Therefore, as surely as I live,” declares the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel,“ surely Moab will become like Sodom, the Ammonites like Gomorrah— a place of weeds and salt pits, a wasteland forever. The remnant of my people will plunder them; the survivors of my nation will inherit their land.”

So Moab will become like Sodom,” announces the Lord who rules over all.“ Ammon will be like Gomorrah. Weeds and salt pits will cover those countries. They will be dry and empty deserts forever. Those who are still left alive among my people will take all their valuable things. So they will receive those lands as their own. And that is just as sure as I am alive.” The Lord is the God of Israel.

Therefore, as I live,” declares the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,“ Moab shall become like Sodom, and the Ammonites like Gomorrah, a land possessed by nettles and salt pits, and a waste forever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the survivors of my nation shall possess them.”

Now, as surely as I live,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel,“ Moab and Ammon will be destroyed— destroyed as completely as Sodom and Gomorrah. Their land will become a place of stinging nettles, salt pits, and eternal desolation. The remnant of my people will plunder them and take their land.”

Therefore, as I live— this is the declaration of the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel— Moab will be like Sodom and the Ammonites like Gomorrah: a place overgrown with weeds, a salt pit, and a perpetual wasteland. The remnant of my people will plunder them; the remainder of my nation will dispossess them.

Therefore, as I live,” declares the Lord of armies, The God of Israel,“ Moab will assuredly be like Sodom, And the sons of Ammon like Gomorrah— Ground overgrown with weeds and full of salt mines, And a permanent desolation. The remnant of My people will plunder them, And the remainder of My nation will inherit them.”

Therefore as I live, saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall make a prey of them, and the remnant of my nation shall inherit them.

Therefore, as surely as I live,” says the LORD who commands armies, the God of Israel,“ be certain that Moab will become like Sodom and the Ammonites like Gomorrah. They will be overrun by weeds, filled with salt pits, and permanently desolate. Those of my people who are left will plunder their belongings; those who are left in Judah will take possession of their land.”

Therefore as I live, says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, surely Moab will be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles, and salt pits, and a perpetual desolation. The remnant of my people will plunder them, and the survivors of my nation will inherit them.

The burden against Moab. For by the Ascent of Luhith They will go up with weeping; For in the way of Horonaim They will raise up a cry of destruction,For the waters of Nimrim will be desolate, For the green grass has withered away; The grass fails, there is nothing green.Therefore the abundance they have gained, And what they have laid up, They will carry away to the Brook of the Willows.For the cry has gone all around the borders of Moab, Its wailing to Eglaim And its wailing to Beer Elim.For the waters of Dimon will be full of blood; Because I will bring more upon Dimon, Lions upon him who escapes from Moab, And on the remnant of the land.”

But they shall fly down upon the shoulder of the Philistines toward the west; Together they shall plunder the people of the East; They shall lay their hand on Edom and Moab; And the people of Ammon shall obey them.

‘ The whole land is brimstone, salt, and burning; it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor does any grass grow there, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in His anger and His wrath.’

Lift up your eyes, look around and see; All these gather together and come to you. As I live,” says the Lord,“ You shall surely clothe yourselves with them all as an ornament, And bind them on you as a bride does.

