Numbers 16:1 - Korah was the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath. Kohath was the son of Levi. Korah and certain men from the tribe of Reuben turned against Moses. The men from Reuben were Dathan, Abiram and On. Dathan and Abiram were the sons of Eliab. On was the son of Peleth.
Numbers 16:2 - All those men rose up against Moses. And 250 men of Israel joined them. All of them were known as leaders in the community. They had been appointed as members of the ruling body.
Numbers 16:3 - They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron. They said to Moses and Aaron, “You have gone too far! The whole community is holy. Every one in it is holy. And the Lord is with them. So why do you put yourselves above the Lord’s people?”
Numbers 16:4 - When Moses heard what they said, he fell with his face to the ground.
Numbers 16:5 - Then he spoke to Korah and all his followers. He said, “In the morning the Lord will show who belongs to him. He will show who is holy. He’ll bring that person near him. He’ll bring the man he chooses near him.
Numbers 16:6 - Korah, here’s what you and all your followers must do. Get some shallow cups for burning incense.
Numbers 16:7 - Tomorrow put burning coals and incense in them. Offer it to the Lord. The man the Lord chooses will be the one who is holy. You Levites have gone too far!”
Numbers 16:8 - Moses also said to Korah, “Listen, you Levites!
Numbers 16:9 - The God of Israel has separated you from the rest of the community of Israel. He has brought you near him to work at the Lord’s holy tent. He has given you to the people so that you can serve them. Isn’t all that enough for you?
Numbers 16:10 - He has already brought you and all the other Levites near him. But now you want to be priests too.
Numbers 16:11 - You and all your followers have joined together against the Lord. Why are you telling Aaron you aren’t happy with him?”
Numbers 16:12 - Then Moses sent for Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab. But they said, “We won’t come!
Numbers 16:13 - You have brought us up out of a land that has plenty of milk and honey. You have brought us here to kill us in this desert. Isn’t that enough? Now do you also want to act as if you were ruling over us?
Numbers 16:14 - Besides, you haven’t brought us into a land that has plenty of milk and honey. You haven’t given us fields and vineyards of our own. Do you want to treat these men like slaves? No! We won’t come!”
Numbers 16:15 - Then Moses became very angry. He said to the Lord, “Don’t accept their offering. I haven’t taken even a donkey from them. In fact, I haven’t done anything wrong to any of them.”
Numbers 16:16 - Moses said to Korah, “You and all your followers must stand in front of the Lord tomorrow. You must appear there along with Aaron.
Numbers 16:17 - Each man must get his shallow cup. He must put incense in it. There will be a total of 250 incense cups. Each man must bring his cup to the Lord. You and Aaron must also bring your cups.”
Numbers 16:18 - So each of them got his cup. He put burning coals and incense in it. All the men came with Moses and Aaron. They stood at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
Numbers 16:19 - Korah gathered all his followers together at the entrance to the tent. They opposed Moses and Aaron. Then the glory of the Lord appeared to the whole community.
Numbers 16:20 - The Lord said to Moses and Aaron,
Numbers 16:21 - “Separate yourselves from these people. Then I can put an end to all of them at once.”
Numbers 16:22 - But Moses and Aaron fell with their faces to the ground. They cried out, “God, you are the God who gives life and breath to all living things. Will you be angry with the whole community when only one man sins?”
Numbers 16:23 - Then the Lord spoke to Moses. He said,
Numbers 16:24 - “Tell the community, ‘Move away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.’ ”
Numbers 16:25 - Moses got up. He went to Dathan and Abiram. The elders of Israel followed him.
Numbers 16:26 - Moses warned the community. He said, “Move away from the tents of these evil men! Don’t touch anything that belongs to them. If you do, the Lord will sweep you away because of all their sins.”
Numbers 16:27 - So they moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram had already come out. They were standing at the entrances to their tents. Their wives, children and little ones were standing there with them.
Numbers 16:28 - Then Moses said, “What is about to happen wasn’t my idea. The Lord has sent me to do everything I’m doing. Here is how you will know I’m telling you the truth.
