    I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals.And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice,“ Who is worthy to open the scroll and to break its seals?”And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it.Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it.And one of the elders* said to me,“ Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to be able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”And I saw between the throne( with the four living creatures) and the elders a Lamb standing, as if slaughtered, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.And He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.When He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.And they* sang a new song, saying,“ Worthy are You to take the scroll and to break its seals; for You were slaughtered, and You purchased people for God with Your blood from every tribe, language, people, and nation.You have made them into a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign upon the earth.”Then I looked, and I heard the voices of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands,saying with a loud voice,“ Worthy is the Lamb that was slaughtered to receive power, wealth, wisdom, might, honor, glory, and blessing.”And I heard every created thing which is in heaven, or on the earth, or under the earth, or on the sea, and all the things in them, saying,“ To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be the blessing, the honor, the glory, and the dominion forever and ever.”And the four living creatures were saying,“ Amen.” And the elders fell down and worshiped.

And you shall also read them to all the people of Judah who come from their cities.

    So they came to the king in the courtyard, but they had deposited the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and they reported all the words to the king.Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it to the king as well as to all the officials who were standing beside the king.Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month, with a fire burning in the brazier before him.And when Jehudi had read three or four columns, the king cut it with a scribe’s knife and threw it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all of the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.Yet the king and all his servants who heard all these words did not tremble in fear, nor did they tear their garments.

    Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah after the king had burned the scroll and the words which Baruch had written at the dictation of Jeremiah, saying,“ Take again another scroll and write on it all the previous words that were on the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah burned.And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ You have burned this scroll, saying,‘ Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will make mankind and animals disappear from it?’ ”Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah:“ He shall have no one to sit on the throne of David, and his dead body shall be thrown out to the heat of the day and the frost of the night.I will also punish him, his descendants, and his servants for their wrongdoing, and I will bring on them and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the people of Judah all the disaster that I have declared to them— but they did not listen.” ’ ”Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to the scribe Baruch the son of Neriah, and he wrote on it at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and many similar words were added to them.
