The speaker went on to say,“ This is a curse traveling across the whole earth. For example, according to the curse whoever steals will be removed from the community; or on the other hand( according to the curse) whoever swears falsely will suffer the same fate.”

彼曰、此乃呪詛、遍行斯土、凡盜竊者、必按卷此面之文而見絕、凡妄誓者、必按卷彼面之文而見絕、

天使曰、此咒詛之詞、遍行天下、凡盜竊者、必殲滅於左、凡妄誓者、必殲滅於右、俱循此言。

And he said to me,“ This is the curse that is going out over the whole land; for according to what it says on one side, every thief will be banished, and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely will be banished.

He said to me,“ A curse sent by the Lord is written on it. It is going out over the whole land. Every thief will be driven out of the land. That is what it says on one side of the scroll. Everyone who lies when promising to tell the truth will also be driven out. That is what it says on the other side.

Then he said to me,“ This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole land. For everyone who steals shall be cleaned out according to what is on one side, and everyone who swears falsely shall be cleaned out according to what is on the other side.

Then he said to me,“ This scroll contains the curse that is going out over the entire land. One side of the scroll says that those who steal will be banished from the land; the other side says that those who swear falsely will be banished from the land.

Then he said to me,“ This is the curse that is going out over the whole land, for everyone who is a thief, contrary to what is written on one side, has gone unpunished, and everyone who swears falsely, contrary to what is written on the other side, has gone unpunished.

Then he said to me,“ This is the curse that is going forth over the face of the entire land; everyone who steals certainly will be purged away according to the writing on one side, and everyone who swears falsely will be purged away according to the writing on the other side.

Then he said to me,“ This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole earth:‘ Every thief shall be expelled,’ according to this side of the scroll; and,‘ Every perjurer shall be expelled,’ according to that side of it.”

Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole land: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off on the one side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off on the other side according to it.

Then he said to me,“ This is the curse that is going out over the whole land, for every thief will be removed according to what is written on one side, and everyone who swears falsely will be removed according to what is written on the other side.

Then said he unto me, This[ is] the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off[ as] on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off[ as] on that side according to it.

Then he said to me,“ This is the curse that goes out over the surface of the whole land; for everyone who steals shall be cut off according to it on the one side; and everyone who swears falsely shall be cut off according to it on the other side.

“ You shall not steal.

So a treaty curse devours the earth; its inhabitants pay for their guilt. This is why the inhabitants of the earth disappear, and are reduced to just a handful of people.

So I defiled your holy princes, and handed Jacob over to destruction, and subjected Israel to humiliating abuse.”

Listen to this, O family of Jacob, you who are called by the name‘ Israel,’ and are descended from Judah, who take oaths in the name of the LORD, and invoke the God of Israel– but not in an honest and just manner.

He will encourage fathers and their children to return to me, so that I will not come and strike the earth with judgment.”

You must not swear falsely in my name, so that you do not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD.

“ I will send it out,” says the LORD who rules over all,“ and it will enter the house of the thief and of the person who swears falsely in my name. It will land in the middle of his house and destroy both timber and stones.”

These people make promises in the name of the LORD. But the fact is, what they swear to is really a lie.”

If you do not obey me, then I will do to this temple what I did to Shiloh. And I will make this city an example to be used in curses by people from all the nations on the earth.’”

and the curse if you pay no attention to his commandments and turn from the way I am setting before you today to pursue other gods you have not known.When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are to possess, you must pronounce the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.

Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the sexually immoral, and the murderers, and the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood!

lest I become satisfied and act deceptively and say,“ Who is the LORD?” Or lest I become poor and steal and demean the name of my God.

‘ Cursed is the one who makes a carved or metal image– something abhorrent to the LORD, the work of the craftsman– and sets it up in a secret place.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who disrespects his father and mother.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who moves his neighbor’s boundary marker.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who misleads a blind person on the road.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who perverts justice for the resident foreigner, the orphan, and the widow.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his father’s former wife, for he dishonors his father.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who commits bestiality.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his sister, the daughter of either his father or mother.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his mother-in-law.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who kills his neighbor in private.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who refuses to keep the words of this law.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’

But to the cowards, unbelievers, detestable persons, murderers, the sexually immoral, and those who practice magic spells, idol worshipers, and all those who lie, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. That is the second death.”

For all who rely on doing the works of the law are under a curse, because it is written,“ Cursed is everyone who does not keep on doing everything written in the book of the law.”Now it is clear no one is justified before God by the law, because the righteous one will live by faith.But the law is not based on faith, but the one who does the works of the law will live by them.Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us( because it is written,“ Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”)

Do not plan evil in your hearts against one another. Do not favor a false oath– these are all things that I hate,’ says the LORD.”

realizing that law is not intended for a righteous person, but for lawless and rebellious people, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,

He took one from the royal family, made a treaty with him, and put him under oath. He then took the leaders of the landso it would be a lowly kingdom which could not rise on its own but must keep its treaty with him in order to stand.But this one from Israel’s royal family rebelled against the king of Babylon by sending his emissaries to Egypt to obtain horses and a large army. Will he prosper? Will the one doing these things escape? Can he break the covenant and escape?“‘ As surely as I live, declares the sovereign LORD, surely in the city of the king who crowned him, whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke– in the middle of Babylon he will die!