Numbers 16:29 - These men won’t die a natural death. Something will happen to them that doesn’t usually happen to people. If what I’m telling you doesn’t happen, then you will know that the Lord hasn’t sent me.
Numbers 16:30 - But the Lord will make something totally new happen. The ground will open its mouth and swallow them up. It will swallow up everything that belongs to them. They will be buried alive. When that happens, you will know that these men have disrespected the Lord.”
Numbers 16:31 - As soon as Moses finished saying all these words, what he had said came true. The ground under them broke open.
Numbers 16:32 - It opened its mouth. It swallowed up those men. In fact, it swallowed up everyone who lived in their houses. It swallowed all Korah’s men. And it swallowed up everything they owned.
Numbers 16:33 - They went down into the grave alive. Everything they owned went down with them. The ground closed over them and they died. And so they disappeared from the community.
Numbers 16:34 - All the Israelites around them heard their cries. They ran away from them. They shouted, “The ground is going to swallow us up too!”
Numbers 16:35 - Then the Lord sent down fire. It burned up the 250 men offering the incense.
1 Timothy 1:13 - I used to speak evil things against Jesus. I tried to hurt his followers. I really pushed them around. But God showed me mercy anyway. I did those things without knowing any better. I wasn’t a believer.
1 Timothy 1:14 - Our Lord poured out more and more of his grace on me. Along with it came faith and love from Christ Jesus.
1 Timothy 1:15 - Here is a saying that you can trust. It should be accepted completely. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. And I am the worst sinner of all.
Psalm 78:8 - They would not be like their people who lived long ago. Those people were stubborn. They refused to obey God. They turned away from him. Their spirits were not faithful to him.

Psalm 78:15 - He broke the rocks open in the desert. He gave them as much water as there is in the oceans.
Psalm 78:16 - He brought streams out of a rocky cliff. He made water flow down like rivers.
Psalm 78:17 - But they continued to sin against him. In the desert they refused to obey the Most High God.
Psalm 78:18 - They were stubborn and tested God. They ordered him to give them the food they wanted.
Psalm 78:19 - They spoke against God. They said, “Can God really put food on a table in the desert?
Psalm 78:20 - It is true that he struck the rock, and streams of water poured out. Huge amounts of water flowed down. But can he also give us bread? Can he supply meat for his people?”
Psalm 78:21 - When the Lord heard what they said, he was very angry. His anger broke out like fire against the people of Jacob. He became very angry with Israel.
Psalm 78:22 - That was because they didn’t believe in God. They didn’t trust in his power to save them.
Psalm 78:23 - But he gave a command to the skies above. He opened the doors of the heavens.
Psalm 78:24 - He rained down manna for the people to eat. He gave them the grain of heaven.
Psalm 78:25 - Mere human beings ate the bread of angels. He sent them all the food they could eat.
Psalm 78:26 - He made the east wind blow from the heavens. By his power he caused the south wind to blow.
Psalm 78:27 - He rained down meat on them like dust. He sent them birds like sand on the seashore.
Psalm 78:28 - He made the birds come down inside their camp. The birds fell all around their tents.
Psalm 78:29 - People ate until they couldn’t eat any more. He gave them what they had wanted.
Psalm 78:30 - But even before they had finished eating, God acted. He did it while the food was still in their mouths.
Psalm 78:31 - His anger rose up against them. He put to death the strongest among them. He struck down Israel’s young men.
Psalm 78:32 - But even after all that, they kept on sinning. Even after the wonderful things he had done, they still didn’t believe.
Psalm 78:33 - So he brought their days to an end like a puff of smoke. He ended their years with terror.
Psalm 78:34 - Every time God killed some of them, the others would seek him. They gladly turned back to him again.
Psalm 78:35 - They remembered that God was their Rock. They remembered that God Most High had set them free.
Psalm 78:36 - But they didn’t mean it when they praised him. They lied to him when they spoke.
Psalm 78:37 - They turned away from him. They weren’t faithful to the covenant he had made with them.
