This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because they threshed Gilead with iron sledges.So I will send fire upon the house of Hazael, And it will consume the citadels of Ben hadad.I will also break the gate bar of Damascus, And eliminate every inhabitant from the Valley of Aven, As well as him who holds the scepter, from Beth eden; So the people of Aram will be exiled to Kir,” Says the Lord.

Concerning Damascus:“ Hamath and Arpad are put to shame, For they have heard bad news; They despair. There is anxiety at the sea, It cannot be calmed.Damascus has become helpless; She has turned away to flee, And panic has gripped her; Distress and labor pains have seized her Like a woman in childbirth.How the city of praise has not been deserted, The town of My joy!Therefore, her young men will fall in her streets, And all the men of war will perish on that day,” declares the Lord of armies.“ I will set fire to the wall of Damascus, And it will devour the fortified palace of Ben hadad.”

My eyes are continually toward the Lord, For He will rescue my feet from the net.

Lord, my strength and my stronghold, And my refuge in the day of distress, To You the nations will come From the ends of the earth and say,“ Our fathers have inherited nothing but falsehood, Futility, and things of no benefit.”

The eyes of all look to You, And You give them their food in due time.

“ Now when this people or the prophet or a priest asks you, saying,‘ What is the pronouncement of the Lord?’ then you shall say to them,‘ What pronouncement?’ The Lord declares,‘ I will abandon you.’Then as for the prophet or the priest or the people who say,‘ The pronouncement of the Lord,’ I will bring punishment upon that person and his household.This is what each one of you will say to his neighbor and to his brother:‘ What has the Lord answered?’ or,‘ What has the Lord spoken?’For you will no longer remember the pronouncement of the Lord, because every person’s own word will become the pronouncement, and you have perverted the words of the living God, the Lord of armies, our God.This is what you will say to that prophet:‘ What has the Lord answered you?’ and,‘ What has the Lord spoken?’And if you say,‘ The pronouncement of the Lord!’ for that reason the Lord says this:‘ Because you said this word,“ The pronouncement of the Lord!” I have also sent word to you, saying,“ You shall not say,‘ The pronouncement of the Lord!’ ” ’

“ Gather yourselves and come; Come together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge, Who carry around their wooden idol And pray to a god who cannot save.Declare and present your case; Indeed, let them consult together. Who has announced this long ago? Who has long since declared it? Is it not I, the Lord? And there is no other God besides Me, A righteous God and a Savior; There is none except Me.Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other.

On that day man will look to his Maker And his eyes will look to the Holy One of Israel.And he will not look to the altars, the work of his hands, Nor will he look to that which his fingers have made, Even the Asherim and incense altars.

The inhabitants of one city will go to another, saying,“ Let’s go at once to plead for the favor of the Lord, and to seek the Lord of armies; I also will go.”So many peoples and mighty nations will come to seek the Lord of armies in Jerusalem, and to plead for the favor of the Lord.’The Lord of armies says this:‘ In those days ten people from all the nations will grasp the garment of a Jew, saying,“ Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” ’ ”

The pronouncement concerning Damascus:“ Behold, Damascus is about to be removed from being a city And will become a fallen ruin.The cities of Aroer are abandoned; They will be for herds to lie down in, And there will be no one to frighten them.The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, And sovereignty from Damascus And the remnant of Aram; They will be like the glory of the sons of Israel,” Declares the Lord of armies.

The Lord sends a message against Jacob, And it falls on Israel.And all the people know it, That is, Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, Asserting in pride and in arrogance of heart:“ The bricks have fallen down, But we will rebuild with smooth stones; The sycamores have been cut down, But we will replace them with cedars.”Therefore the Lord raises superior adversaries against them from Rezin And provokes their enemies,The Arameans from the east and the Philistines from the west; And they devour Israel with gaping jaws. In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away, And His hand is still stretched out.Yet the people do not turn back to Him who struck them, Nor do they seek the Lord of armies.So the Lord cuts off head and tail from Israel, Both palm branch and bulrush in a single day.The head is the elder and esteemed man, And the prophet who teaches falsehood is the tail.For those who guide this people are leading them astray; And those who are guided by them are confused.Therefore the Lord does not rejoice over their young men, Nor does He have compassion on their orphans or their widows; For every one of them is godless and an evildoer, And every mouth is speaking foolishness. In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away, And His hand is still stretched out.For wickedness burns like a fire; It consumes briars and thorns; It also sets the thickets of the forest aflame And they roll upward in a column of smoke.By the wrath of the Lord of armies the land is burned, And the people are like fuel for the fire; No one spares his brother.They devour what is on the right hand but are still hungry, And they eat what is on the left hand, but they are not satisfied; Each of them eats the flesh of his own arm.Manasseh devours Ephraim, and Ephraim Manasseh, And together they are against Judah. In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away And His hand is still stretched out.

The pronouncement concerning Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw:

This is what the Lord says:“ Just as the shepherd snatches from the lion’s mouth a couple of legs or a piece of an ear, So will the sons of Israel living in Samaria be snatched away— With the corner of a bed and the cover of a couch!

I will make it go forth,” declares the Lord of armies,“ and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name; and it will spend the night within that house and destroy it with its timber and stones.”

Then he divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus.

The Lord has bared His holy arm In the sight of all the nations, So that all the ends of the earth may see The salvation of our God.

The pronouncement of the word of the Lord to Israel through Malachi:

Our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”
