Then they will know that I am Yahweh, when I lay my vengeance on them.”’”

In overflowing wrath I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting loving kindness I will have mercy on you,” says Yahweh your Redeemer.

For the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame will cover you, and you will be cut off forever.In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that strangers carried away his substance, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots for Jerusalem, even you were like one of them.But don’t look down on your brother in the day of his disaster, and don’t rejoice over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction. Yahweh says:“ For three transgressions of Damascus, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron;but I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, and it will devour the palaces of Ben Hadad.I will break the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the valley of Aven, and him who holds the scepter from the house of Eden; and the people of Syria shall go into captivity to Kir,” says Yahweh.Yahweh says:“ For three transgressions of Gaza, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they carried away captive the whole community, to deliver them up to Edom;but I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, and it will devour its palaces.I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon; and I will turn my hand against Ekron; and the remnant of the Philistines will perish,” says the Lord Yahweh.Yahweh says:“ For three transgressions of Tyre, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they delivered up the whole community to Edom, and didn’t remember the brotherly covenant;but I will send a fire on the wall of Tyre, and it will devour its palaces.”Yahweh says:“ For three transgressions of Edom, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because he pursued his brother with the sword, and cast off all pity, and his anger raged continually, and he kept his wrath forever;but I will send a fire on Teman, and it will devour the palaces of Bozrah.”Yahweh says:“ For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they have ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead, that they may enlarge their border.

Tell the children of Ammon,‘ Hear the word of the Lord Yahweh! The Lord Yahweh says,“ Because you said,‘ Aha!’ against my sanctuary, when it was profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was made desolate; and against the house of Judah, when they went into captivity:therefore, behold, I will deliver you to the children of the east for a possession. They will set their encampments in you, and make their dwellings in you. They will eat your fruit and they will drink your milk.I will make Rabbah a stable for camels, and the children of Ammon a resting place for flocks. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.”For the Lord Yahweh says:“ Because you have clapped your hands, stamped with the feet, and rejoiced with all the contempt of your soul against the land of Israel;therefore, behold, I have stretched out my hand on you, and will deliver you for a plunder to the nations. I will cut you off from the peoples, and I will cause you to perish out of the countries. I will destroy you. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.”“‘ The Lord Yahweh says:“ Because Moab and Seir say,‘ Behold, the house of Judah is like all the nations;’therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from his cities which are on his frontiers, the glory of the country, Beth Jeshimoth, Baal Meon, and Kiriathaim,

for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives.”It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline?

“ Son of man, because Tyre has said against Jerusalem,‘ Aha! She is broken! She who was the gateway of the peoples has been returned to me. I will be replenished, now that she is laid waste;’

“ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me. He has crushed me. He has made me an empty vessel. He has, like a monster, swallowed me up. He has filled his mouth with my delicacies. He has cast me out.May the violence done to me and to my flesh be on Babylon!” the inhabitant of Zion will say; and,“ May my blood be on the inhabitants of Chaldea!” will Jerusalem say.

For, behold, your enemies are stirred up. Those who hate you have lifted up their heads.They conspire with cunning against your people. They plot against your cherished ones.“ Come,” they say,“ let’s destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”For they have conspired together with one mind. They form an alliance against you.

“‘“ All the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am Yahweh, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.When they took hold of you by your hand, you broke, and tore all their shoulders. When they leaned on you, you broke, and paralyzed all of their thighs.”

Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come!

Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.

However much she glorified herself, and grew wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning. For she says in her heart,‘ I sit a queen, and am no widow, and will in no way see mourning.’Therefore in one day her plagues will come: death, mourning, and famine; and she will be utterly burned with fire; for the Lord God who has judged her is strong.

therefore, you mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord Yahweh: The Lord Yahweh says to the mountains and to the hills, to the watercourses and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes and to the cities that are forsaken, which have become a prey and derision to the residue of the nations that are all around;therefore the Lord Yahweh says:“ Surely in the fire of my jealousy I have spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed my land to themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with despite of soul, to cast it out for a prey.”’

Remember, Yahweh, against the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem, who said,“ Raze it! Raze it even to its foundation!”
