  • 1 Samuel 18:25 - Saul then said, “This is what you shall say to David: ‘The king does not desire any dowry except a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to take vengeance on the king’s enemies.’ ” But Saul plotted to have David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
  • 1 Samuel 18:26 - When his servants told David these words, it pleased David to become the king’s son-in-law. So before the time had expired,
  • 1 Samuel 18:27 - David set out and went, he and his men, and fatally struck two hundred men among the Philistines.   • 2 Samuel 15:7 - Now it came about at the end of four years that Absalom said to the king, “Please let me go and pay my vow which I have made to the Lord, in Hebron.
  • 2 Samuel 15:8 - For your servant made a vow while I was living in Geshur in Aram, saying, ‘If the Lord will indeed bring me back to Jerusalem, then I will serve the Lord.’ ”
  • 2 Samuel 15:9 - The king said to him, “Go in peace.” So he got up and went to Hebron.
  • 2 Samuel 15:10 - But Absalom sent spies throughout the tribes of Israel, saying, “As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, ‘Absalom is king in Hebron!’ ”
  • 2 Samuel 15:11 - Then two hundred men went with Absalom from Jerusalem, who were invited and went innocently, for they did not know anything.
  • 2 Samuel 15:12 - And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, from his city Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong, for the people continually increased with Absalom.
  • 2 Samuel 15:13 - Then a messenger came to David, saying, “The hearts of the people of Israel are with Absalom.”
  • 2 Samuel 15:14 - So David said to all his servants who were with him in Jerusalem, “Arise and let’s flee, for otherwise none of us will escape from Absalom. Go quickly, or he will hurry and overtake us, and bring disaster on us and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”
  • 2 Samuel 15:15 - Then the king’s servants said to the king, “Behold, your servants will do whatever my lord the king chooses.”
  • 2 Samuel 15:16 - So the king left, and all his household with him; but the king left ten concubines behind to take care of the house.
  • 2 Samuel 15:17 - The king left, and all the people with him, and they stopped at the last house.
  • 2 Samuel 15:18 - Now all of his servants passed by beside him, and all the Cherethites, all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men who had come with him from Gath, passed by before the king.
  • 2 Samuel 15:19 - Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why should you go with us too? Return and stay with your king, since you are a foreigner and an exile as well; return to your own place.
  • 2 Samuel 15:20 - You came only yesterday, so should I make you wander with us today, while I go wherever I go? Return and take your brothers back; mercy and truth be with you.”
