A people who come from several nations will take over Ashdod. The Lord says,“ I will put an end to the pride of the Philistines.

Foreigners will occupy the city of Ashdod. I will destroy the pride of the Philistines.

And a people of mixed origins will live in Ashdod, And I will eliminate the pride of the Philistines.

“ A mixed race shall settle in Ashdod, And I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt, and glorify the King of heaven, because all His works are true and His ways are just. He is able to humble those who walk in pride.

This is what they get for their pride, because they have taunted and acted arrogantly against the people of the Lord of Hosts.

For a day belonging to the Lord of Hosts is coming against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up— it will be humbled—against all the cedars of Lebanon, lofty and lifted up, against all the oaks of Bashan,against all the high mountains, against all the lofty hills,against every high tower, against every fortified wall,against every ship of Tarshish, and against every splendid sea vessel.So human pride will be brought low, and the loftiness of men will be humbled; the Lord alone will be exalted on that day.

God gives a man riches, wealth, and honor so that he lacks nothing of all he desires for himself, but God does not allow him to enjoy them. Instead, a stranger will enjoy them. This is futile and a sickening tragedy.

In the same way, you younger men, be subject to the elders. And all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

I hated all my work that I labored at under the sun because I must leave it to the man who comes after me.And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will take over all my work that I labored at skillfully under the sun. This too is futile.So I began to give myself over to despair concerning all my work that I had labored at under the sun.When there is a man whose work was done with wisdom, knowledge, and skill, and he must give his portion to a man who has not worked for it, this too is futile and a great wrong.

The Lord of Hosts planned it, to desecrate all its glorious beauty, to disgrace all the honored ones of the earth.

Woe to the majestic crown of Ephraim’s drunkards, and to the fading flower of its beautiful splendor, which is on the summit above the rich valley. Woe to those overcome with wine.