Look, the pay you have held back from the workers who mowed your fields cries out against you, and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts.

The LORD’s curse is on the household of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous.

There is only cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and adultery. They resort to violence and bloodshed.

“ Then he will say to those on his left,‘ Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels!

You steal. You murder. You commit adultery. You lie when you swear on oath. You sacrifice to the god Baal. You pay allegiance to other gods whom you have not previously known.

The fact that you have lawsuits among yourselves demonstrates that you have already been defeated. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?But you yourselves wrong and cheat, and you do this to your brothers and sisters!Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals,

“ I will come to you in judgment. I will be quick to testify against those who practice divination, those who commit adultery, those who break promises, and those who exploit workers, widows, and orphans, who refuse to help the immigrant and in this way show they do not fear me,” says the LORD who rules over all.

Can a person rob God? You indeed are robbing me, but you say,‘ How are we robbing you?’ In tithes and contributions!You are bound for judgment because you are robbing me– this whole nation is guilty.“ Bring the entire tithe into the storehouse so that there may be food in my temple. Test me in this matter,” says the LORD who rules over all,“ to see if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until there is no room for it all.

“ But if you ignore the LORD your God and are not careful to keep all his commandments and statutes I am giving you today, then all these curses will come upon you in full force:You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the field.Your basket and your mixing bowl will be cursed.Your children will be cursed, as well as the produce of your soil, the calves of your herds, and the lambs of your flocks.You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out.“ The LORD will send on you a curse, confusing you and opposing you in everything you undertake until you are destroyed and quickly perish because of the evil of your deeds, in that you have forsaken me.The LORD will plague you with deadly diseases until he has completely removed you from the land you are about to possess.He will afflict you with weakness, fever, inflammation, infection, sword, blight, and mildew; these will attack you until you perish.The sky above your heads will be bronze and the earth beneath you iron.The LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust; it will come down on you from the sky until you are destroyed.“ The LORD will allow you to be struck down before your enemies; you will attack them from one direction but flee from them in seven directions and will become an object of terror to all the kingdoms of the earth.Your carcasses will be food for every bird of the sky and wild animal of the earth, and there will be no one to chase them off.The LORD will afflict you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors, eczema, and scabies, all of which cannot be healed.The LORD will also subject you to madness, blindness, and confusion of mind.You will feel your way along at noon like the blind person does in darkness and you will not succeed in anything you do; you will be constantly oppressed and continually robbed, with no one to save you.You will be engaged to a woman and another man will rape her. You will build a house but not live in it. You will plant a vineyard but not even begin to use it.Your ox will be slaughtered before your very eyes but you will not eat of it. Your donkey will be stolen from you as you watch and will not be returned to you. Your flock of sheep will be given to your enemies and there will be no one to save you.Your sons and daughters will be given to another people while you look on in vain all day, and you will be powerless to do anything about it.As for the produce of your land and all your labor, a people you do not know will consume it, and you will be nothing but oppressed and crushed for the rest of your lives.You will go insane from seeing all this.The LORD will afflict you in your knees and on your legs with painful, incurable boils– from the soles of your feet to the top of your head.The LORD will force you and your king whom you will appoint over you to go away to a people whom you and your ancestors have not known, and you will serve other gods of wood and stone there.You will become an occasion of horror, a proverb, and an object of ridicule to all the peoples to whom the LORD will drive you.“ You will take much seed to the field but gather little harvest, because locusts will consume it.You will plant vineyards and cultivate them, but you will not drink wine or gather in grapes, because worms will eat them.You will have olive trees throughout your territory but you will not anoint yourself with olive oil, because the olives will drop off the trees while still unripe.You will bear sons and daughters but not keep them, because they will be taken into captivity.Whirring locusts will take over every tree and all the produce of your soil.The foreigners who reside among you will become higher and higher over you and you will become lower and lower.They will lend to you but you will not lend to them; they will become the head and you will become the tail!All these curses will fall on you, pursuing and overtaking you until you are destroyed, because you would not obey the LORD your God by keeping his commandments and statutes that he has given you.These curses will be a perpetual sign and wonder with reference to you and your descendants.“ Because you have not served the LORD your God joyfully and wholeheartedly with the abundance of everything you have,instead in hunger, thirst, nakedness, and poverty you will serve your enemies whom the LORD will send against you. They will place an iron yoke on your neck until they have destroyed you.The LORD will raise up a distant nation against you, one from the other side of the earth as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand,a nation of stern appearance that will have no regard for the elderly or pity for the young.They will devour the offspring of your livestock and the produce of your soil until you are destroyed. They will not leave you with any grain, new wine, olive oil, calves of your herds, or lambs of your flocks until they have destroyed you.They will besiege all of your villages until all of your high and fortified walls collapse– those in which you put your confidence throughout the land. They will besiege all your villages throughout the land the LORD your God has given you.You will then eat your own offspring, the flesh of the sons and daughters the LORD your God has given you, because of the severity of the siege by which your enemies will constrict you.The man among you who is by nature tender and sensitive will turn against his brother, his beloved wife, and his remaining children.He will withhold from all of them his children’s flesh that he is eating( since there is nothing else left), because of the severity of the siege by which your enemy will constrict you in your villages.Likewise, the most tender and delicate of your women, who would never think of putting even the sole of her foot on the ground because of her daintiness, will turn against her beloved husband, her sons and daughters,and will secretly eat her afterbirth and her newborn children( since she has nothing else), because of the severity of the siege by which your enemy will constrict you in your villages.“ If you refuse to obey all the words of this law, the things written in this scroll, and refuse to fear this glorious and awesome name, the LORD your God,then the LORD will increase your punishments and those of your descendants– great and long-lasting afflictions and severe, enduring illnesses.He will infect you with all the diseases of Egypt that you dreaded, and they will persistently afflict you.Moreover, the LORD will bring upon you every kind of sickness and plague not mentioned in this scroll of commandments, until you have perished.There will be very few of you left, though at one time you were as numerous as the stars in the sky, because you will have disobeyed the LORD your God.This is what will happen: Just as the LORD delighted to do good for you and make you numerous, he will take delight in destroying and decimating you. You will be uprooted from the land you are about to possess.The LORD will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, gods of wood and stone.Among those nations you will have no rest nor will there be a place of peaceful rest for the soles of your feet, for there the LORD will give you an anxious heart, failing eyesight, and a spirit of despair.Your life will hang in doubt before you; you will be terrified by night and day and will have no certainty of surviving from one day to the next.In the morning you will say,‘ If only it were evening!’ And in the evening you will say,‘ I wish it were morning!’ because of the things you will fear and the things you will see.Then the LORD will make you return to Egypt by ship, over a route I said to you that you would never see again. There you will sell yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you.”

