he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy,

Jesus answered him,“ Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”Nicodemus said to him,“ How can a man be born when he is old? For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.

Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say,“ And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one,“ And to your offspring,” who is Christ.This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void.For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place through angels by an intermediary.Now an intermediary implies more than one, but God is one.Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law.

and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,

For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad— in order that God’s purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of him who calls—

Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love.

yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.

to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,

to show the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant,

And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.

and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.

And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,

Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

I will declare your righteousness and your deeds, but they will not profit you.

What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith;

So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared,

and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work.

And he answered,“ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”And he said to him,“ You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus,“ And who is my neighbor?”

For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.

O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption.

What is man, that he can be pure? Or he who is born of a woman, that he can be righteous?

Though I am in the right, my own mouth would condemn me; though I am blameless, he would prove me perverse.
