Hosea5

Punishment Coming for Israel and Judah
15:1 ch. 4:1; Joel 1:2; Amos 3:1; Mic. 1:2Hear this, O priests!
Pay attention, O house of Israel!
Give ear, O house of the king!
For the judgment is for you;
for 5:1 [ch. 6:9; 9:8] you have been a snare at Mizpah
and a net spread upon 5:1 Judg. 4:6Tabor.
2And 5:2 [ch. 9:15] the revolters 5:2 [ch. 9:9; Isa. 29:15] have gone deep into slaughter,
but 5:2 [Ps. 50:21]I will discipline all of them.

35:3 [Amos 3:2; 5:12]I know Ephraim,
and Israel is not hidden from me;
for now, O Ephraim, you have played the whore;
Israel is defiled.
45:4 [Isa. 59:2] Their deeds do not permit them
to return to their God.
For 5:4 ch. 4:12the spirit of whoredom is within them,
and they know not the Lord.

55:5 ch. 7:10The pride of Israel testifies to his face;5:5 Or in his presence
Israel and 5:5 See ch. 6:4Ephraim shall stumble in his guilt;
5:5 See ch. 6:4Judah also shall stumble with them.
65:6 ch. 6:6; Isa. 1:11With their flocks and herds they shall go
to seek the Lord,
5:6 ch. 6:6; Isa. 1:11but they will not find him;
5:6 ch. 9:12he has withdrawn from them.
75:7 ch. 6:7They have dealt faithlessly with the Lord;
for they have borne alien children.
Now the new moon shall devour them with their fields.

85:8 ch. 8:1; Jer. 4:5Blow the horn in 5:8 ch. 9:9; 10:9Gibeah,
the trumpet in 5:8 Josh. 18:25Ramah.
Sound the alarm at 5:8 See ch. 4:15Beth-aven;
we follow you,5:8 Or after you O Benjamin!
9Ephraim shall become a desolation
in the day of punishment;
among the tribes of Israel
I make known what is sure.
10The princes of Judah have become
like 5:10 Deut. 19:14those who move the landmark;
upon them I will pour out
my wrath like water.
11Ephraim is 5:11 Deut. 28:33; Amos 4:1oppressed, crushed in judgment,
because he was determined to go after filth.5:11 Or to follow human precepts
12But I am 5:12 [Job 13:28]like a moth to Ephraim,
and 5:12 [Job 13:28]like dry rot to the house of Judah.

13When Ephraim saw his sickness,
and Judah 5:13 [Isa. 1:5, 6] his wound,
then Ephraim went 5:13 ch. 7:11; 8:9; 12:1; 2 Kgs. 15:19to Assyria,
and sent to the great king.5:13 Or to King Jareb
5:13 ch. 14:3But he is not able to cure you
or heal 5:13 [Isa. 1:5, 6] your wound.
14For I will be 5:14 ch. 13:7like a lion to 5:14 See ch. 6:4Ephraim,
and like a young lion to the house of 5:14 See ch. 6:4Judah.
5:14 [Mic. 5:8]I, even I, will tear and go away;
I will carry off, and no one shall rescue.

155:15 [Jer. 29:10-12; Ezek. 6:9]; See Lev. 26:40-42I will return again to my place,
until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face,
and 5:15 Isa. 26:16in their distress earnestly seek me.
