  • Ezra 9:6 - I prayed, “O my God, I am utterly ashamed; I blush to lift up my face to you. For our sins are piled higher than our heads, and our guilt has reached to the heavens.
  • Ezra 9:7 - From the days of our ancestors until now, we have been steeped in sin. That is why we and our kings and our priests have been at the mercy of the pagan kings of the land. We have been killed, captured, robbed, and disgraced, just as we are today.
  • Ezra 9:8 - “But now we have been given a brief moment of grace, for the Lord our God has allowed a few of us to survive as a remnant. He has given us security in this holy place. Our God has brightened our eyes and granted us some relief from our slavery.
  • Ezra 9:9 - For we were slaves, but in his unfailing love our God did not abandon us in our slavery. Instead, he caused the kings of Persia to treat us favorably. He revived us so we could rebuild the Temple of our God and repair its ruins. He has given us a protective wall in Judah and Jerusalem.
  • Ezra 9:10 - “And now, O our God, what can we say after all of this? For once again we have abandoned your commands!
  • Ezra 9:11 - Your servants the prophets warned us when they said, ‘The land you are entering to possess is totally defiled by the detestable practices of the people living there. From one end to the other, the land is filled with corruption.
  • Jeremiah 4:17 - They surround Jerusalem like watchmen around a field, for my people have rebelled against me,” says the Lord.
  • Jeremiah 4:18 - “Your own actions have brought this upon you. This punishment is bitter, piercing you to the heart!”
  • Ezekiel 22:25 - Your princes plot conspiracies just as lions stalk their prey. They devour innocent people, seizing treasures and extorting wealth. They make many widows in the land.
  • Ezekiel 22:26 - Your priests have violated my instructions and defiled my holy things. They make no distinction between what is holy and what is not. And they do not teach my people the difference between what is ceremonially clean and unclean. They disregard my Sabbath days so that I am dishonored among them.
  • Ezekiel 22:27 - Your leaders are like wolves who tear apart their victims. They actually destroy people’s lives for money!
  • Ezekiel 22:28 - And your prophets cover up for them by announcing false visions and making lying predictions. They say, ‘My message is from the Sovereign Lord,’ when the Lord hasn’t spoken a single word to them.
  • Ezekiel 22:29 - Even common people oppress the poor, rob the needy, and deprive foreigners of justice.
  • Ezekiel 22:30 - “I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.
  • Ezekiel 22:31 - So now I will pour out my fury on them, consuming them with the fire of my anger. I will heap on their heads the full penalty for all their sins. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!”
  • Jeremiah 11:17 - “I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, who planted this olive tree, have ordered it destroyed. For the people of Israel and Judah have done evil, arousing my anger by burning incense to Baal.”
  • Jeremiah 5:29 - Should I not punish them for this?” says the Lord. “Should I not avenge myself against such a nation?
  • Jeremiah 22:9 - And the answer will be, ‘Because they violated their covenant with the Lord their God by worshiping other gods.’”
  • Jeremiah 9:12 - Who is wise enough to understand all this? Who has been instructed by the Lord and can explain it to others? Why has the land been so ruined that no one dares to travel through it?
  • Jeremiah 9:13 - The Lord replies, “This has happened because my people have abandoned my instructions; they have refused to obey what I said.
  • Jeremiah 9:14 - Instead, they have stubbornly followed their own desires and worshiped the images of Baal, as their ancestors taught them.
  • Lamentations 1:8 - Jerusalem has sinned greatly, so she has been tossed away like a filthy rag. All who once honored her now despise her, for they have seen her stripped naked and humiliated. All she can do is groan and hide her face.
  • Jeremiah 7:19 - Am I the one they are hurting?” asks the Lord. “Most of all, they hurt themselves, to their own shame.”
  • Zechariah 7:12 - They made their hearts as hard as stone, so they could not hear the instructions or the messages that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies had sent them by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. That is why the Lord of Heaven’s Armies was so angry with them.
  • Zechariah 7:13 - “Since they refused to listen when I called to them, I would not listen when they called to me, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
  • Nehemiah 9:33 - Every time you punished us you were being just. We have sinned greatly, and you gave us only what we deserved.
  • Ezekiel 8:17 - “Have you seen this, son of man?” he asked. “Is it nothing to the people of Judah that they commit these detestable sins, leading the whole nation into violence, thumbing their noses at me, and provoking my anger?
  • Ezekiel 8:18 - Therefore, I will respond in fury. I will neither pity nor spare them. And though they cry for mercy, I will not listen.”
  • Jeremiah 2:17 - And you have brought this upon yourselves by rebelling against the Lord your God, even though he was leading you on the way!
  • Jeremiah 2:18 - “What have you gained by your alliances with Egypt and your covenants with Assyria? What good to you are the streams of the Nile or the waters of the Euphrates River?
  • Jeremiah 2:19 - Your wickedness will bring its own punishment. Your turning from me will shame you. You will see what an evil, bitter thing it is to abandon the Lord your God and not to fear him. I, the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!
  • Daniel 9:5 - But we have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations.
  • Jeremiah 44:8 - Why provoke my anger by burning incense to the idols you have made here in Egypt? You will only destroy yourselves and make yourselves an object of cursing and mockery for all the nations of the earth.
  • Deuteronomy 13:6 - “Suppose someone secretly entices you—even your brother, your son or daughter, your beloved wife, or your closest friend—and says, ‘Let us go worship other gods’—gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known.
  • Deuteronomy 29:26 - Instead, they turned away to serve and worship gods they had not known before, gods that were not from the Lord.
  • Deuteronomy 32:17 - They offered sacrifices to demons, which are not God, to gods they had not known before, to new gods only recently arrived, to gods their ancestors had never feared.
