Though I scatter them among the peoples, yet in distant lands they will remember me. They and their children will survive, and they will return.

if they take it to heart in the land where they have been taken captive, and repent and implore Your favor in the land of those who have taken them captive, saying,‘ We have sinned and done wrong, we have acted wickedly’;if they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who have taken them captive, and pray to You toward their land which You have given to their fathers, the city which You have chosen, and the house which I have built for Your name;

I will sow her for Myself in the land. I will also have compassion on her who had not obtained compassion, And I will say to those who were not My people,‘ You are My people!’ And they will say,‘ You are my God!’ ”

“ Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord,“ when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of mankind and the seed of animals.

In each and every province and in each and every city, wherever the king’s commandment and his decree arrived, there was joy and jubilation for the Jews, a feast and a holiday. And many among the peoples of the land became Jews, because the dread of the Jews had fallen on them.

Therefore, those who had been scattered went through places preaching the word.

“ For behold, I am commanding, And I will shake the house of Israel among all nations As grain is shaken in a sieve, But not a pebble will fall to the ground.

Nebuchadnezzar the king made a statue of gold, the height of which was sixty cubits, and its width six cubits; he set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon.Nebuchadnezzar the king also sent word to assemble the satraps, the prefects and the governors, the counselors, the chief treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the administrators of the provinces to come to the dedication of the statue that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.Then the satraps, the prefects and the governors, the counselors, the chief treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the administrators of the provinces were assembled for the dedication of the statue that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the statue that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.Then the herald loudly proclaimed:“ To you the command is given, you peoples, nations, and populations of all languages,that at the moment you hear the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery, bagpipe, and all kinds of musical instruments, you are to fall down and worship the golden statue that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up.But whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be thrown into the middle of a furnace of blazing fire.”

“ So it will be when all of these things have come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have placed before you, and you call them to mind in all the nations where the Lord your God has scattered you,and you return to the Lord your God and obey Him with all your heart and soul in accordance with everything that I am commanding you today, you and your sons,then the Lord your God will restore you from captivity, and have compassion on you, and will gather you again from all the peoples where the Lord your God has scattered you.If any of your scattered countrymen are at the ends of the earth, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there He will bring you back.

So then those who were scattered because of the persecution that occurred in connection with Stephen made their way to Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews alone.But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks as well, preaching the good news of the Lord Jesus.And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord.

Peter said to them,“ Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”

Then the remnant of Jacob Will be among many peoples Like dew from the Lord, Like showers on vegetation That do not wait for man, Or delay for mankind.

but if you return to Me and keep My commandments and do them, though those of you who have been scattered were in the most remote part of the heavens, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place where I have chosen to have My name dwell.’

For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?

Now there were prophets and teachers at Antioch, in the church that was there: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.While they were serving the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,“ Set Barnabas and Saul apart for Me for the work to which I have called them.”Then, when they had fasted, prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus.When they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; and they also had John as their helper.When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a magician, a Jewish false prophet whose name was Bar Jesus,who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.But Elymas the magician( for so his name is translated) was opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.But Saul, who was also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, stared at him,and said,“ You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not stop making crooked the straight ways of the Lord?Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time.” And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking those who would lead him by the hand.Then the proconsul believed when he saw what had happened, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord.Now Paul and his companions put out to sea from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia; but John left them and returned to Jerusalem.But going on from Perga, they arrived at Pisidian Antioch, and on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue officials sent word to them, saying,“ Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say it.”Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said,“ Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen:The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm He led them out from it.For a period of about forty years He put up with them in the wilderness.When He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He distributed their land as an inheritance— all of which took about 450 years.After these things He gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said,‘ I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will.’From the descendants of this man, according to promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus,after John had proclaimed, before His coming, a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.And while John was completing his course, he kept saying,‘ What do you suppose that I am? I am not He. But behold, one is coming after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’“ Brothers, sons of Abraham’s family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of this salvation has been sent.For those who live in Jerusalem, and their rulers, recognizing neither Him nor the declarations of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning Him.And though they found no grounds for putting Him to death, they asked Pilate that He be executed.When they had carried out everything that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the cross and laid Him in a tomb.But God raised Him from the dead;and for many days He appeared to those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, the very ones who are now His witnesses to the people.And we preach to you the good news of the promise made to the fathers,that God has fulfilled this promise to those of us who are the descendants by raising Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm:‘ You are My Son; today I have fathered You.’As for the fact that He raised Him from the dead, never again to return to decay, He has spoken in this way:‘ I will give you the holy and faithful mercies of David.’Therefore, He also says in another Psalm:‘ You will not allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.’For David, after he had served God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep, and was buried among his fathers and underwent decay;but He whom God raised did not undergo decay.Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,

I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? Far from it! But by their wrongdoing salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous.Now if their wrongdoing proves to be riches for the world, and their failure, riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be!But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Therefore insofar as I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministryif somehow I may move my own people to jealousy and save some of them.For if their rejection proves to be the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?If the first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are as well.But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree,

In Iconium they entered the synagogue of the Jews together, and spoke in such a way that a large number of people believed, both of Jews and of Greeks.But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the minds of the Gentiles and embittered them against the brothers.Therefore they spent a long time there speaking boldly with reliance upon the Lord, who was testifying to the word of His grace, granting that signs and wonders be performed by their hands.But the people of the city were divided; and some sided with the Jews, while others, with the apostles.And when an attempt was made by both the Gentiles and the Jews with their rulers, to treat them abusively and to stone them,they became aware of it and fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the surrounding region;and there they continued to preach the gospel.In Lystra a man was sitting whose feet were incapacitated. He had been disabled from his mother’s womb, and had never walked.This man was listening to Paul as he spoke. Paul looked at him intently and saw that he had faith to be made well,and he said with a loud voice,“ Stand upright on your feet!” And the man leaped up and began to walk.When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voice, saying in the Lycaonian language,“ The gods have become like men and have come down to us!”And they began calling Barnabas, Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, since he was the chief speaker.Moreover, the priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds.But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard about it, they tore their robes and rushed out into the crowd, crying outand saying,“ Men, why are you doing these things? We are also men, of the same nature as you, preaching the gospel to you, to turn from these useless things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything that is in them.In past generations He permitted all the nations to go their own ways;yet He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good and gave you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.”And even by saying these things, only with difficulty did they restrain the crowds from offering sacrifices to them.But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having won over the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, thinking that he was dead.But while the disciples stood around him, he got up and entered the city. The next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe.And after they had preached the gospel to that city and had made a good number of disciples, they returned to Lystra, to Iconium, and to Antioch,

I will bring forth offspring from Jacob, And an heir of My mountains from Judah; My chosen ones shall inherit it, And My servants will live there.

You who have escaped the sword, Go! Do not stay! Remember the Lord from far away, And let Jerusalem come to your mind.

It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God ordained with your fathers, saying to Abraham,‘ And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’God raised up His Servant for you first, and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.”

They will not labor in vain, Or give birth to children for disaster; For they are the descendants of those blessed by the Lord, And their descendants with them.

Now Saul approved of putting Stephen to death. And on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.
