Daniel’s Terrifying Vision of a Man
110:1 [ch. 1:21]; See ch. 6:28In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a word was revealed to Daniel, 10:1 See ch. 1:7who was named Belteshazzar. And 10:1 [ch. 8:26] the word was true, and it was a great conflict.10:1 Or and it was about a great conflict And 10:1 See ch. 1:17he understood the word and 10:1 See ch. 1:17had understanding of the vision.
2In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for 10:2 [ver. 13]three weeks.
3I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I 10:3 [Amos 6:6; Matt. 6:17] anoint myself at all, for 10:3 [See ver. 2above]the full three weeks.
4On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing 10:4 [ch. 12:5] on the bank of the great river (10:4 Gen. 2:14that is, the Tigris)
510:5 [Josh. 5:13] I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, 10:5 Ezek. 9:2a man clothed in linen, 10:5 [Rev. 1:13; 15:6] with a belt of fine 10:5 Jer. 10:9gold from Uphaz around his waist.
6His body was like 10:6 [Ezek. 1:16; 10:9] beryl, his face 10:6 Ezek. 1:14; Matt. 28:3like the appearance of lightning, 10:6 Rev. 1:14his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and 10:6 Rev. 1:15legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and 10:6 Rev. 1:15the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude.
710:7 [Acts 9:7]And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves.
8So I was left alone and saw this great vision, and 10:8 [ch. 7:28] no strength was left in me. My radiant appearance was fearfully changed,10:8 Hebrew My splendor was changed to ruin10:8 ver. 16and I retained no strength.
9Then I heard the sound of his words, 10:9 ch. 8:18and as I heard the sound of his words, I fell on my face in deep sleep 10:9 ch. 8:18with my face to the ground.
10And behold, 10:10 See Ezek. 2:9a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees.
11And he said to me, “O Daniel, 10:11 ver. 19; ch. 9:23man greatly loved, 10:11 See ch. 1:17understand the words that I speak to you, and 10:11 Ezek. 2:1stand upright, for 10:11 [Heb. 1:14]now I have been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling.
12Then he said to me, 10:12 ver. 19; [Judg. 6:23; Rev. 1:17] “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you 10:12 [ch. 9:3] set your heart to understand and 10:12 [ch. 9:3] humbled yourself before your God, 10:12 [Acts 10:4] your words have been heard, 10:12 [ch. 9:23]and I have come because of your words.
1310:13 ver. 20The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me 10:13 [ver. 2, 3] twenty-one days, but 10:13 ver. 21; ch. 12:1; Jude 9; Rev. 12:7Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia,
1410:14 [See ver. 12above] and came to make you understand what is to happen to your people 10:14 ch. 2:28in the latter days. For 10:14 ch. 8:26; [Hab. 2:3]the vision is for days yet to come.”
15When he had spoken to me according to these words, 10:15 ver. 9; ch. 8:18I turned my face toward the ground 10:15 Ps. 39:2, 9and was mute.
16And behold, 10:16 See ch. 8:15one in the likeness of the children of man 10:16 Isa. 6:7touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke. I said to him who stood before me, “O my lord, by reason of the vision pains have come upon me, and 10:16 ver. 8I retain no strength.
17How can my lord’s servant talk with my lord? For now no strength remains in me, and no breath is left in me.”
18Again 10:18 [See ver. 16above] one having the appearance of a man 10:18 [See ver. 16above]touched me and strengthened me.
19And he said, 10:19 ver. 11; ch. 9:23“O man greatly loved, 10:19 See ver. 12fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage.” And as he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”
20Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? But now I will return to fight against the 10:20 ver. 13prince of Persia; and when I go out, behold, the prince of 10:20 ch. 8:21Greece will come.
21But I will tell you 10:21 ch. 12:1, 4; [Ex. 32:32] what is inscribed in the book of truth: there is none who contends by my side against these except 10:21 See ver. 13Michael, your prince.
