The LORD also will deliver the homes of Judah first, so that the splendor of the kingship of David and of the people of Jerusalem may not exceed that of Judah.

“ The Lord will save the dwellings of Judah first, so that the honor of the house of David and of Jerusalem’s inhabitants may not be greater than that of Judah.

“ I will save the houses in Judah first. The honor of David’s family line is great. So is the honor of those who live in Jerusalem. But their honor will not be greater than the honor of the rest of Judah.

“ And the Lord will give salvation to the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem may not surpass that of Judah.

“ The Lord will give victory to the rest of Judah first, before Jerusalem, so that the people of Jerusalem and the royal line of David will not have greater honor than the rest of Judah.

The LORD will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of David’s house and the glory of Jerusalem’s residents may not be greater than that of Judah.

The Lord also will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will not be greater than Judah.

Proud men will be brought low, arrogant men will be humiliated; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.Indeed, the LORD who commands armies has planned a day of judgment, for all the high and mighty, for all who are proud– they will be humiliated;for all the cedars of Lebanon, that are so high and mighty, for all the oaks of Bashan;for all the tall mountains, for all the high hills,for every high tower, for every fortified wall,for all the large ships, for all the impressive ships.Proud men will be humiliated, arrogant men will be brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.

“ In that day I will rebuild the collapsing hut of David. I will seal its gaps, repair its ruins, and restore it to what it was like in days gone by.

I have prayed for deliverance, because otherwise they will gloat over me; when my foot slips they will arrogantly taunt me.

If indeed you would exalt yourselves above me and plead my disgrace against me,

Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded! By what principle? Of works? No, but by the principle of faith!

At that time Jesus said,“ I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed them to little children.Yes, Father, for this was your gracious will.

So it was annulled that very day, and then the most afflicted of the flock who kept faith with me knew that that was the word of the LORD.

May those who want to harm me be totally embarrassed and ashamed! May those who arrogantly taunt me be covered with shame and humiliation!

But he gives greater grace. Therefore it says,“ God opposes the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.”

But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that the extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us.We are experiencing trouble on every side, but are not crushed; we are perplexed, but not driven to despair;we are persecuted, but not abandoned; we are knocked down, but not destroyed,always carrying around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our body.For we who are alive are constantly being handed over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our mortal body.As a result, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.

Then the Pharisees answered,“ You haven’t been deceived too, have you?None of the rulers or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they?But this rabble who do not know the law are accursed!”

Think about the circumstances of your call, brothers and sisters. Not many were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were born to a privileged position.But God chose what the world thinks foolish to shame the wise, and God chose what the world thinks weak to shame the strong.God chose what is low and despised in the world, what is regarded as nothing, to set aside what is regarded as something,so that no one can boast in his presence.He is the reason you have a relationship with Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption,so that, as it is written,“ Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

The LORD who commands armies planned it– to dishonor the pride that comes from all her beauty, to humiliate all the dignitaries of the earth.

Indeed, it is not an enemy who insults me, or else I could bear it; it is not one who hates me who arrogantly taunts me, or else I could hide from him.

He has demonstrated power with his arm; he has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position;he has filled the hungry with good things, and has sent the rich away empty.

The LORD says,“ Wise people should not boast that they are wise. Powerful people should not boast that they are powerful. Rich people should not boast that they are rich.If people want to boast, they should boast about this: They should boast that they understand and know me. They should boast that they know and understand that I, the LORD, act out of faithfulness, fairness, and justice in the earth and that I desire people to do these things,” says the LORD.

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters! Did not God choose the poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?

Therefore he told me,“ These signify the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel:‘ Not by strength and not by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD who rules over all.”

On that same occasion Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said,“ I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your gracious will.
