be an offering for sin. Jesus suffered God’s judgment against our sin.
  • John 10:36 - If that is true, what about the one the Father set apart as his very own? What about this one the Father sent into the world? Why do you charge me with saying a very evil thing? Is it because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?
  • Genesis 49:10 - The right to rule will not leave Judah. The ruler’s scepter will not be taken from between his feet. It will be his until the king it belongs to will come. The nations will obey that king.
  • Zechariah 6:12 - Give Joshua a message from the Lord who rules over all. He says, ‘Here is the man whose name is the Branch. He will branch out and build my temple.
  • Zechariah 2:8 - The Lord rules over all. His angel says to Israel, “The Glorious One has sent me to punish the nations that have robbed you of everything. That’s because anyone who hurts you hurts those the Lord loves and guards.
  • Zechariah 2:9 - So I will raise my powerful hand to strike down your enemies. Their own slaves will rob them of everything. Then you will know that the Lord who rules over all has sent me.
  • Zechariah 2:10 - “ ‘People of Zion, shout and be glad! I am coming to live among you,’ announces the Lord.
  • Zechariah 2:11 - ‘At that time many nations will join themselves to me. And they will become my people. I will live among you,’ says the Lord. Then you will know that the Lord who rules over all has sent me to you.
  • Micah 5:2 - The Lord says, “Bethlehem Ephrathah, you might not be an important town in the nation of Judah. But out of you will come for me a ruler over Israel. His family line goes back to the early years of your nation. It goes all the way back to days of long ago.”
  • Micah 5:3 - The Lord will hand over his people to their enemies. That will last until the pregnant woman bears her promised son. Then the rest of his relatives in Judah will return to their land.
  • Daniel 9:24 - “The Lord has appointed 70 ‘weeks’ for your people and your holy city. During that time, acts against God’s law will be stopped. Sin will come to an end. And the evil things people do will be paid for. Then everyone will always do what is right. Everything that has been made known in visions and prophecies will come true. And the Most Holy Room in the temple will be anointed.
  • Daniel 9:25 - “Here is what I want you to know and understand. There will be seven ‘weeks.’ Then there will be 62 ‘weeks.’ The seven ‘weeks’ will begin when an order is given to rebuild Jerusalem and make it like new again. At the end of the 62 ‘weeks,’ the Anointed King will come. Jerusalem will have streets and a water system when it is rebuilt. But that will be done in times of trouble.
  • Daniel 9:26 - After the 62 ‘weeks,’ the Anointed King will be put to death. His followers will desert him. And everything he has will be taken away from him. The army of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the temple. The end will come like a flood. War will continue until the end. The Lord has ordered that many places be destroyed.
  • Isaiah 9:6 - A child will be born to us. A son will be given to us. He will rule over us. And he will be called Wonderful Adviser and Mighty God. He will also be called Father Who Lives Forever and Prince Who Brings Peace.
  • Isaiah 9:7 - There will be no limit to how great his authority is. The peace he brings will never end. He will rule on David’s throne and over his kingdom. He will make the kingdom strong and secure. His rule will be based on what is fair and right. It will last forever. The Lord’s great love will make sure that happens. He rules over all.
  • Luke 1:35 - The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come to you. The power of the Most High God will cover you. So the holy one that is born will be called the Son of God.
  • Hebrews 10:5 - So when Christ came into the world, he said, “You didn’t want sacrifices and offerings. Instead, you prepared a body for me.
  • Hebrews 10:6 - You weren’t pleased with burnt offerings and sin offerings.
  • Hebrews 10:7 - Then I said, ‘Here I am. It is written about me in the book. I have come to do what you want, my God.’ ” ( Psalm 40:6–8 )
  • Jeremiah 31:22 - How long will you wander, my people Israel, who are not faithful to me? I will create a new thing on earth. The woman will return to the man.”
  • Luke 2:7 - She gave birth to her first baby. It was a boy. She wrapped him in large strips of cloth. Then she placed him in a manger. That’s because there was no guest room where they could stay.
  • Matthew 1:23 - “The virgin is going to have a baby. She will give birth to a son. And he will be called Immanuel.” ( Isaiah 7:14 ) The name Immanuel means “God with us.”
  • John 3:16 - God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life.
  • Romans 1:3 - The good news is about God’s Son. He was born into the family line of King David.
  • John 1:14 - The Word became a human being. He made his home with us. We have seen his glory. It is the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father. And the Word was full of grace and truth.
  • Ephesians 1:10 - It will all come about when history has been completed. God will then bring together all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
  • Isaiah 7:14 - The Lord himself will give you a sign. The virgin is going to have a baby. She will give birth to a son. And he will be called Immanuel.
  • Mark 1:15 - “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Turn away from your sins and believe the good news!”
