“ Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture!” declares the Lord.

Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that“ an idol has no real existence,” and that“ there is no God but one.”

Thus says the Lord God, Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!

Who is blind but my servant, or deaf as my messenger whom I send? Who is blind as my dedicated one, or blind as the servant of the Lord?He sees many things, but does not observe them; his ears are open, but he does not hear.

“ A sword against the Chaldeans, declares the Lord, and against the inhabitants of Babylon, and against her officials and her wise men!A sword against the diviners, that they may become fools! A sword against her warriors, that they may be destroyed!A sword against her horses and against her chariots, and against all the foreign troops in her midst, that they may become women! A sword against all her treasures, that they may be plundered!

What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons.

“ And on that day,” declares the Lord God,“ I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight.I will turn your feasts into mourning and all your songs into lamentation; I will bring sackcloth on every waist and baldness on every head; I will make it like the mourning for an only son and the end of it like a bitter day.

“ Woe to you, blind guides, who say,‘ If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’

And he said,“ Go, and say to this people:“‘ Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”

“ Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: Ah, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves! Should not shepherds feed the sheep?

Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, declares the Lord, and who tell them and lead my people astray by their lies and their recklessness, when I did not send them or charge them. So they do not profit this people at all, declares the Lord.

“ Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and behold, it has not been bound up, to heal it by binding it with a bandage, so that it may become strong to wield the sword.Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt and will break his arms, both the strong arm and the one that was broken, and I will make the sword fall from his hand.I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them through the countries.And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before him like a man mortally wounded.

Therefore it shall be night to you, without vision, and darkness to you, without divination. The sun shall go down on the prophets, and the day shall be black over them;the seers shall be disgraced, and the diviners put to shame; they shall all cover their lips, for there is no answer from God.

the elder and honored man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail;

And when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar at Bethel, Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying,“ Seize him.” And his hand, which he stretched out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back to himself.

What then? Israel failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest were hardened,

“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.”

Jesus said,“ For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.”

You shall stumble by day; the prophet also shall stumble with you by night; and I will destroy your mother.My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.The more they increased, the more they sinned against me; I will change their glory into shame.

For the Lord has poured out upon you a spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes( the prophets), and covered your heads( the seers).

Thus says the Lord:“ Go down to the house of the king of Judah and speak there this word,

“ But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.Woe to you! For you are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without knowing it.”One of the lawyers answered him,“ Teacher, in saying these things you insult us also.”And he said,“ Woe to you lawyers also! For you load people with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed.So you are witnesses and you consent to the deeds of your fathers, for they killed them, and you build their tombs.Therefore also the Wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’so that the blood of all the prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation,from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering.”

Who fashions a god or casts an idol that is profitable for nothing?

He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

Behold, the days are coming when I will cut off your strength and the strength of your father’s house, so that there will not be an old man in your house.

“ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.
