The angel of the Lord gave this charge to Joshua:

Then the angel spoke to Joshua. He said,

And the angel of the Lord solemnly assured Joshua,

Yahweh’s angel protested to Joshua, saying,

“ This Moses, whom they rejected when they said, Who appointed you a ruler and a judge?— this one God sent as a ruler and a deliverer through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.This man led them out and performed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, at the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.“ This is the Moses who said to the Israelites: God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.He is the one who was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors. He received living oracles to give to us.

Then he showed me the high priest Joshua standing before the angel of the LORD, with Satan standing at his right side to accuse him.

Jacob struggled with the angel and prevailed; he wept and sought his favor. He found him at Bethel, and there he spoke with him.

“ I am going to send an angel before you to protect you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared.Be attentive to him and listen to him. Do not defy him, because he will not forgive your acts of rebellion, for my name is in him.

Then he blessed Joseph and said: The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,the angel who has redeemed me from all harm— may he bless these boys. And may they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they grow to be numerous within the land.

Then the angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heavenand said,“ By myself I have sworn,” this is the LORD’s declaration:“ Because you have done this thing and have not withheld your only son,

For I strongly warned your ancestors when I brought them out of the land of Egypt until today, warning them time and time again,‘ Obey me.’

In all their suffering, he suffered, and the angel of his presence saved them. He redeemed them because of his love and compassion; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of the past.

The LORD was standing there beside him, saying,“ I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your offspring the land on which you are lying.Your offspring will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out toward the west, the east, the north, and the south. All the peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.Look, I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. I will bring you back to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he said,“ Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.”He was afraid and said,“ What an awesome place this is! This is none other than the house of God. This is the gate of heaven.”