Psalm 78:38 - But he was full of tender love. He forgave their sins and didn’t destroy his people. Time after time he held back his anger. He didn’t let all his burning anger blaze out.
Psalm 78:39 - He remembered that they were only human. He remembered they were only a breath of air that drifts by and doesn’t return.
Psalm 78:40 - How often they refused to obey him in the desert! How often they caused him sorrow in that dry and empty land!
Psalm 78:41 - Again and again they tested God. They made the Holy One of Israel sad and angry.
Psalm 78:42 - They didn’t remember his power. They forgot the day he set them free from those who had treated them so badly.
Psalm 78:43 - They forgot how he had shown them his signs in Egypt. They forgot his miracles in the area of Zoan.
Psalm 78:44 - He turned the river of Egypt into blood. The people of Egypt couldn’t drink water from their streams.
Psalm 78:45 - He sent large numbers of flies that bit them. He sent frogs that destroyed their land.
Psalm 78:46 - He gave their crops to the grasshoppers. He gave their food to the locusts.
Psalm 78:47 - He destroyed their vines with hail. He destroyed their fig trees with sleet.
Psalm 78:48 - He killed their cattle with hail. Their livestock were struck by lightning.
Psalm 78:49 - Because he was so angry with Egypt, he caused them to have great trouble. In his great anger he sent destroying angels against them.
Psalm 78:50 - God prepared a path for his anger. He didn’t spare their lives. He gave them over to the plague.
Psalm 78:51 - He killed the oldest son of each family in Egypt. He struck down the oldest son in every house in the land of Ham.
Psalm 78:52 - But he brought his people out like a flock. He led them like sheep through the desert.
Psalm 78:53 - He guided them safely, and they weren’t afraid. But the Red Sea swallowed up their enemies.
Psalm 78:54 - And so he brought his people to the border of his holy land. He led them to the central hill country he had taken by his power.
Psalm 78:55 - He drove out the nations to make room for his people. He gave to each family a piece of land to pass on to their children. He gave the tribes of Israel a place to make their homes.
Psalm 78:56 - But they tested God. They refused to obey the Most High God. They didn’t keep his laws.
Psalm 78:57 - They were like their people who lived long ago. They turned away from him and were not faithful. They were like a bow that doesn’t shoot straight. They couldn’t be trusted.
Psalm 78:58 - They made God angry by going to their high places. They made him jealous by worshiping the statues of their gods.
Psalm 78:59 - When God saw what the people were doing, he was very angry. He turned away from them completely.
Psalm 78:60 - He deserted the holy tent at Shiloh. He left the tent he had set up among his people.
Psalm 78:61 - He allowed the ark to be captured. Into the hands of his enemies he sent the ark where his glory rested.
Psalm 78:62 - He let his people be killed by swords. He was very angry with them.
Psalm 78:63 - Fire destroyed their young men. Their young women had no one to marry.
Psalm 78:64 - Their priests were killed by swords. Their widows weren’t able to weep.
Psalm 78:65 - Then the Lord woke up as if he had been sleeping. He was like a warrior waking up from the deep sleep caused by wine.
Psalm 78:66 - He drove back his enemies. He put them to shame that will last forever.
Psalm 78:67 - He turned his back on the tents of the people of Joseph. He didn’t choose to live in the tribe of Ephraim.
Psalm 78:68 - Instead, he chose to live in the tribe of Judah. He chose Mount Zion, which he loved.
Psalm 78:69 - There he built his holy place as secure as the heavens. He built it to last forever, like the earth.
Psalm 78:70 - He chose his servant David. He took him from the sheep pens.
Psalm 78:71 - He brought him from tending sheep to be the shepherd of his people Jacob. He made him the shepherd of Israel, his special people.
Psalm 78:72 - David cared for them with a faithful and honest heart. With skilled hands he led them.
Nehemiah 9:16 - “But our people before us became proud and stubborn. They didn’t obey your commands.
