he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

He saved us. It wasn’t because of the good things we had done. It was because of his mercy. He saved us by washing away our sins. We were born again. The Holy Spirit gave us new life.

Who hath saved us, and called[ us] with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

The like figure whereunto[ even] baptism doth also now save us( not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Blessed[ be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what[ is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of[ his] mercy;

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and[ of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,

But thou, O Lord,[ art] a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.

How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean[ that is] born of a woman?

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.And this I say,[ that] the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.For if the inheritance[ be] of the law,[ it is] no more of promise: but God gave[ it] to Abraham by promise.Wherefore then[ serveth] the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made;[ and it was] ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.Now a mediator is not[ a mediator] of one, but God is one.[ Is] the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law[ is] the knowledge of sin.

And if by grace, then[ is it] no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if[ it be] of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

( For[ the children] being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

Who[ is] a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth[ in] mercy.

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

To perform the mercy[ promised] to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;

And his mercy[ is] on them that fear him from generation to generation.

And have put on the new[ man], which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Which in time past[ were] not a people, but[ are] now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee.

What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.

So then[ it is] not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put[ him] to an open shame.

Also unto thee, O Lord,[ belongeth] mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

For thou, Lord,[ art] good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD[ there is] mercy, and with him[ is] plenteous redemption.

What[ is] man, that he should be clean? and[ he which is] born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me:[ if I say], I[ am] perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.
