Where are your ancestors now? And the prophets, do they live forever?

and they are afraid of heights and the dangers in the street; the almond blossoms grow white, and the grasshopper drags itself along, and the caper berry shrivels up– because man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about in the streets–

and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the life’s breath returns to God who gave it.

But man dies and is powerless; he expires– and where is he?As water disappears from the sea, or a river drains away and dries up,so man lies down and does not rise; until the heavens are no more, they will not awake nor arise from their sleep.

For David, after he had served God’s purpose in his own generation, died, was buried with his ancestors, and experienced decay,

Then the Judeans responded,“ Now we know you’re possessed by a demon! Both Abraham and the prophets died, and yet you say,‘ If anyone obeys my teaching, he will never experience death.’

The days of our lives add up to seventy years, or eighty, if one is especially strong. But even one’s best years are marred by trouble and oppression. Yes, they pass quickly and we fly away.

And the others who became priests were numerous, because death prevented them from continuing in office,but he holds his priesthood permanently since he lives forever.

So I reflected on all this, attempting to clear it all up. I concluded that the righteous and the wise, as well as their works, are in the hand of God; whether a person will be loved or hated– no one knows what lies ahead.Everyone shares the same fate– the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the ceremonially clean and unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. What happens to the good person, also happens to the sinner; what happens to those who make vows, also happens to those who are afraid to make vows.This is the unfortunate fact about everything that happens on earth: the same fate awaits everyone. In addition to this, the hearts of all people are full of evil, and there is folly in their hearts during their lives– then they die.

And just as people are appointed to die once, and then to face judgment,

A generation comes and a generation goes, but the earth remains the same through the ages.

I want you to recall both the predictions foretold by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles.Above all, understand this: In the last days blatant scoffers will come, being propelled by their own evil urgesand saying,“ Where is his promised return? For ever since our ancestors died, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation.”