Nehemiah 9:17 - They refused to listen to you. They forgot the miracles you had done among them. So they became stubborn. When they refused to obey you, they appointed a leader for themselves. They wanted to go back to being slaves in Egypt. But you are a God who forgives. You are gracious. You are tender and kind. You are slow to get angry. You are full of love. So you didn’t desert them.

Deuteronomy 32:5 - Israel, you have sinned against him very much. It’s too bad for you that you aren’t his children anymore. You have become a twisted and evil nation.
Deuteronomy 32:6 - Is that how you thank the Lord? You aren’t wise. You are foolish. Remember, he’s your Father. He’s your Creator. He made you. He formed you.
Numbers 14:1 - That night all the members of the community raised their voices. They wept out loud.
Numbers 14:2 - The Israelites spoke against Moses and Aaron. The whole community said to them, “We wish we had died in Egypt or even in this desert.
Numbers 14:3 - Why is the Lord bringing us to this land? We’re going to be killed by swords. Our enemies will capture our wives and children. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?”
Numbers 14:4 - They said to one another, “We should choose another leader. We should go back to Egypt.”
Numbers 14:5 - Then Moses and Aaron fell with their faces to the ground. They did it in front of the whole community of Israel gathered there.
Numbers 14:6 - Joshua, the son of Nun, tore his clothes. So did Caleb, the son of Jephunneh. Joshua and Caleb were two of the men who had checked out the land.
Numbers 14:7 - They spoke to the whole community of Israel. They said, “We passed through the land and checked it out. It’s very good.
Numbers 14:8 - If the Lord is pleased with us, he’ll lead us into that land. It’s a land that has plenty of milk and honey. He’ll give it to us.
Numbers 14:9 - But don’t refuse to obey him. And don’t be afraid of the people of the land. We will swallow them up. The Lord is with us. So nothing can save them. Don’t be afraid of them.”
Numbers 14:10 - But all the people talked about killing Joshua and Caleb by throwing stones at them. Then the glory of the Lord appeared at the tent of meeting. All the Israelites saw it.
Numbers 25:2 - The women invited the men to feasts and sacrifices to honor their gods. The people ate the sacrifices and bowed down in front of the statues of those gods.
Exodus 17:2 - So they argued with Moses. They said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses replied, “Why are you arguing with me? Why are you testing the Lord?”
Numbers 11:4 - Some people with them began to wish for other food. Again the Israelites began to cry out. They said, “We wish we had meat to eat.
Exodus 14:11 - They said to Moses, “Why did you bring us to the desert to die? Weren’t there any graves in Egypt? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?
Exodus 16:2 - In the desert the whole community told Moses and Aaron they weren’t happy with them.
Numbers 21:5 - So they spoke against God and against Moses. They said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt? Do you want us to die here in the desert? We don’t have any bread! We don’t have any water! And we hate this awful food!”
Deuteronomy 31:27 - I know how you refuse to obey the Lord. I know how stubborn you are. You have refused to obey him while I’ve been living among you. So you will certainly refuse to obey him after I’m dead!

Numbers 16:1 - Korah was the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath. Kohath was the son of Levi. Korah and certain men from the tribe of Reuben turned against Moses. The men from Reuben were Dathan, Abiram and On. Dathan and Abiram were the sons of Eliab. On was the son of Peleth.
Numbers 16:2 - All those men rose up against Moses. And 250 men of Israel joined them. All of them were known as leaders in the community. They had been appointed as members of the ruling body.
Numbers 16:3 - They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron. They said to Moses and Aaron, “You have gone too far! The whole community is holy. Every one in it is holy. And the Lord is with them. So why do you put yourselves above the Lord’s people?”
Numbers 16:4 - When Moses heard what they said, he fell with his face to the ground.
Numbers 16:5 - Then he spoke to Korah and all his followers. He said, “In the morning the Lord will show who belongs to him. He will show who is holy. He’ll bring that person near him. He’ll bring the man he chooses near him.
Numbers 16:6 - Korah, here’s what you and all your followers must do. Get some shallow cups for burning incense.
