1Paul, Ac 13:9 an apostle of Christ Jesus by God’s will: Eph 1:9

2Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens. Eph 1:20; 2:6; 3:10; 6:12

4For He chose us in Him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in His sight. Vv. 3-14 are 1 sentence in Gk. Jd 24 In love Or In His sight in love

5He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself, according to His favor and will,

6to the praise of His glorious grace Jn 1:14; Rm 5:2; 2Co 4:15 that He favored us with in the Beloved. Mt 3:17; Jn 3:35; 10:17; Col 1:13

7We have redemption in Him Heb 9:12 through His blood, the forgiveness Ps 25:11; Mt 9:2; Mk 2:5; Lk 24:47 of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace

8that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

9He made known to us the mystery of His will, Rm 11:25; 16:25; Eph 3:3; Col 1:27 according to His good pleasure that He planned in Him Rm 9:11

10for the administration Or dispensation ; lit house law (Gk oikonomia) of the days of fulfillment Lit the fulfillment of times — to bring everything together in the Messiah, Mt 1:17; Eph 5:2 both things in heaven and things on earth Php 2:10 in Him. Col 1:16

11We have also received an inheritance Or we also were chosen as an inheritance, or we were also made an inheritance in Him, predestined Pr 19:21 according to the purpose of the One who works out everything in agreement with the decision of His will,

12so that we who had already put our hope 1Th 1:3 in the Messiah might bring praise to His glory. Mk 10:37

13When you heard the message of truth, Col 1:5; 2Th 2:10 the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed in Him, you were also sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. Ps 51:11; Jn 1:33; Ac 2:4; Rm 8:9; Gl 5:25; Ti 3:5; Rv 3:22

14He is the down payment Gn 38:17-18,20; 2Co 1:22; 5:5 of our inheritance, for the redemption of the possession, The possession could be either man’s or God’s to the praise of His glory.

15This is why, since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,

16I never stop giving thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers.

17I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, Or the Father of glory would give you a spirit Or you the Spirit Ps 51:12 of wisdom and revelation 1Pt 4:13 in the knowledge of Him.

18I pray that the perception of your mind Lit the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so you may know what is the hope 1Th 1:3 of His calling, Col 3:15 what are the glorious riches of His inheritance among the saints,

19and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power Ac 4:33 to us who believe, according to the working of His vast strength.

20He demonstrated this power in the Messiah by raising Him from the dead and seating Him at His right hand Php 2:9 in the heavens Jn 20:17; Eph 1:3; 2:6; 3:10; 6:12; Php 2:10; 1Pt 3:22 —

21far above every ruler and authority, power and dominion, and every title given, Lit every name named 2Tm 2:19 not only in this age but also in the one to come. Mk 10:30

22And He put everything under His feet Ps 8:6; Rm 13:1; 1Co 15:27; 1Pt 3:22 Ps 8:6 and appointed Him as head Col 2:10 over everything for the church,

23which is His body, Eph 4:4 the fullness Jn 1:16 of the One who fills all things Col 3:11 in every way.
