“ Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!” declares the Lord.

So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that“ An idol is nothing at all in the world” and that“ There is no God but one.”

This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!

Who is blind but my servant, and deaf like the messenger I send? Who is blind like the one in covenant with me, blind like the servant of the Lord?You have seen many things, but you pay no attention; your ears are open, but you do not listen.”

“ A sword against the Babylonians!” declares the Lord—“ against those who live in Babylon and against her officials and wise men!A sword against her false prophets! They will become fools. A sword against her warriors! They will be filled with terror.A sword against her horses and chariots and all the foreigners in her ranks! They will become weaklings. A sword against her treasures! They will be plundered.

Do I mean then that food sacrificed to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything?No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons.

“ In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord,“ I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight.I will turn your religious festivals into mourning and all your singing into weeping. I will make all of you wear sackcloth and shave your heads. I will make that time like mourning for an only son and the end of it like a bitter day.

“ Woe to you, blind guides! You say,‘ If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gold of the temple is bound by that oath.’

He said,“ Go and tell this people:“‘ Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”

“ Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy and say to them:‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to you shepherds of Israel who only take care of yourselves! Should not shepherds take care of the flock?

Indeed, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,” declares the Lord.“ They tell them and lead my people astray with their reckless lies, yet I did not send or appoint them. They do not benefit these people in the least,” declares the Lord.

“ Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. It has not been bound up to be healed or put in a splint so that it may become strong enough to hold a sword.Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will break both his arms, the good arm as well as the broken one, and make the sword fall from his hand.I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries.I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before him like a mortally wounded man.

Therefore night will come over you, without visions, and darkness, without divination. The sun will set for the prophets, and the day will go dark for them.The seers will be ashamed and the diviners disgraced. They will all cover their faces because there is no answer from God.”

the elders and dignitaries are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail.

When King Jeroboam heard what the man of God cried out against the altar at Bethel, he stretched out his hand from the altar and said,“ Seize him!” But the hand he stretched out toward the man shriveled up, so that he could not pull it back.

What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain. The elect among them did, but the others were hardened,

“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn— and I would heal them.”

Jesus said,“ For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”

You stumble day and night, and the prophets stumble with you. So I will destroy your mother—my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.“ Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.The more priests there were, the more they sinned against me; they exchanged their glorious God for something disgraceful.

The Lord has brought over you a deep sleep: He has sealed your eyes( the prophets); he has covered your heads( the seers).

This is what the Lord says:“ Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and proclaim this message there:

“ Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone.“ Woe to you Pharisees, because you love the most important seats in the synagogues and respectful greetings in the marketplaces.“ Woe to you, because you are like unmarked graves, which people walk over without knowing it.”One of the experts in the law answered him,“ Teacher, when you say these things, you insult us also.”Jesus replied,“ And you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them.“ Woe to you, because you build tombs for the prophets, and it was your ancestors who killed them.So you testify that you approve of what your ancestors did; they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs.Because of this, God in his wisdom said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’Therefore this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world,from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all.“ Woe to you experts in the law, because you have taken away the key to knowledge. You yourselves have not entered, and you have hindered those who were entering.”

Who shapes a god and casts an idol, which can profit nothing?
