A revelation. Yahweh’s word is against the land of Hadrach, and will rest upon Damascus; for the eye of man and of all the tribes of Israel is toward Yahweh;

This is what the Lord says:“ For three sins of Damascus, even for four, I will not relent. Because she threshed Gilead with sledges having iron teeth,I will send fire on the house of Hazael that will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.I will break down the gate of Damascus; I will destroy the king who is in the Valley of Aven and the one who holds the scepter in Beth Eden. The people of Aram will go into exile to Kir,” says the Lord.

Concerning Damascus:“ Hamath and Arpad are dismayed, for they have heard bad news. They are disheartened, troubled like the restless sea.Damascus has become feeble, she has turned to flee and panic has gripped her; anguish and pain have seized her, pain like that of a woman in labor.Why has the city of renown not been abandoned, the town in which I delight?Surely, her young men will fall in the streets; all her soldiers will be silenced in that day,” declares the Lord Almighty.“ I will set fire to the walls of Damascus; it will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.”

My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare.

Lord, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say,“ Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods, worthless idols that did them no good.

The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time.

“ When these people, or a prophet or a priest, ask you,‘ What is the message from the Lord?’ say to them,‘ What message? I will forsake you, declares the Lord.’If a prophet or a priest or anyone else claims,‘ This is a message from the Lord,’ I will punish them and their household.This is what each of you keeps saying to your friends and other Israelites:‘ What is the Lord’s answer?’ or‘ What has the Lord spoken?’But you must not mention‘ a message from the Lord’ again, because each one’s word becomes their own message. So you distort the words of the living God, the Lord Almighty, our God.This is what you keep saying to a prophet:‘ What is the Lord’s answer to you?’ or‘ What has the Lord spoken?’Although you claim,‘ This is a message from the Lord,’ this is what the Lord says: You used the words,‘ This is a message from the Lord,’ even though I told you that you must not claim,‘ This is a message from the Lord.’

“ Gather together and come; assemble, you fugitives from the nations. Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood, who pray to gods that cannot save.Declare what is to be, present it— let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me.“ Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.

In that day people will look to their Maker and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.They will not look to the altars, the work of their hands, and they will have no regard for the Asherah poles and the incense altars their fingers have made.

and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say,‘ Let us go at once to entreat the Lord and seek the Lord Almighty. I myself am going.’And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the Lord Almighty and to entreat him.”This is what the Lord Almighty says:“ In those days ten people from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say,‘ Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.’”

A prophecy against Damascus:“ See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins.The cities of Aroer will be deserted and left to flocks, which will lie down, with no one to make them afraid.The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, and royal power from Damascus; the remnant of Aram will be like the glory of the Israelites,” declares the Lord Almighty.

The Lord has sent a message against Jacob; it will fall on Israel.All the people will know it— Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria— who say with pride and arrogance of heart,“ The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed stone; the fig trees have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.”But the Lord has strengthened Rezin’s foes against them and has spurred their enemies on.Arameans from the east and Philistines from the west have devoured Israel with open mouth. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.But the people have not returned to him who struck them, nor have they sought the Lord Almighty.So the Lord will cut off from Israel both head and tail, both palm branch and reed in a single day;the elders and dignitaries are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail.Those who guide this people mislead them, and those who are guided are led astray.Therefore the Lord will take no pleasure in the young men, nor will he pity the fatherless and widows, for everyone is ungodly and wicked, every mouth speaks folly. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.Surely wickedness burns like a fire; it consumes briers and thorns, it sets the forest thickets ablaze, so that it rolls upward in a column of smoke.By the wrath of the Lord Almighty the land will be scorched and the people will be fuel for the fire; they will not spare one another.On the right they will devour, but still be hungry; on the left they will eat, but not be satisfied. Each will feed on the flesh of their own offspring:Manasseh will feed on Ephraim, and Ephraim on Manasseh; together they will turn against Judah. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.

A prophecy against Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz saw:

This is what the Lord says:“ As a shepherd rescues from the lion’s mouth only two leg bones or a piece of an ear, so will the Israelites living in Samaria be rescued, with only the head of a bed and a piece of fabric from a couch.”

The Lord Almighty declares,‘ I will send it out, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of anyone who swears falsely by my name. It will remain in that house and destroy it completely, both its timbers and its stones.’”

During the night Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.

The Lord will lay bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.

Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
