  • 1 Corinthians 9:14 - So also [on the same principle] the Lord directed those who preach the gospel to get their living from the gospel.
  • 1 Corinthians 9:15 - But I have used none of these privileges, nor am I writing this [to suggest] that any such provision be made for me now. For it would be better for me to die than to have anyone deprive me of my boast [in this matter of financial support].
  • 1 Corinthians 9:16 - For if I [merely] preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast about, for I am compelled [that is, absolutely obligated to do it]. Woe to me if I do not preach the good news [of salvation]!
  • 1 Corinthians 9:17 - For if I do this work of my own free will, then I have a reward; but if it is not of my will [but by God’s choosing], I have been entrusted with a [sacred] stewardship.
  • 1 Corinthians 9:18 - What then is my reward? [Just this:] that, when I preach the gospel, I may offer the gospel without charge [to everyone], so as not to take advantage of my rights [as a preacher and apostle] in [preaching] the gospel.

  • Proverbs 25:27 - It is not good to eat much honey, Nor is it glorious to seek one’s own glory.

  • 1 Corinthians 9:1 - Am I not free [unrestrained and exempt from any obligation]? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our [risen] Lord [in person]? Are you not [the result and proof of] my work in the Lord?
  • 1 Corinthians 9:2 - If I am not [considered] an apostle to others, at least I am one to you; for you are the seal and the certificate and the living evidence of my apostleship in the Lord [confirming and authenticating it].
  • 1 Thessalonians 2:9 - For you remember, believers, our labor and hardship. We worked night and day [practicing our trade] in order not to be a [financial] burden to any of you while we proclaimed the gospel of God to you.
  • John 5:41 - I do not receive glory and approval from men;
  • John 5:44 - How can you believe [in Me], when you [seek and] receive glory and approval from one another, and yet you do not seek the glory and approval which comes from the one and only God?
  • Philemon 1:8 - Therefore [on the basis of these facts], though I have enough confidence in Christ to order you to do what is appropriate,
  • Philemon 1:9 - yet for love’s sake I prefer to appeal to you—since I am such a person as Paul, an old man, and now also a prisoner [for the sake] of Christ Jesus—
  • Galatians 1:10 - Am I now trying to win the favor and approval of men, or of God? Or am I seeking to please someone? If I were still trying to be popular with men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.