and then have committed apostasy, to renew them again to repentance, since they are crucifying the Son of God for themselves all over again and holding him up to contempt.For the ground that has soaked up the rain that frequently falls on it and yields useful vegetation for those who tend it receives a blessing from God.But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is useless and about to be cursed; its fate is to be burned.

For it will overtake all who live on the face of the whole earth.

“ All Israel has broken your law and turned away by not obeying you. Therefore you have poured out on us the judgment solemnly threatened in the law of Moses the servant of God, for we have sinned against you.

“ Woe to you, blind guides, who say,‘ Whoever swears by the temple is bound by nothing. But whoever swears by the gold of the temple is bound by the oath.’Blind fools! Which is greater, the gold or the temple that makes the gold sacred?And,‘ Whoever swears by the altar is bound by nothing. But if anyone swears by the gift on it he is bound by the oath.’You are blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and the one who dwells in it.And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and the one who sits on it.

Whoever shares with a thief is his own enemy; he hears the oath to testify, but does not talk.

The one who steals must steal no longer; rather he must labor, doing good with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with the one who has need.

He loved to curse others, so those curses have come upon him. He had no desire to bless anyone, so he has experienced no blessings.He made cursing a way of life, so curses poured into his stomach like water and seeped into his bones like oil.May a curse attach itself to him, like a garment one puts on, or a belt one wears continually!May the LORD repay my accusers in this way, those who say evil things about me!

And above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath. But let your“ Yes” be yes and your“ No” be no, so that you may not fall into judgment.

For the land is full of people unfaithful to him. They live wicked lives and they misuse their power. So the land is dried up because it is under his curse. The pastures in the wilderness are withered.

“ Again, you have heard that it was said to an older generation,‘ Do not break an oath, but fulfill your vows to the Lord.’But I say to you, do not take oaths at all– not by heaven, because it is the throne of God,not by earth, because it is his footstool, and not by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great King.Do not take an oath by your head, because you are not able to make one hair white or black.Let your word be‘ Yes, yes’ or‘ No, no.’ More than this is from the evil one.

When such a person hears the words of this oath he secretly blesses himself and says,“ I will have peace though I continue to walk with a stubborn spirit.” This will destroy the watered ground with the parched.The LORD will be unwilling to forgive him, and his intense anger will rage against that man; all the curses written in this scroll will fall upon him and the LORD will obliterate his name from memory.The LORD will single him out for judgment from all the tribes of Israel according to all the curses of the covenant written in this scroll of the law.The generation to come– your descendants who will rise up after you, as well as the foreigner who will come from distant places– will see the afflictions of that land and the illnesses that the LORD has brought on it.The whole land will be covered with brimstone, salt, and burning debris; it will not be planted nor will it sprout or produce grass. It will resemble the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD destroyed in his intense anger.Then all the nations will ask,“ Why has the LORD done all this to this land? What is this fierce, heated display of anger all about?”Then people will say,“ Because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their ancestors, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.They went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods they did not know and that he did not permit them to worship.That is why the LORD’s anger erupted against this land, bringing on it all the curses written in this scroll.So the LORD has uprooted them from their land in anger, wrath, and great rage and has deported them to another land, as is clear today.”
