The Fool Says, There Is No God

114:1 For ver. 1-7, see Ps. 53:1-6The 14:1 Ps. 74:18, 22; Job 2:10fool says in his heart, 14:1 Ps. 10:4“There is no God.”

They are 14:1 Gen. 6:5, 11, 12corrupt, they do abominable deeds;

14:1 Cited Rom. 3:10-12there is none who does good.

2The Lord14:2 Ps. 102:19; [Ps. 11:4] looks down from heaven on the children of man,

to see if there are any who understand,14:2 Or that act wisely

who 14:2 2 Chr. 15:2; 19:3seek after God.

3They have all turned aside; together they have become 14:3 Job 15:16corrupt;

there is none who does good,

not even one.

4Have they no 14:4 Ps. 82:5; [Isa. 1:3; Jer. 4:22] knowledge, all the evildoers

who 14:4 Prov. 30:14; Jer. 10:25; Hos. 7:7; [Ps. 27:2; Amos 8:4; Mic. 3:3] eat up my people as they eat bread

and 14:4 Ps. 79:6; Jer. 10:25; Hos. 7:7; [Isa. 64:7]do not call upon the Lord?

5There they are in great terror,

for God is with 14:5 Ps. 24:6; 73:15the generation of the righteous.

6You would shame the plans of the poor,

but14:6 Or for the Lord is his 14:6 Ps. 46:1; 61:3; 62:7, 8; 91:2; 142:5refuge.

7Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!

When the Lord14:7 Ps. 85:1; 126:1; Job 42:10; Jer. 30:18; Ezek. 16:53; 39:25; Hos. 6:11; Joel 3:1restores the fortunes of his people,

let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.