Numbers 16:7 - Tomorrow put burning coals and incense in them. Offer it to the Lord. The man the Lord chooses will be the one who is holy. You Levites have gone too far!”
Numbers 16:8 - Moses also said to Korah, “Listen, you Levites!
Numbers 16:9 - The God of Israel has separated you from the rest of the community of Israel. He has brought you near him to work at the Lord’s holy tent. He has given you to the people so that you can serve them. Isn’t all that enough for you?
Numbers 16:10 - He has already brought you and all the other Levites near him. But now you want to be priests too.
Numbers 16:11 - You and all your followers have joined together against the Lord. Why are you telling Aaron you aren’t happy with him?”
Numbers 16:12 - Then Moses sent for Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab. But they said, “We won’t come!
Numbers 16:13 - You have brought us up out of a land that has plenty of milk and honey. You have brought us here to kill us in this desert. Isn’t that enough? Now do you also want to act as if you were ruling over us?
Numbers 16:14 - Besides, you haven’t brought us into a land that has plenty of milk and honey. You haven’t given us fields and vineyards of our own. Do you want to treat these men like slaves? No! We won’t come!”
Numbers 16:15 - Then Moses became very angry. He said to the Lord, “Don’t accept their offering. I haven’t taken even a donkey from them. In fact, I haven’t done anything wrong to any of them.”
Numbers 16:16 - Moses said to Korah, “You and all your followers must stand in front of the Lord tomorrow. You must appear there along with Aaron.
Numbers 16:17 - Each man must get his shallow cup. He must put incense in it. There will be a total of 250 incense cups. Each man must bring his cup to the Lord. You and Aaron must also bring your cups.”
Numbers 16:18 - So each of them got his cup. He put burning coals and incense in it. All the men came with Moses and Aaron. They stood at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
Numbers 16:19 - Korah gathered all his followers together at the entrance to the tent. They opposed Moses and Aaron. Then the glory of the Lord appeared to the whole community.
Numbers 16:20 - The Lord said to Moses and Aaron,
Numbers 16:21 - “Separate yourselves from these people. Then I can put an end to all of them at once.”
Numbers 16:22 - But Moses and Aaron fell with their faces to the ground. They cried out, “God, you are the God who gives life and breath to all living things. Will you be angry with the whole community when only one man sins?”
Numbers 16:23 - Then the Lord spoke to Moses. He said,
Numbers 16:24 - “Tell the community, ‘Move away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.’ ”
Numbers 16:25 - Moses got up. He went to Dathan and Abiram. The elders of Israel followed him.
Numbers 16:26 - Moses warned the community. He said, “Move away from the tents of these evil men! Don’t touch anything that belongs to them. If you do, the Lord will sweep you away because of all their sins.”
Numbers 16:27 - So they moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram had already come out. They were standing at the entrances to their tents. Their wives, children and little ones were standing there with them.
Numbers 16:28 - Then Moses said, “What is about to happen wasn’t my idea. The Lord has sent me to do everything I’m doing. Here is how you will know I’m telling you the truth.
Numbers 16:29 - These men won’t die a natural death. Something will happen to them that doesn’t usually happen to people. If what I’m telling you doesn’t happen, then you will know that the Lord hasn’t sent me.
Numbers 16:30 - But the Lord will make something totally new happen. The ground will open its mouth and swallow them up. It will swallow up everything that belongs to them. They will be buried alive. When that happens, you will know that these men have disrespected the Lord.”
Numbers 16:31 - As soon as Moses finished saying all these words, what he had said came true. The ground under them broke open.
Numbers 16:32 - It opened its mouth. It swallowed up those men. In fact, it swallowed up everyone who lived in their houses. It swallowed all Korah’s men. And it swallowed up everything they owned.
Numbers 16:33 - They went down into the grave alive. Everything they owned went down with them. The ground closed over them and they died. And so they disappeared from the community.
Numbers 16:34 - All the Israelites around them heard their cries. They ran away from them. They shouted, “The ground is going to swallow us up too!”
