  • James 2:14 - What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?
  • James 2:15 - Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.
  • James 2:16 - If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?
  • James 2:17 - In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
  • James 2:18 - But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.
  • James 2:19 - You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
  • James 2:20 - You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless ?
  • James 2:21 - Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?
  • James 2:22 - You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.
  • James 2:23 - And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.
  • Ezekiel 18:7 - He does not oppress anyone, but returns what he took in pledge for a loan. He does not commit robbery but gives his food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked.
  • James 1:27 - Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
  • Amos 2:8 - They lie down beside every altar on garments taken in pledge. In the house of their god they drink wine taken as fines.
  • Genesis 15:6 - Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
  • Job 31:16 - “If I have denied the desires of the poor or let the eyes of the widow grow weary,
  • Job 31:17 - if I have kept my bread to myself, not sharing it with the fatherless—
  • Job 31:18 - but from my youth I reared them as a father would, and from my birth I guided the widow—
  • Job 31:19 - if I have seen anyone perishing for lack of clothing, or the needy without garments,
  • Job 31:20 - and their hearts did not bless me for warming them with the fleece from my sheep,
  • Job 24:7 - Lacking clothes, they spend the night naked; they have nothing to cover themselves in the cold.
  • Job 24:8 - They are drenched by mountain rains and hug the rocks for lack of shelter.
  • Psalm 112:9 - They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor, their righteousness endures forever; their horn will be lifted high in honor.
  • Isaiah 58:8 - Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
  • Deuteronomy 15:9 - Be careful not to harbor this wicked thought: “The seventh year, the year for canceling debts, is near,” so that you do not show ill will toward the needy among your fellow Israelites and give them nothing. They may then appeal to the Lord against you, and you will be found guilty of sin.
  • Deuteronomy 15:10 - Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.
  • Exodus 22:26 - If you take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, return it by sunset,
  • Exodus 22:27 - because that cloak is the only covering your neighbor has. What else can they sleep in? When they cry out to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate.
  • Deuteronomy 24:15 - Pay them their wages each day before sunset, because they are poor and are counting on it. Otherwise they may cry to the Lord against you, and you will be guilty of sin.
  • Daniel 4:27 - Therefore, Your Majesty, be pleased to accept my advice: Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then your prosperity will continue.”
  • Deuteronomy 6:25 - And if we are careful to obey all this law before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness.”
