The Plot to Kill Jesus
122:1 For ver. 1, 2, see Matt. 26:2-5; Mark 14:1, 2Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called 22:1 See John 6:4the Passover.
2And the chief priests and the scribes 22:2 John 11:53; See Matt. 21:46were seeking how to put him to death, for they feared the people.
Judas to Betray Jesus
322:3 For ver. 3-6, see Matt. 26:14-16; Mark 14:10, 11; [John 13:2, 27, 30] Then 22:3 [Acts 5:3] Satan entered into 22:3 ch. 6:16; Matt. 27:3; Acts 1:16; [John 6:71; 12:4]Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve.
4He went away and conferred with the chief priests and 22:4 Acts 4:1; 5:24, 26officers how he might betray him to them.
5And they were glad, and agreed to give him money.
6So he consented and sought an opportunity to 22:6 See Matt. 20:18, 19betray him to them in the absence of a crowd.
The Passover with the Disciples

9They said to him, “Where will you have us prepare it?”
10He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters
11and tell the master of the house, 22:11 See John 11:28‘The Teacher says to you, Where is 22:11 ch. 2:7 (Gk.)the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’
Institution of the Lord’s Supper

15And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

23And they began to question one another, which of them it could be who was going to do this.
Who Is the Greatest?

Jesus Foretells Peter’s Denial

Scripture Must Be Fulfilled in Jesus

36He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.
37For I tell you that 22:37 [Acts 1:16]; See ch. 13:33; Matt. 1:22this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: 22:37 Cited from Isa. 53:12‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For 22:37 [John 17:4; 19:30]what is written about me has its fulfillment.”
38And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two 22:38 [ver. 49] swords.” And he said to them, 22:38 [Deut. 3:26; Mark 14:41]“It is enough.”
Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives

Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

48but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike 22:49 ver. 38with the sword?”
50And one of them struck the servant22:50 Or bondservant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.
51But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him.
52Then Jesus said to the chief priests and 22:52 See ver. 4officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?
53When 22:53 [John 8:2]; [ch. 2:46; John 18:20] I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is 22:53 [Mark 14:35, 41; John 12:27; 16:4] your hour, and 22:53 Eph. 6:12; [Acts 26:18]the power of darkness.”
Peter Denies Jesus

58And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.”
59And after an interval of about an hour still another 22:59 Acts 12:15insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.”
60But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.
61And the Lord turned and 22:61 See Mark 10:21looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, 22:61 ver. 34“Before the rooster crows today, you will 22:61 [Acts 3:13, 14]deny me three times.”
62And he went out and wept bitterly.
Jesus Is Mocked
6322:63 [Matt. 26:67, 68; Mark 14:65; John 18:22, 23]Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him.
6422:64 [See ver. 63above] They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, 22:64 [ch. 7:39]“Prophesy! 22:64 [ch. 7:39]Who is it that struck you?”
65And they said many other things against him, 22:65 See Matt. 27:39blaspheming him.
Jesus Before the Council

70So they all said, “Are you 22:70 See Matt. 14:33the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, 22:70 ch. 23:3; Matt. 27:11; Mark 15:2; [Matt. 26:25]“You say that I am.”
71Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.”
