  • Genesis 28:13 - The Lord stood beside the stairway. He said, “I am the Lord. I am the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your children after you the land you are lying on.
  • Genesis 28:14 - They will be like the dust of the earth that can’t be counted. They will spread out to the west and to the east. They will spread out to the north and to the south. All nations on earth will be blessed because of you and your children after you.
  • Genesis 28:15 - I am with you. I will watch over you everywhere you go. And I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
  • Genesis 28:16 - Jacob woke up from his sleep. Then he thought, “The Lord is surely in this place. And I didn’t even know it.”
  • Genesis 28:17 - Jacob was afraid. He said, “How holy this place is! This must be the house of God. This is the gate of heaven.”
  • Genesis 28:18 - Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head. He set it up as a sacred stone. And he poured olive oil on top of it.
  • Genesis 28:19 - He named that place Bethel. But the city used to be called Luz.
  • Genesis 28:20 - Then Jacob made a promise. He said, “May God be with me. May he watch over me on this journey I’m taking. May he give me food to eat and clothes to wear.
  • Genesis 28:21 - May he do as he has promised so that I can return safely to my father’s home. Then you, Lord, will be my God.
  • Genesis 28:22 - This stone I’ve set up as a sacred stone will be God’s house. And I’ll give you a tenth of everything you give me.”
  • Genesis 27:41 - Esau was angry with Jacob. He was angry because of the blessing his father had given to Jacob. He said to himself, “The days of sorrow over my father’s death are near. Then I’ll kill my brother Jacob.”
  • Genesis 27:42 - Rebekah was told what her older son Esau had said. So she sent for her younger son Jacob. She said to him, “Your brother Esau is planning to get back at you by killing you.

  • Genesis 27:45 - When he forgets what you did to him, I’ll let you know. Then you can come back from there. Why should I lose both of you in one day?”
  • Genesis 13:3 - Abram left the Negev Desert. He went from place to place until he came to Bethel. Then he came to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had been earlier.
  • Genesis 13:4 - There he called on the name of the Lord at the altar he had built.
  • Genesis 12:8 - From there, Abram went on toward the hills east of Bethel. He set up his tent there. Bethel was to the west, and Ai was to the east. Abram built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord.
  • Psalm 47:4 - He chose our land for us. The people of Jacob are proud of their land, and God loves them.
  • Genesis 16:8 - The angel said, “Hagar, you are Sarai’s slave. Where have you come from? Where are you going?” “I’m running away from my owner Sarai,” she answered.
  • Psalm 46:1 - God is our place of safety. He gives us strength. He is always there to help us in times of trouble.
  • Genesis 22:14 - So Abraham named that place The Lord Will Provide. To this day people say, “It will be provided on the mountain of the Lord.”
  • Genesis 35:7 - Jacob built an altar at Luz. He named the place El Bethel. There God made himself known to Jacob when he was running away from his brother.
  • Genesis 31:3 - Then the Lord spoke to Jacob. He said, “Go back to your father’s land and to your relatives. I will be with you.”
  • Ecclesiastes 5:4 - When you make a promise to God, don’t wait too long to carry it out. He isn’t pleased with foolish people. So do what you have promised.
  • Ecclesiastes 5:5 - It is not good to make a promise and not keep it. It is better to make no promise at all.
  • Ecclesiastes 5:6 - Don’t let your mouth cause you to sin. Don’t say to the temple messenger, “My promise was a mistake.” Why should God be angry with what you say? Why should he destroy what you have done?
  • Psalm 91:15 - He will call out to me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in times of trouble. I will save him and honor him.
  • Hosea 12:4 - At Peniel he struggled with the angel and won. Jacob wept and begged for his blessing. God also met with him at Bethel. He talked with him there.
  • Genesis 31:13 - I am the God of Bethel. That is where you poured olive oil on a sacred stone. There you made a promise to me. Now leave this land. Go back to your own land.’ ”
  • Deuteronomy 32:36 - The Lord will come to the aid of his people. He’ll show tender love to those who serve him. He will know when their strength is gone. He’ll see that no one at all is left.