Numbers 16:35 - Then the Lord sent down fire. It burned up the 250 men offering the incense.
1 Timothy 1:13 - I used to speak evil things against Jesus. I tried to hurt his followers. I really pushed them around. But God showed me mercy anyway. I did those things without knowing any better. I wasn’t a believer.
1 Timothy 1:14 - Our Lord poured out more and more of his grace on me. Along with it came faith and love from Christ Jesus.
1 Timothy 1:15 - Here is a saying that you can trust. It should be accepted completely. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. And I am the worst sinner of all.
Psalm 78:8 - They would not be like their people who lived long ago. Those people were stubborn. They refused to obey God. They turned away from him. Their spirits were not faithful to him.
Psalm 78:9 - The soldiers of Ephraim were armed with bows. But they ran away on the day of battle.
Psalm 78:10 - They didn’t keep the covenant God had made with them. They refused to live by his law.
Psalm 78:11 - They forgot what he had done. They didn’t remember the wonders he had shown them.
Psalm 78:12 - He did miracles right in front of their people who lived long ago. At that time they were living in Egypt, in the area of Zoan.
Psalm 78:13 - God parted the Red Sea and led them through it. He made the water stand up like a wall.
Psalm 78:14 - He guided them with the cloud during the day. He led them with the light of a fire all night long.
Psalm 78:15 - He broke the rocks open in the desert. He gave them as much water as there is in the oceans.
Psalm 78:16 - He brought streams out of a rocky cliff. He made water flow down like rivers.
Psalm 78:17 - But they continued to sin against him. In the desert they refused to obey the Most High God.
Psalm 78:18 - They were stubborn and tested God. They ordered him to give them the food they wanted.
Psalm 78:19 - They spoke against God. They said, “Can God really put food on a table in the desert?
Psalm 78:20 - It is true that he struck the rock, and streams of water poured out. Huge amounts of water flowed down. But can he also give us bread? Can he supply meat for his people?”
Psalm 78:21 - When the Lord heard what they said, he was very angry. His anger broke out like fire against the people of Jacob. He became very angry with Israel.
Psalm 78:22 - That was because they didn’t believe in God. They didn’t trust in his power to save them.
Psalm 78:23 - But he gave a command to the skies above. He opened the doors of the heavens.
Psalm 78:24 - He rained down manna for the people to eat. He gave them the grain of heaven.
Psalm 78:25 - Mere human beings ate the bread of angels. He sent them all the food they could eat.
Psalm 78:26 - He made the east wind blow from the heavens. By his power he caused the south wind to blow.
Psalm 78:27 - He rained down meat on them like dust. He sent them birds like sand on the seashore.
Psalm 78:28 - He made the birds come down inside their camp. The birds fell all around their tents.
Psalm 78:29 - People ate until they couldn’t eat any more. He gave them what they had wanted.
Psalm 78:30 - But even before they had finished eating, God acted. He did it while the food was still in their mouths.
Psalm 78:31 - His anger rose up against them. He put to death the strongest among them. He struck down Israel’s young men.
Psalm 78:32 - But even after all that, they kept on sinning. Even after the wonderful things he had done, they still didn’t believe.
Psalm 78:33 - So he brought their days to an end like a puff of smoke. He ended their years with terror.
Psalm 78:34 - Every time God killed some of them, the others would seek him. They gladly turned back to him again.
Psalm 78:35 - They remembered that God was their Rock. They remembered that God Most High had set them free.
Psalm 78:36 - But they didn’t mean it when they praised him. They lied to him when they spoke.
Psalm 78:37 - They turned away from him. They weren’t faithful to the covenant he had made with them.
Psalm 78:38 - But he was full of tender love. He forgave their sins and didn’t destroy his people. Time after time he held back his anger. He didn’t let all his burning anger blaze out.
Psalm 78:39 - He remembered that they were only human. He remembered they were only a breath of air that drifts by and doesn’t return.
Psalm 78:40 - How often they refused to obey him in the desert! How often they caused him sorrow in that dry and empty land!
