Then I took my staff called Favor and broke it, revoking the covenant I had made with all the nations.

Then I got my staff called Favor. I broke it. That meant the covenant the Lord had made with all the nations was broken.

And I took my staff Favor, and I broke it, annulling the covenant that I had made with all the peoples.

Next I took my staff called Favor and cut it in two, annulling the covenant I had made with all the peoples.

And I took my staff Favor and cut it in pieces, to break my covenant which I had made with all the peoples.

And I took my staff, Beauty, and cut it in two, that I might break the covenant which I had made with all the peoples.

And I took my staff Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the peoples.

Next I took my staff called Favor and cut it in two, annulling the covenant I had made with all the peoples.

And I took my staff,[ even] Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people.

Then I took my staff“ Pleasantness” and cut it in two to annul my covenant that I had made with all the people.

So I cared for the flock intended for slaughter— the flock that was oppressed. Then I took two shepherd’s staffs and named one Favor and the other Union.

You have renounced your covenant with him; you have thrown his crown in the dust.

For the sake of your reputation, Lord, do not abandon us. Do not disgrace your own glorious throne. Please remember us, and do not break your covenant with us.

“ The day is coming,” says the Lord,“ when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah.This covenant will not be like the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and brought them out of the land of Egypt. They broke that covenant, though I loved them as a husband loves his wife,” says the Lord.

But when God found fault with the people, he said:“ The day is coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah.This covenant will not be like the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and led them out of the land of Egypt. They did not remain faithful to my covenant, so I turned my back on them, says the Lord.But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.And they will not need to teach their neighbors, nor will they need to teach their relatives, saying,‘ You should know the Lord.’ For everyone, from the least to the greatest, will know me already.And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.”When God speaks of a“ new” covenant, it means he has made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date and will soon disappear.

From Mount Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines in glorious radiance.

“ After this period of sixty two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end.

I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these things have taken place.

And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!

And the psalmist pointed this out when he prophesied,“ You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”Yes, the old requirement about the priesthood was set aside because it was weak and useless.For the law never made anything perfect. But now we have confidence in a better hope, through which we draw near to God.This new system was established with a solemn oath. Aaron’s descendants became priests without such an oath,but there was an oath regarding Jesus. For God said to him,“ The Lord has taken an oath and will not break his vow:‘ You are a priest forever.’”Because of this oath, Jesus is the one who guarantees this better covenant with God.

Some of his disciples began talking about the majestic stonework of the Temple and the memorial decorations on the walls. But Jesus said,“ The time is coming when all these things will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!”

“ Now this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will give you what you deserve, for you have taken your solemn vows lightly by breaking your covenant.Yet I will remember the covenant I made with you when you were young, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you.Then you will remember with shame all the evil you have done. I will make your sisters, Samaria and Sodom, to be your daughters, even though they are not part of our covenant.

and I was told to give this message to the people of Israel. This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will defile my Temple, the source of your security and pride, the place your heart delights in. Your sons and daughters whom you left behind in Judah will be slaughtered by the sword.

The lying witnesses said,“ This man is always speaking against the holy Temple and against the law of Moses.We have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy the Temple and change the customs Moses handed down to us.”

for my people, my Jewish brothers and sisters. I would be willing to be forever cursed— cut off from Christ!— if that would save them.They are the people of Israel, chosen to be God’s adopted children. God revealed his glory to them. He made covenants with them and gave them his law. He gave them the privilege of worshiping him and receiving his wonderful promises.Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are their ancestors, and Christ himself was an Israelite as far as his human nature is concerned. And he is God, the one who rules over everything and is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.

They were proud of their beautiful jewelry and used it to make detestable idols and vile images. Therefore, I will make all their wealth disgusting to them.I will give it as plunder to foreigners, to the most wicked of nations, and they will defile it.I will turn my eyes from them as these robbers invade and defile my treasured land.

“‘ Because your men explored the land for forty days, you must wander in the wilderness for forty years— a year for each day, suffering the consequences of your sins. Then you will discover what it is like to have me for an enemy.’

God gave the promises to Abraham and his child. And notice that the Scripture doesn’t say“ to his children,” as if it meant many descendants. Rather, it says“ to his child”— and that, of course, means Christ.This is what I am trying to say: The agreement God made with Abraham could not be canceled 430 years later when God gave the law to Moses. God would be breaking his promise.For if the inheritance could be received by keeping the law, then it would not be the result of accepting God’s promise. But God graciously gave it to Abraham as a promise.

“ Therefore, the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I promised that your branch of the tribe of Levi would always be my priests. But I will honor those who honor me, and I will despise those who think lightly of me.

And the Lord said,“ Name him Lo ammi—‘ Not my people’— for Israel is not my people, and I am not their God.