Against Moab. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:“ Woe to Nebo! For it is plundered, Kirjathaim is shamed and taken; The high stronghold is shamed and dismayed—No more praise of Moab. In Heshbon they have devised evil against her:‘ Come, and let us cut her off as a nation.’ You also shall be cut down, O Madmen! The sword shall pursue you;A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim:‘ Plundering and great destruction!’“ Moab is destroyed; Her little ones have caused a cry to be heard;For in the Ascent of Luhith they ascend with continual weeping; For in the descent of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.“ Flee, save your lives! And be like the juniper in the wilderness.For because you have trusted in your works and your treasures, You also shall be taken. And Chemosh shall go forth into captivity, His priests and his princes together.And the plunderer shall come against every city; No one shall escape. The valley also shall perish, And the plain shall be destroyed, As the Lord has spoken.“ Give wings to Moab, That she may flee and get away; For her cities shall be desolate, Without any to dwell in them.Cursed is he who does the work of the Lord deceitfully, And cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood.“ Moab has been at ease from his youth; He has settled on his dregs, And has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, Nor has he gone into captivity. Therefore his taste remained in him, And his scent has not changed.“ Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,“ That I shall send him wine-workers Who will tip him over And empty his vessels And break the bottles.Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, As the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, their confidence.“ How can you say,‘ We are mighty And strong men for the war’?Moab is plundered and gone up from her cities; Her chosen young men have gone down to the slaughter,” says the King, Whose name is the Lord of hosts.“ The calamity of Moab is near at hand, And his affliction comes quickly.Bemoan him, all you who are around him; And all you who know his name, Say,‘ How the strong staff is broken, The beautiful rod!’“ O daughter inhabiting Dibon, Come down from your glory, And sit in thirst; For the plunderer of Moab has come against you, He has destroyed your strongholds.O inhabitant of Aroer, Stand by the way and watch; Ask him who flees And her who escapes; Say,‘ What has happened?’Moab is shamed, for he is broken down. Wail and cry! Tell it in Arnon, that Moab is plundered.“ And judgment has come on the plain country: On Holon and Jahzah and Mephaath,On Dibon and Nebo and Beth Diblathaim,On Kirjathaim and Beth Gamul and Beth Meon,On Kerioth and Bozrah, On all the cities of the land of Moab, Far or near.The horn of Moab is cut off, And his arm is broken,” says the Lord.“ Make him drunk, Because he exalted himself against the Lord. I will weep for you with the weeping of Jazer. Your plants have gone over the sea, They reach to the sea of Jazer. The plunderer has fallen on your summer fruit and your vintage.Joy and gladness are taken From the plentiful field And from the land of Moab; I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses; No one will tread with joyous shouting— Not joyous shouting!“ From the cry of Heshbon to Elealeh and to Jahaz They have uttered their voice, From Zoar to Horonaim, Like a three-year-old heifer; For the waters of Nimrim also shall be desolate.“ Moreover,” says the Lord,“ I will cause to cease in Moab The one who offers sacrifices in the high places And burns incense to his gods.Therefore My heart shall wail like flutes for Moab, And like flutes My heart shall wail For the men of Kir Heres. Therefore the riches they have acquired have perished.“ For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped; On all the hands shall be cuts, and on the loins sackcloth—A general lamentation On all the housetops of Moab, And in its streets; For I have broken Moab like a vessel in which is no pleasure,” says the Lord.“ They shall wail:‘ How she is broken down! How Moab has turned her back with shame!’ So Moab shall be a derision And a dismay to all those about her.”For thus says the Lord:“ Behold, one shall fly like an eagle, And spread his wings over Moab.Kerioth is taken, And the strongholds are surprised; The mighty men’s hearts in Moab on that day shall be Like the heart of a woman in birth pangs.And Moab shall be destroyed as a people, Because he exalted himself against the Lord.Fear and the pit and the snare shall be upon you, O inhabitant of Moab,” says the Lord.“ He who flees from the fear shall fall into the pit, And he who gets out of the pit shall be caught in the snare. For upon Moab, upon it I will bring The year of their punishment,” says the Lord.“ Those who fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon Because of exhaustion. But a fire shall come out of Heshbon, A flame from the midst of Sihon, And shall devour the brow of Moab, The crown of the head of the sons of tumult.Woe to you, O Moab! The people of Chemosh perish; For your sons have been taken captive, And your daughters captive.“ Yet I will bring back the captives of Moab In the latter days,” says the Lord. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.Against the Ammonites. Thus says the Lord:“ Has Israel no sons? Has he no heir? Why then does Milcom inherit Gad, And his people dwell in its cities?Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,“ That I will cause to be heard an alarm of war In Rabbah of the Ammonites; It shall be a desolate mound, And her villages shall be burned with fire. Then Israel shall take possession of his inheritance,” says the Lord.“ Wail, O Heshbon, for Ai is plundered! Cry, you daughters of Rabbah, Gird yourselves with sackcloth! Lament and run to and fro by the walls; For Milcom shall go into captivity With his priests and his princes together.Why do you boast in the valleys, Your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? Who trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come against me?’Behold, I will bring fear upon you,” Says the Lord GOD of hosts,“ From all those who are around you; You shall be driven out, everyone headlong, And no one will gather those who wander off.But afterward I will bring back The captives of the people of Ammon,” says the Lord.

For on this mountain the hand of the Lord will rest, And Moab shall be trampled down under Him, As straw is trampled down for the refuse heap.

“ As I live,” says the King, Whose name is the Lord of hosts,“ Surely as Tabor is among the mountains And as Carmel by the sea, so he shall come.