Psalm 78:41 - Again and again they tested God. They made the Holy One of Israel sad and angry.
Psalm 78:42 - They didn’t remember his power. They forgot the day he set them free from those who had treated them so badly.
Psalm 78:43 - They forgot how he had shown them his signs in Egypt. They forgot his miracles in the area of Zoan.
Psalm 78:44 - He turned the river of Egypt into blood. The people of Egypt couldn’t drink water from their streams.
Psalm 78:45 - He sent large numbers of flies that bit them. He sent frogs that destroyed their land.
Psalm 78:46 - He gave their crops to the grasshoppers. He gave their food to the locusts.
Psalm 78:47 - He destroyed their vines with hail. He destroyed their fig trees with sleet.
Psalm 78:48 - He killed their cattle with hail. Their livestock were struck by lightning.
Psalm 78:49 - Because he was so angry with Egypt, he caused them to have great trouble. In his great anger he sent destroying angels against them.
Psalm 78:50 - God prepared a path for his anger. He didn’t spare their lives. He gave them over to the plague.
Psalm 78:51 - He killed the oldest son of each family in Egypt. He struck down the oldest son in every house in the land of Ham.
Psalm 78:52 - But he brought his people out like a flock. He led them like sheep through the desert.
Psalm 78:53 - He guided them safely, and they weren’t afraid. But the Red Sea swallowed up their enemies.
Psalm 78:54 - And so he brought his people to the border of his holy land. He led them to the central hill country he had taken by his power.
Psalm 78:55 - He drove out the nations to make room for his people. He gave to each family a piece of land to pass on to their children. He gave the tribes of Israel a place to make their homes.
Psalm 78:56 - But they tested God. They refused to obey the Most High God. They didn’t keep his laws.
Psalm 78:57 - They were like their people who lived long ago. They turned away from him and were not faithful. They were like a bow that doesn’t shoot straight. They couldn’t be trusted.
Psalm 78:58 - They made God angry by going to their high places. They made him jealous by worshiping the statues of their gods.
Psalm 78:59 - When God saw what the people were doing, he was very angry. He turned away from them completely.
Psalm 78:60 - He deserted the holy tent at Shiloh. He left the tent he had set up among his people.
Psalm 78:61 - He allowed the ark to be captured. Into the hands of his enemies he sent the ark where his glory rested.
Psalm 78:62 - He let his people be killed by swords. He was very angry with them.

Psalm 78:68 - Instead, he chose to live in the tribe of Judah. He chose Mount Zion, which he loved.
Psalm 78:69 - There he built his holy place as secure as the heavens. He built it to last forever, like the earth.
Psalm 78:70 - He chose his servant David. He took him from the sheep pens.

They wanted to go back to being slaves in Egypt. But you are a God who forgives. You are gracious. You are tender and kind. You are slow to get angry. You are full of love. So you didn’t desert them.
Nehemiah 9:18 - They made for themselves a metal statue of a god that looked like a calf. They said to one another, ‘Here is your god. He brought you up out of Egypt.’ And they did evil things that dishonored you. But you still didn’t desert them.
Deuteronomy 8:2 - Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way. He guided you in the desert for these 40 years. He wanted to take your pride away. He wanted to test you to know what was in your hearts. He wanted to see whether you would obey his commands.
Ezekiel 16:61 - Then you will remember how you have lived. You will be ashamed when I give you Samaria and Sodom. Samaria is your older sister. Sodom is your younger one. I will give them and their daughters to you as daughters. That can’t happen based on my old covenant with you.
Ezekiel 16:62 - So I will make my new covenant with you. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
Ezekiel 16:63 - I will pay for all the sins you have committed. Then you will remember what you have done. You will be ashamed of it. Because of your shame, you will never speak against me again,” announces the Lord and King.
Ezekiel 20:43 - There you will remember your conduct. You will think about everything you did that made you “unclean.” And you will hate yourselves because of all the evil things you have done.
Psalm 95:8 - He says, “Don’t be stubborn as you were at Meribah. Don’t be stubborn as you were that day at Massah in the desert.
Psalm 95:9 - There your people of long ago really tested me. They did it even though they had seen what I had done for them.
Psalm 95:10 - For 40 years I was angry with them. I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray. They do not know how I want them to live.’
Psalm 95:11 - So when I was angry, I made a promise. I said, ‘They will never enjoy the rest I planned for them.’ ”
1 Corinthians 15:9 - I am the least important of the apostles. I’m not even fit to be called an apostle. I tried to destroy God’s church.
Numbers 20:2 - The people didn’t have any water. So they gathered together to oppose Moses and Aaron.
Numbers 20:3 - They argued with Moses. They said, “We wish we had died when our people fell dead in front of the Lord.
Numbers 20:4 - Why did you bring the Lord’s people into this desert? We and our livestock will die here.
Numbers 20:5 - Why did you bring us up out of Egypt? Why did you bring us to this terrible place? It doesn’t have any grain or figs. It doesn’t have any grapes or pomegranates. There isn’t even any water for us to drink!”
Ephesians 2:11 - You who are not Jews by birth, here is what I want you to remember. You are called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “circumcised.” But they have only been circumcised in their bodies by human hands.
Ezekiel 36:31 - You will remember your evil ways and the sinful things you have done. You will hate yourselves because you have sinned so much. I also hate your evil practices.
Deuteronomy 32:5 - Israel, you have sinned against him very much. It’s too bad for you that you aren’t his children anymore. You have become a twisted and evil nation.
Deuteronomy 32:6 - Is that how you thank the Lord? You aren’t wise. You are foolish. Remember, he’s your Father. He’s your Creator. He made you. He formed you.
Numbers 14:1 - That night all the members of the community raised their voices. They wept out loud.
Numbers 14:2 - The Israelites spoke against Moses and Aaron. The whole community said to them, “We wish we had died in Egypt or even in this desert.
Numbers 14:3 - Why is the Lord bringing us to this land? We’re going to be killed by swords. Our enemies will capture our wives and children. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?”
Numbers 14:4 - They said to one another, “We should choose another leader. We should go back to Egypt.”
Numbers 14:5 - Then Moses and Aaron fell with their faces to the ground. They did it in front of the whole community of Israel gathered there.
Numbers 14:6 - Joshua, the son of Nun, tore his clothes. So did Caleb, the son of Jephunneh. Joshua and Caleb were two of the men who had checked out the land.
Numbers 14:7 - They spoke to the whole community of Israel. They said, “We passed through the land and checked it out. It’s very good.
Numbers 14:8 - If the Lord is pleased with us, he’ll lead us into that land. It’s a land that has plenty of milk and honey. He’ll give it to us.
Numbers 14:9 - But don’t refuse to obey him. And don’t be afraid of the people of the land. We will swallow them up. The Lord is with us. So nothing can save them. Don’t be afraid of them.”
Numbers 14:10 - But all the people talked about killing Joshua and Caleb by throwing stones at them. Then the glory of the Lord appeared at the tent of meeting. All the Israelites saw it.
Numbers 25:2 - The women invited the men to feasts and sacrifices to honor their gods. The people ate the sacrifices and bowed down in front of the statues of those gods.
Exodus 17:2 - So they argued with Moses. They said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses replied, “Why are you arguing with me? Why are you testing the Lord?”
Numbers 11:4 - Some people with them began to wish for other food. Again the Israelites began to cry out. They said, “We wish we had meat to eat.
Exodus 14:11 - They said to Moses, “Why did you bring us to the desert to die? Weren’t there any graves in Egypt? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?
Exodus 16:2 - In the desert the whole community told Moses and Aaron they weren’t happy with them.
Numbers 21:5 - So they spoke against God and against Moses. They said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt? Do you want us to die here in the desert? We don’t have any bread! We don’t have any water! And we hate this awful food!”
Deuteronomy 31:27 - I know how you refuse to obey the Lord. I know how stubborn you are. You have refused to obey him while I’ve been living among you. So you will certainly refuse to obey him after I’m dead!