“ Egypt shall be a desolation, And Edom a desolate wilderness, Because of violence against the people of Judah, For they have shed innocent blood in their land.But Judah shall abide forever, And Jerusalem from generation to generation.

Its streams shall be turned into pitch, And its dust into brimstone; Its land shall become burning pitch.It shall not be quenched night or day; Its smoke shall ascend forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; No one shall pass through it forever and ever.But the pelican and the porcupine shall possess it, Also the owl and the raven shall dwell in it. And He shall stretch out over it The line of confusion and the stones of emptiness.They shall call its nobles to the kingdom, But none shall be there, and all its princes shall be nothing.And thorns shall come up in its palaces, Nettles and brambles in its fortresses; It shall be a habitation of jackals, A courtyard for ostriches.

The coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; They shall feed their flocks there; In the houses of Ashkelon they shall lie down at evening. For the Lord their God will intervene for them, And return their captives.

but truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord—

As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah And their neighbors,” says the Lord,“ So no one shall reside there, Nor son of man dwell in it.

The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness And speak no lies, Nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth; For they shall feed their flocks and lie down, And no one shall make them afraid.”

For it is written:“ As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.”

Then the remnant of Jacob Shall be in the midst of many peoples, Like dew from the Lord, Like showers on the grass, That tarry for no man Nor wait for the sons of men.And the remnant of Jacob Shall be among the Gentiles, In the midst of many peoples, Like a lion among the beasts of the forest, Like a young lion among flocks of sheep, Who, if he passes through, Both treads down and tears in pieces, And none can deliver.

Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of the people of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because they ripped open the women with child in Gilead, That they might enlarge their territory.But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, And it shall devour its palaces, Amid shouting in the day of battle, And a tempest in the day of the whirlwind.Their king shall go into captivity, He and his princes together,” Says the Lord.Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.But I will send a fire upon Moab, And it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth; Moab shall die with tumult, With shouting and trumpet sound.And I will cut off the judge from its midst, And slay all its princes with him,” Says the Lord.

Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens.So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.

The herds shall lie down in her midst, Every beast of the nation. Both the pelican and the bittern Shall lodge on the capitals of her pillars; Their voice shall sing in the windows; Desolation shall be at the threshold; For He will lay bare the cedar work.

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, The beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, Will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.It will never be inhabited, Nor will it be settled from generation to generation; Nor will the Arabian pitch tents there, Nor will the shepherds make their sheepfolds there.

As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah And their neighbors,” says the Lord,“ No one shall remain there, Nor shall a son of man dwell in it.

The word of the Lord came to me, saying,“ Son of man, set your face against the Ammonites, and prophesy against them.Say to the Ammonites,‘ Hear the word of the Lord God! Thus says the Lord God:“ Because you said,‘ Aha!’ against My sanctuary when it was profaned, and against the land of Israel when it was desolate, and against the house of Judah when they went into captivity,indeed, therefore, I will deliver you as a possession to the men of the East, and they shall set their encampments among you and make their dwellings among you; they shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk.And I will make Rabbah a stable for camels and Ammon a resting place for flocks. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.”‘ For thus says the Lord God:“ Because you clapped your hands, stamped your feet, and rejoiced in heart with all your disdain for the land of Israel,indeed, therefore, I will stretch out My hand against you, and give you as plunder to the nations; I will cut you off from the peoples, and I will cause you to perish from the countries; I will destroy you, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”‘ Thus says the Lord God:“ Because Moab and Seir say,‘ Look! The house of Judah is like all the nations,’therefore, behold, I will clear the territory of Moab of cities, of the cities on its frontier, the glory of the country, Beth Jeshimoth, Baal Meon, and Kirjathaim.To the men of the East I will give it as a possession, together with the Ammonites, that the Ammonites may not be remembered among the nations.And I will execute judgments upon Moab, and they shall know that I am the Lord.”‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ Because of what Edom did against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended by avenging itself on them,”therefore thus says the Lord GOD:“ I will also stretch out My hand against Edom, cut off man and beast from it, and make it desolate from Teman; Dedan shall fall by the sword.I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel, that they may do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance,” says the Lord GOD.‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ Because the Philistines dealt vengefully and took vengeance with a spiteful heart, to destroy because of the old hatred,”therefore thus says the Lord GOD:“ I will stretch out My hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites and destroy the remnant of the seacoast.I will execute great vengeance on them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I lay My vengeance upon them.”’”
